North316 wrote:Cool concept, but fails in price. This Herb Garden was offered before for $20. They just want us to pay an extra $40 for the planter now.

I the Herb garden was a good deal, I bought one. This, not so much.

I am also very disappointed in woot for inflating the retail price, like other sites do, to present a higher savings. That is one reason why I don't purchase from those sites.

I've noticed that woot has gotten more and more retail and has had less "deals" ever since they were bought out by amazon. I hope woot doesn't go the way of companies like Tuesday Morning...

I appreciated the video with the attractive man. I'm not sure I was really hearing what he was saying though! :-)

I bought something very similar to this on Overstock.com. It is the Akro-Mils 30-quart medium stack-A-Pot ($31.35), but the bad news is it sold out and they haven't gotten any more in the last few months. They do have the small size for almost the same price, so I'm waiting. Mine is much bigger than this one offered on Woot but it didn't come with the planting material or seeds - big deal... I can get that stuff cheap elsewhere. My planter has a bottom collection tray and 3 trays above for planting. I have it sitting on a metal table on my back deck in Georgia and am using it for tomato plants. I have 9!!! plants growing in it and have 20 something tomatoes so far - haven't tasted them because they aren't ripe yet. Anyway, I just don't think this is a good deal, Woot! I do like the fact this pot has wheels, but wheeled trays can be bought for around $10 anywhere and can be placed under the Akro-Mils planter.

Okay... so I did a Google search and the 30 quart Akro-Mils I was talking about can be purchased on amazon.com right now for $31.46 INCLUDING shipping. Just be sure to check the measurements if you plan to put it inside because it is large especially after the plants are in. Also, you don't get to select a color.

Hey Everyone, sellers checking in.. we goofed up on the percentage off on this one. The stackandgrow.com site hasn't been updated in a long time, with the other colors etc that are now available. We have moved the production here to Springville, UT and got the best plastic we could just in the last month and decided to make it locally! Completely BPA free and smooth and beautiful. We have been primarily doing all of our marketing on HerbKits.com and totally goofed up by not updating StackandGrow.com with the current product line colors and pictures.

With this deal you are still getting about $15 off the price listed there when you account for shipping. Also available are more of the popular color options like terra cotta and sand.

Thank you guys for all your comments! You will find that the herbs grow so great, we have one growing at our office right now and the herbs create such an amazing smell. You will love it!

I have the aerogarden, that I just had to have to grow herbs, and it was fun, they grew fast and then I kept looking at the herbs in that thing wondering..what am I going to do with them... and then they died.. and I grew them again.. and then they died.. Since I am primarily a weekend cook.. it was a waste for me

Thanks for the info. The same exact kit at herbkits.com (you have to get the stacker and the culinary herbs separately) would cost roughly $70 plus shipping ($19 to my location), but there is another kit with the same herbs and a slightly different stacker for $59, plus what I assume would be a similar shipping cost.

For future reference, nobody thinks shipping costs should be included in the listed retail price. Woot is a place where you get one product daily, deeply discounted, and always $5 shipping. I appreciate the redesigned site, and the bonus offers are nice. But quite frankly this is not a deal worthy of woot!

The site mentioned above, herbkits.com, has the Stack & Grow pot set on sale for $40. The Herb Kit is $30. Shipping costs seem to vary but are $15-20.

http://www.herbkits.com/garden-planter

Woot offered the Herb Kit for $20 back in January.

Basically, you are saving $20 off the regular prices at herbkits.com, plus saving $15 on the shipping.

Not that great of a Woot deal but the Stack & Grow company makes their stuff here in the U.S., so it might be nice to support a company that employs Americans.

are these some sort of miniature plants that don't grow as large as normal herbs? My dill this year got almost 4 feet high, and the parsley and cilantro were a good 3 feet. The shortest herb in my garden was the basil at 12-18 inches! If you are single, this MIGHT do for you, if you only use a tiny bit of herbs. Plus, how are the lower plants supposed to get any sun?? You can go anywhere and buy a $5 bag of potting soil, lay it flat or line up a couple of bags, cut the top open, and sprinkle exactly the seeds you want for about a buck a packet. Spend around $10 bucks total and you have all the herbs you and your neighbors will need for a year!

oops, pardon me, i wooted

I use a foot-and-a-half-long planter for basil. I grow it inside, and I get a ton.

That is only for the planter and does not include the herb kit.

Woot! has always been a retailer; and while there are certainly more products being now simultaneously offered, I don't believe there are any less being sold for a good discount than before.
