Don't recall if I mentioned the saga of the fallen iPad. all of a ~16" descent, however halted by the corner of a bedside table. Result, total shatter of the glass face/digitizer. Got a replacement but the bottom 15% or so was non-responsive to touch. Replacement arrived along with another inside cable but both have been collecting dust while I finally carved out time to crack it open, again, today.

Quoted anywhere from $150/400 to repair/replace. Under $60 total in parts and a few hours, plus some additional time as the first one was defective.

Success!

Can't tell it ever had a problem or was opened. Not sure I'd do it again however, but nice to know what's inside and that's it's possible for a mere mortal.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Especially since you've seen me drink wine.

Yes, I have a drinking problem ... I just don't drink it fast enough.

Thanks! This was the 7 course dinner & wine pairing @ our house. The Feast is on Mar 23rd. We are accepting donations--looking for lodging in the Healdsburg area for a pkg I'm working on. Anybody have connections?

rjquillin wrote:Oil furnaces; I remember those. House came with coal, but we changed it out. No gauge on the tank, we tapped it to check level. Also no blower, just convection ducting. Lived in a converted attic in my later teens. No heat at all up there.
Water however was electric. You have oil heated water?
Simple fixes are good.

Yes, oil hot water. Heat is baseboard hot water radiators. So all about the hot water.

polarbear22 wrote:Pretty damn cold shower this morning. No hot water. Turns out no hear either. Tried to do some purging, since I thought it was an air lock. Didn't work. Called my oil company.

Half hour later, tech was here. Turns out that we were out of oil. If the gauge wasn't stuck, I would have known that, since it was the first thing I checked.

He called for an oil delivery. And within minutes, a truck was here. So they get an oops for letting me run dry on automatic delivery. But high marks for great service.

Most important, SWMBO got a nice hot shower.

Go ahead. It's all about what you are used to and expect. Fortunately, the heat stopped after the house was warmed up for the morning, as we keep it pretty low at night (about 60).

And you were planning an outside event.

Oh, and Happy Birthday.

Night three. Almost 12 hours slept and only 30 minutes total of crying. Very glad we did this.

Who needs sake? A 12 oz bottle of Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA, at 15-20% ABV is working pretty damn well.

A bottle of Grenache Rose to go with pork tenderloin for dinner.

Followed by the second half of a bottle of Banyuls later.

I doubt my fingers will be able to type. Hard enough after the beer.
