I've been in SoCal for a few months now, and haven't met most of you folks or even seen those I already know. Time to fix that. In addition, molarche has just joined me down here, so we need to turn it into a housewarming!

The festivities will be near Venice Blvd and the 405 Fwy. I'll PM addresses closer to the date.

The date is now set for Saturday, December 8. Hope everybody can make it! I'll make a batch of latkes to add to the Channukah celebrations and we will go from there.

So who's in? The theme will be celebratory wines. Interpret however you wish Sometimes I celebrate with an aged bottle of Burgundy or Cab for dinner and/or a bottle of icewine for dessert. Sometimes bubbly. Whatever!

The plan:
-Channukah candle lighting will be around 5-5:15pm. Those who wish to come early enough to participate are more than welcome.
-General start time 6pm or so, but feel free to come any time after 5:15.
-We will make latkes and have sour cream to go with them, chips, dips, Jewish style brisket, mystery dessert
-Everybody else please feel free to bring along something else to snack on. So far the list is:
-Baguette & duck rillets (Kyle)
-Dessert (time2testit+1)
-Sea Salt Caramels (Kyle)

Wine list so far:
-1999 Charles Ellner Brut Seduction (Kyle)
-Pehu Simonet Extra Brut (tyger)
-Flowers PN (tyger)
-Interesting Georgian wine (Tim)
-KR Forte, Pedroncelli Port, something else (Sparky)
-2005 Barolo (Kyle)
-Some tasty dessert wine (molarchae)
-Something either older and/or sweet (klezman)
-Whatever else molarchae and I end up bringing out

Attending:
-molarchae +1
-klezman +3
-zTimothyBz
-Sparky
-rjquillen
-kyle
-tytiger58 (maybe +1)
-time2testit +1
-ekeavney

Regrets:

I'm pretty busy through most of Oct/Nov, but I'm thinking something in early December could make for a fun gathering. If the crowd isn't too large I'm more than happy to host - I can fit 15-20 people at my place so long as no more than 12 want to sit at the same time.

So please chime in with your availability on the following weekends:
Dec 1-2
Dec 8-9
Dec 15-16

Just in case, I'll also throw in Oct 27-28 if that works better for folks.

So who's in?

Can you pin down your location a bit more precisely?
A bit of a haul from SD.

What city are you in? So Cal is so big - it even includes Las Vegas, when convenient - that an indication is helpful.

That said, one of the first two weekends in December may be a Madeira tasting in San Francisco, and the third Saturday is out for me. I could do the 28th of October, though.

As of now I am free all of those weekends. Except the October date.

We should be able to do one in our locker mid to late October. More likely mid.

Yeah, Palms/Culver City more accurately. Near the intersection of the 10/405. Sorry for leaving that out.

If a gathering should appear in Oct at the wine lockers, possibly Oct 6, 20, 27 weekends work for me. Now that I'm mobile again I'm in.

So then the 13th is good?

I could make the afternoon of the 27th, but might have to leave early (around 5).

That'd be good for me, I think. There's a small chance I'll need to head to the bay area, but for now it's clear.

Okay, how about you change the title here to SoCal #23 (so for a Nov/Dec gathering at your place), and I'll create a new one for SoCal #22.

23 will be at Klez's. Tim and I are breaking in the new combined Mega-Locker.

This was always set for December.

I think the current open dates are:

Dec 8-9
Dec 15-16

We just have to select one. Although I believe Hanukkah starts on the 8th.

I'd like to say the 8th, but I seem to think there may be something going on then. But maybe not.

I'd say the 15th, but we could celebrate my BiL's and Nephew's b-days then.

So for right now, I would prefer the 8th over the 15th. But right now, both are open as far as I know.

Bump.

molarchae wants to get the date set asap. We decided the theme will be celebratory wines...whatever you'd choose to drink to celebrate a new chapter of your life.

Channukah does indeed start Dec 8, pm, and runs through sundown Dec 16. No problem for me - those who are here at candle lighting time will get to join in. Maybe I'll make a batch of latkes! We can play some dreidl!

For those coming from far away, we've got both a futon and a couch that can be used. The Culver Hotel is close by and there are other options a little farther away.

Like sparky I have a variety of things going on both those weekends including some things that have not been announced but I know could fall on either weekend. I say just plan it and whoever can make it will do it. Further from Xmas is probably safer.

Lacking the prospect of a long drive home, this is sounding better all the time.
Most any flat space will work fine.
While not quite confirmed, now a maybe+, given I too have a rubber schedule to deal with.
