Gonna use some of this salt with that Pasta Caberneti from the wootoff.

Wow, I'd really like to get these. The grinders would be way easier than the little tubes of different salts I've got. A little too rich for my blood though, especially right after a woot off. Maybe they'll show up in the next woot off..?

My mouth is salivating for the Pink Salt. This is a great buy! Just picked up 3 Screaming Monkeys, 2 Dino T-shirts and this incredible salt deal.

I just went back and read the old description. "Condition: Salty"???
Bwahahahahaha!!! You've got to put that in this write-up, too - it's too funny!

That was part of the old woot page... the main page would have condition (new vs. refurbished), the wine page would have red vs. white, and on Thursdays, the condition would be something, well, silly.

Since they changed the site, the "condition" doesn't appear on the site, so I didn't copy it to the info post.

These salts sound cool but not sure... Is it really worth $20? Anyone ever have this kind of salt?

Remember, as good as it is, it has no iodine, which is pretty solid to have within yo' body.

But DAMN are these tasty.

Looking at the prior offer it appears that one had Hawaiian salt advertised but some got the Himalayan (the one offered this time) instead and were not happy about it. Did anyone try that salt (or the others) and have a review?

I love the Himalayan pink sea salt. I bought the single type at HomeGoods for around $5 plus tax. I made a dark chocolate cake, homemade buttercream frosting (unsalted butter, and no salt in frosting), and grinded this finely and sparingly on the top... The cake looked adorable, and it tasted incredible (imho).

Good sea salt is my cocaine. Yes--incredibly good and well worth the $20 price tag. I'm tempted to buy the limit and justify the volume by seeking the most bang for my delivery buck. My wife is sleeping & doesn't remember conversations the next morning. I could just tell her "you told me to get it" when she asks.

My daughters will only use sea salt after I got them addicted. Develop the palate while they're young (15 & 13).

These are great salts! For best effect, do not grind the French sel gris. BTW, FWIW, do not use any of these for Margaritas!

A similar set goes for about $28 on QVC, so this looks like a solid deal.

If you're really into salt, I mean.

Are these purely salt or are there any other ingredients? I have some severe food allergies, including something added to salt surprisingly often, so I want to make sure - but as my diet becomes more restricted, it would be great to add some new flavors!

Actually, Himalayan salt contains the same 84 minerals and trace elements found in the human body (including iodine) and is reputed to be quite good for you.

Table salt and, unfortunately, most commercially-available sea salt, is highly refined and processed and consists primarily of sodium chloride and additives to keep it from caking, with little to no beneficial mineral content. Himalayan salt does not contain toxins or impurities (and doesn't need to be refined because of this), may have health benefits, and tastes quite good. I use it exclusively.

With that said, I typically buy my Himalayan salt by the pound or kilo, which usually runs me $7-9, so I won't be jumping on this woot, but for those who wonder about Himalayan salt, it's quite tasty and potentially healthy, believe it or not.

Your mouth is salivating? What other part of your body would you expect to salivate? Wait, don't answer that.

Oh god, you used the magic "toxin" word. IE "I actually don't know anything about how the human body works, but I think it has bad stuff or something."

skeptic facepalm.

I have to say these seem grossly overpriced and aimed only at buyers who like to be trendy. If you want Himalayan salt, you can buy a salt lamp for much less and grind off pieces of it. It is the same thing except you will get several pounds instead of a few ounces.

sorry to say, i bought this a while ago and it was one of my most disappointing woots. the grinders couldn't grind, resulting in either no salt coming out, or you'd end up with large crystals. they also didn't keep out any moisture, so if you didn't use it within a week of peeling off the foil seal the salt clumped up.

i guess the salt tasted well, but i got so little use out of all of them i don't remember.

can't recommend this one.

Bought this set a while back, it's a great way to try different salts without making a commitment to large quantities and the grinders make it easy to use. As a previous poster said they can clump up (esp the sel gris which I never use the grinder for) so keep them in a cool dark place if possible. If not, the tops screw off easily, and you can break up the clumps and be back in business.

Question, can the lid be removed to access the salt in crystal form? I have also had problems with spices that come in poor quality plastic grinders. With some of them you can completely remove the lid so you can used a better grinder, instead. I think if I could count on that with this offer, I would be in for one.

Iodine is in the soil in the US and you get it in the food you eat, which is why iodine deficiency is virtually unheard of here. Also, every time you eat in a restaurant or have any processed food of any kind, including bread from a bakery and dairy products, there is salt in it which likely contains iodine. Rest easy, you will not suffer from the dread iodine shakes.

For those of you that live near a Trader Joe's, you can re-create the most interesting elements of this set (smokey, pink) for about half the price.

For everyone else, this isn't that cheap. You can't think about what you're getting in terms of designer sodium chloride; you have to think of it in terms of amount of flavor vs $25 of other spices. Yeah, it's still a close call.

I'm going to pass and get my sel(f) to TJs.

The colors are due to impurities and other minerals. I just finished reading a great book, Salt: A World History, which I highly recommend for any fan of salt (or history).

I will be picking up a set of the salts here.

The smoked salt is really good on top of a pat of butter served with some bread. You get a little butter, a little bread and a little hint of smoke.

To be extra smokey, throw a loaf of bread on the grill too.

Yummy!

Word of warning, if you make your own butter, the smoked salt doesn't work so well. Turns your butter grey.

Can anyone explain how "sea salt" is hand mined in the Himalayan mountains?

It's not. It's labeled Himalayan Pink Salt, not sea salt.

The Himalayan Pink Salt is a staple in India. You can get it cheap in any Indian store by the pound.

In India it is primarily used in fruit salads. Also to spike up yogurt to make "Raita", along with other spices.

Sprinkle on a watermelon, or on a sliced banana with a drop of lemon juice for a heavenly taste.

It has special properties to make foods more digestible.
