Relatively low alcohol (14%) for the area and the varietal. Is it really 14%? Acidity also looks pretty good, again, considering the varietal. Seems like a more restrained winery style. Kind of interesting.

Awesome vinyeard; wonderful winery and winemaker; classic vintage = a wine for wine.wooters!

Seriously, this is a great bottle of wine, and I can tell you that the 'sweet spot' for syrah from this vineyard is normally in the low 14%s in my humble opinion (I also do a syrah and grenache from this vineyard).

Have to agree, although I wish WW would have gotten in on the 06's a year ago when they were hot. Lot18 has featured Bonnaccorsi three or four times, usually at $30/bottle. So pretty comparable pricing, although shipping here beats all. Still a nice grab WD.

Bonaccorsi is much more known for their pinot noirs (especially the single vineyards, Oh! Mutating Goodness!).

That is not to take anything away from their syrahs, and I'm thrilled to see them here on woot!

Just checked, and I had the 2006 Larner back on 9/11/2011, and my notes are as follows:

Very ripe; glad I opened it in time. Nice leather note, not too dry. All in all very balanced. Dark fruit, stone fruit, slight white pepper note; like the tannins. Good structure! Excited for it to breathe for a while and evolve.

I've had both the 2007 Star Lane and Larner Syrahs. Alcohol Content: From my experience with Bonaccorsi Pinot Noirs, they tend to be the 14-14.5% range, but their Syrahs are in the 15.5-15.9 range (2006 Star Lane was 15.9 brought down some afterwards but not by much). I bought and tried mine (2007 Star Lane and 2007 Larner Syrah) in April 2012, but I don't have my notes. However, there were 2 things were burned into my mind: (1) heat - high alcohol, I believe the Star Lane and Larner are in about 15.6 (2) too young, too disjointed, needed time. My other 3 bottles are in my brother's cellars. I think this will, in another 2-3 years, be a very good wine. If your taste buds are acclimated to high alcohol wines, you can probably drink this now. But I think another 6 months would do the 2007 Star Lane and Larner Syrahs some good.

Star Lane and Larner are in the Santa Ynez Valley (Central Coast), but they are different from the Santa Ynez Syrah or AKA Bonaccorsi Syrah (standard name), so I can't really say how the 2007 Santa Ynez will taste although I can't see them making this under 15.5% alcohol because that's their style for Syrahs.

Do the Lot 18 people have any kind of guerilla board where they talk about the offerings? I'm always afraid to dive into their offers specifically because there is no board like this one where people can post their comments about the product.

I'm probably in the minority with this POV, but I think Syrah is better than Pinot in the cooler parts of Santa Ynez including SRH. And on top of that, Pinot producers often make the best Syrah. Syrah has plenty of power and tannin--the Pinot mindset often yields spectacular results in bringing finesse to Syrah. Heck, I often think the Syrah is the best wine in the stable with many PN producers.

Larner is a great Syrah vineyard on top of everything else. I also noticed Bonaccorsi makes a Bien Nacido Syrah. There aren't many of these around, but Bien Nacido Syrahs are simply spectacular. I doubt they'd be able to buy the fruit if they weren't producing killer juice.

Cabernet Franc: it's not just for blending! It's also for blogging.

Sorry to join the party so late.
Yes, the 2 syrah are definitely lower alcohol than you have seen in some of our other vintages. But I have made Pinots that have been higher than 14.5, and Syrah lower than 14.5. We sometimes have to make decisions to get it riper as some of the vineyards I work with the syrah fruit gets the green elements I do not like in wine,
such as bell pepper, too herbal, etc. But we are also talking about Happy Canyon which can get to be in the upwards of 100 degrees.
It really depends on the vintage. 2007 happened to be a great vintage for us and the weather was very consistent.
I am not sure I would describe these wines as restrained. I love my pinots and syrah to have power, concentration.
But please remember that the numbers that we throw at you, ph, ta, etc. can sometimes be arbitrary. The numbers help us make a healthy sound wine, but you actually have to taste the fruit to know what needs to be done.

I agree with you. The 2006 Syrah is tasting really well. Our Syrah needs time. So do our Pinots.
But it really depends on how you like your wines. I tend to like some age but not too much age.
Obviously, these are generalities as some producer's wines hold up really well.
But I would rather drink my burgundies in the 10-15 year range, not 20-25.

Hi Jenne; welcome to Woot!

I just opened the Santa Ynez Valley and ran through the Vinturi, but truthfully I should decant... juggling time and priorities on a family Sunday...

Strong nose... aromas of dark fruit/berries with a whiff of stewed plums. On the palate, ripe, dark berries with a subtle layer of spice and a little pepper as well. Sensing a little meatiness. Again, I want to give this some time in the decanter and see how it opens up, but dare I say it.... Quality Juice.
