Pond Life, part 2!

So I thought part 1 was terrible, honestly. Too much doctor, not enough Amy & Rory. Too short. I thought the series was going to be a bit more about life - what, so they sit around, drinking wine, listening to the Doctor on the answering machine? Would it have killed them to do some little bits like the Red Nose Day thing? With actual plot?

Bah.

Sigh.

And yep, I want that teapot so much and its only sold in australia (that I saw) - unless someone sees it for sale here like on w0ot - that would be awesome.

Ha, it's like 2 minutes total on the episodes, not so hard to catch up. :D

So I have like a horrible delay before the new episodes will be available to me (not the webisodes, the real ones) since we have to wait for PBS or the web (aka DVD - usually releases coincide).

Last night on my pre-kindergarten date with Ver2 we stopped in Hot Topic and got some pins. I picked up a Matt Smith "The Doctor" pin and brought it home. Ver1 wanted it for her backpack, so Orc said she had to prove she's earned it by sharing her Doctor Who knowledge. Since she's only really watched Sarah Jane before today, she didn't have much to go on.... Today we watched Fish Custard and Starship UK (Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below).

Ver2 isn't completely sold, although she likes Amy and wants to see the wedding. I think we should back up to Season1 of the reboot. Ah my sweet little Whovians.

Convinced the girls to go to Season 1 of the reboot - watched Rose and The End of the World last night. Ver2 was scared, but begged to watch the next one, so tonight, MORE DOCTOR WHO!

I told myself not to come back to this thread, then I forgot. Once it's on the monitor I can't seem to scroll past it.

Anyway, I've been a casual watcher of Doctor Who, remembering the days I used to sit in front of my parents black and white watching them. They were so confusing (mostly because the feed was from Canada and they were in French) but just recently my 9yr old discovered them on Netflix and spent 2 weeks watching as many as he could. By the end of the two weeks the rest of the family was sucked in too.

No spoilers, but Asylum of the Daleks reminds me that it's a kids show. Sigh. I'm hoping that Mr Moffat pulls it together.

That said--really enjoyed it! It was mostly in the post-viewing breakdown that inconsistencies bubbles to mind.

I just noticed Amazon has the episode for $2, but no subtitles.... does anyone know if Netflix has it by chance? I'd consider getting Netflix if they have it with subtitles, no subtitles no deal.

No new season spoilers follow (that I can determine) but IMHO:

Season 7 had a great start, though one action by the Doctor I am not too quick to embrace. It crosses a timeline w/Amy & Rory we've glimpsed before and we meet someone with the potential to be a future/past companion.

All in all a B+ in my book.

Yeah, I think I'd agree with the B+ grade - enjoyable enough, but lacking in parts. Pond Life was an absolute waste.

If Moffat wants to continue with the simplified "movie" approach that seems to be this year's trend, maybe the episodes should be longer and given a bit more depth.

Still, the 'meta surprise' was a nice surprise. I hope it plays out into something later, and wasn't just "look how clever we are".

Kids love dinosaurs so the dinos may just be a tease to help draw in younger/family viewers. Can't blame them for trying to ratchet up the fan base.

While I've got my personal peeves about the premier it's still the only show I DVR.

That said, I'm trying to dial back my expectations and rediscover how to just enjoy the ride.

I think it was 1965 when I first saw the D. on PBS and have enjoyed all since then. However I truly enjoy Tom Baker best.

Hey I have a question for the doctor who specialist (I'm a fan, but still most trivia I'm clueless on).

Does anyone remember about 2 seasons ago (I think) an episode where DrWho had a daughter? Cant remember the name of the episode, but essentially his DNA was cloned and she was half time lord then or something - at the end she took a super long time to regenerate, so the doctor leaves thinking she's dead and all sad and she manages to fly off in another spaceship 'to see the stars'?

Anyway, why have they never come back to that storyline or did I miss it somewhere? For ages I've been waiting for the follow up and nada. It's driving me bonkers. anyone, anyone? TIA.

The episode is called The Doctor's Daughter (I believe). David Tennant married that actress and they have a kid together (her pregnancy may have had something to do with her never coming back - but that's only a theory.) I'd love to see her come back and be a reoccurring character or even just a known presence in the universe. So far the writers haven't decided to do that.

It was Season 4 Episode 6 - called The Doctor's Daughter. The character was named Jenny and played by actress Georgia Moffett.

I would really love to see the character come back, she was just so much fun and had so much energy. She was stealing scenes the same way Captain Jack did back in Season 1.

The whole real life story is kinda fun though...

Georgia is the real-life daughter of Peter Davison, the actor who played the 5th doctor, 30 years ago. Peter Davison was born as Peter Moffet.

Georgia Moffet then went on to marry actor David Tennant, the 10th Doctor, after they met on the set of The Doctor's Daughter.

They have a Daughter together.


(This has noting to do with the writer with the name of Moffat.)


I found a youtube video from ComicCon where Matt Smith was asked about the Jenny character coming back and he just said, no one knows.

Haven't seen Pond Life yet, now my enthusiasm is kind of dampened.

It has been fun watching the versions watch the Doctor for the first time. They really get sucked into it. I wish my parents had sat and watched Doctor Who with ME as a kid. I am pretty sure they just changed the channel if it came on PBS.

No real spoilers to follow (that I can determine), so….

After doing my share of nitpicking and whining about the season 7 opener, I wanted to just sit back and get sucked into the next story. Either I was successful in letting my inner 10 year old out for the evening or I’ve been avoiding those who poke holes in the stories because I greatly enjoyed episode 7.2.

This one was exactly “as advertised” with dinosaurs – on a spaceship! While I have no young versions underfoot it seemed to be spot on kid-friendly without going totally Teletubbies on us. The characters we meet are for the most part entertaining (though there are two I think were kinda tossed in but to no ill effect) and are more than just window dressing.

Ok – I will toss out my one pet peeve that seems to run through this season. I’ve seen the Doctor miss the forest for the trees in both shows this season. I guess I’m old and too accustomed to the Doctor being the clever one in the ensemble.

Now back to the good: While far from ground breaking, I enjoyed the opening/closing. And there were dinosaurs – on a spaceship!

All in all a step up from 7.1 and an A in my book.
