For those of you that didn't hear, we had couple little earthquakes here this weekend. I felt both. Felt kinda like a car hit the side of the house.

I'm sure those of you in CA will laugh at us and our reactions to our 3.4 shaker. But I want you to know, we are bouncing back quickly.

We went to a Ball last night. ddeuddeg & I were primed for some dancing. Doesn't everybody think of a Ball as dinner & dancing? Ya, no. Not at this Ball. Stupid Ball. Fancy dress and all, no dancing! I even brought two pairs of dancing shoes! Bah!

That's terrible! Sounds like the "proms" at the ultra-religious high schools where no dancing is allowed. Because dancing will lead to impure thoughts which descends directly into fornication!!!!

So between twisters & earthquakes, which one moves the earth for you?

BTW, I thought there was a problem with the graphic for the main Home! Woot! product. (You know, when you hover over the home! menu icon at the top and it shows you a small graphic.)

Tell them nice going, showing a white product on a white background.

I think it's the font and/or the spacing they are using. And I still have to look twice.

That, or it's a Monday.

So far, I've been blessed that the twisters have missed our area. The earthquake moved the earth for me. Was hoping for something more climatic though.

Amazon is going to start selling wine!

Will this affect WD/WW?

The way I read it, I don't think it will UNLESS the wineries start listing through Amazon at big discounts (which is unlikely since it would probably hurt their image). It looks like it will be similar to the WW/WCC model, in that Amazon is just the sales arena and sales are actually with the winery itself. It seems as if the winery can list whatever price they want, they just pay a commission on whatever is sold (I'm assuming this may be slightly different than the WW model).

Yes, they could could offer the same price on Amazon that they would here, and potentially have a higher profit margin, but offering discounts on such a mass scale can damage perceived value, so I think it is unlikely. I am also guessing that the wineries will be responsible for shipping, and thus the purchases would NOT be eligible for prime, and shipping prices will be high.

ddeuddeg so loved the baked fish atop potatoes and onions cooked in EVOO that he had to try his hand at it tonight. Success! He picked up a whole red snapper and did a great job of it. We even have the tail piece left over. It should heat up well in the oven.

The potatoes & onions are first sautéed in the EVOO until they soften a bit. Then, they are layered on the bottom of a baking pan with salt & pepper. Then, place the fish atop the potatoes & onions and pour some dry white wine over the top of the fish and bake it at 350 for about an hour or so. Since we always had the fish with Albariño in Spain, we decided to have the Albino Rhino with it--a match made in heaven! The Albariños that we had in Spain were quite excellent, but a steady diet of these seemingly acidic wines was a bit too much for me. The Albino Rhino has developed a very nice softness that cuts through the acidity and makes it perfect with the richness of the fish and the EVOO'ed potatoes.

Must make note of this. We always see this fish at CostCo, and the oldest wants me to always get it. I've told him he needs to look up the recipe, and we'll make it. Well, he never remembers, so it doesn't get made...might have to remind him one of these days.
