I am coming to the Ohio/Pennsylvania Lake shore area in May and would like to know if anybody is interested in getting together in that area. I could probably travel as far east as Buffalo or west to Cleveland. I have ordered the Monticello Cab and the Expression Pinot Noir and will happily share. I have also worked at a winery in NE PA and may stop there to see if there is anything interesting to bring. I am pretty much harmless as long as we don't talk about politics. Last time I was in the US my wife and I met the lovely Bahwm and D'dog and they could maybe vouch for me as I didn't break anything or get sick in their lovely house. [I owe you guys a bottle or two ] So I have that wine.woot cred going for me although I won't have my wife with me this time so I might lose a point or two. The best times for me would be 17 or 18 May or 24 May. I would be willing to meet in a BYOB restaurant or someones home with access to a reasonably priced hotel nearby. I might even be willing to consider a meet in each direction but I am limited to those weekend dates dates unless a mid-week meeting is ok, then I am pretty much open. If anybody is interested please chime in.

I have been thinking more about the potential gathering. Another possibility is to meet in Erie, PA, my hometown, about halfway between Cleveland and Buffalo. Possibly in a suite type hotel, that way travelers could crash after imbibing. There is a casino in Erie as well as Presque Isle State Park, which has several miles of sandy beaches on Lake Erie (one never knows what the weather will be like in May however) as well as several wineries to the east of the city. Much to see and do there.

On a personal note, I am thinking of this event as a "pay it forward" kind of thing. I have posted about my good fortune to have an incredibly generous friend with a magnificent cellar and I have enjoyed wines I had only dreamed of drinking because of him. Ulli has never asked for anything in return nor does he expect anything, he loves to share. I certainly can't offer the fine old Bordeaux and Burgundy that my friend has but I am willing to provide wines from wine woot! as well as what I may find locally when I get in the area. If folks want to bring something to share, that is fine but my idea is to provide food and wine for a small group (4-10 people) with no expectations in return. To my friend, as well as myself, one of the biggest joys of drinking wine is doing it in the company of like minded individuals and the resulting camaraderie. The only thing I ask is we will raise a glass or two to Ulli during the event.

So those are my thoughts on the subject, any and all input and suggestions are welcome!

I might be available during the May 17/18 weekend but the 24th is the weekend of my Niece's wedding in St. Louis. I am in the Cleveland/Akron area but if you get a wider response from the PA/Buffalo area I would totally understand if you opt for a gathering there instead.

Erie, PA would not be too far for me to go but I would hesitate to travel much further than that even if only for the reason that I'm going to be out of town a week or two before and again the following week, it's just a bit much for me to fit all that into one month.

Bump, I will keep an eye on this. Buffalo would obviously be easier for me.

Pity I don't live in Cleveland any more. And I drove a lot between there and Rochester - I was very familiar with Erie, or at least with their thruway exits.

I started out on Burgundy but soon hit the harder stuff. Bob Dylan, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues

How on earth did I get 7 QPs?

Both ddeuddeg & I are tied up on the 18th at two separate events. The 24th might be a possibility. It would be great to see you again!

I would love to see you guys as well. The 24th is doable but would it be a problem to meet in the Erie area somewhere? I am leaving on the 26th and things will be getting a little tight with preparations and all. I could book a suite in one of the hotels in the area. Plus, if we meet there my daughter could probably attend.

Sorry for not responding sooner. I just let things get away. We could drive out to Erie area Friday, the 24th after work. We might consider staying overnight someplace, so as not to have to do that length of a drive.

Hi! I was thinking I could book a suite in one of the local hotels, that way no one has to worry about driving. For comestibles, there is a nice Italian deli/bakery in town and I think various Italian meats and cheeses, bread, etc. could be nice.

We just got back from a 10 day trip to sing in Spain and France. We also visited St. Tropez, wow, that was nice! The trip was a lot of fun but 2,200 miles and 65 hours on a bus wasn't as much fun. Much Rioja was consumed in Spain! In France our hosts provided us with local Provencal wine in a box, red and rose!

Ed, I am soooo sorry that this didn't work out. It's just as well that we didn't plan on traveling to Erie to meet you last night because I wouldn't have made it! I had to go to the doc yesterday morning. I was having some breathing issues--probably allergy related or else, I've developed some sort of virus. Who knows? But, I was not fit for the drive, although ddeuddeg would have taken care of that, nor for late night carousing! I fell asleep during the 11 o'clock news! Then, I slept until 10:30 this morning! Provided that I don't move too much, I'm fine!

I really wish that we were able to see you while you were "in town". Wanna meet up with us in Barcelona or Paris in July? Feel free to take this to PMs. I hope you had a nice visit with your family.
