Relatively low alcohol (14%) for the area and the varietal. Is it really 14%? Acidity also looks pretty good, again, considering the varietal. Seems like a more restrained winery style. Kind of interesting.

Awesome vinyeard; wonderful winery and winemaker; classic vintage = a wine for wine.wooters!
Seriously, this is a great bottle of wine, and I can tell you that the 'sweet spot' for syrah from this vineyard is normally in the low 14%s in my humble opinion (I also do a syrah and grenache from this vineyard).
Cheers!

pfajardo19 wrote:Star Lane and Larner are in the Santa Ynez Valley (Central Coast), but they are different from the Santa Ynez Syrah or AKA Bonaccorsi Syrah (standard name), so I can't really say how the 2007 Santa Ynez will taste although I can't see them making this under 15.5% alcohol because that's their style for Syrahs.
Both are listed at 14%.

I happen to have both bottles within reach and can confirm the printed alcohol of 14% on each.
I may open the Santa Ynez Valley later and jot down some tasting notes. I'm thinking I should at least wait until after lunch...

I was impressed with the 2006 Star Lane Syrah from Bonaccorsi. I'm definitely considering going in on this.

Hi Jenne; welcome to Woot!
I just opened the Santa Ynez Valley and ran through the Vinturi, but truthfully I should decant... juggling time and priorities on a family Sunday...
Strong nose... aromas of dark fruit/berries with a whiff of stewed plums. On the palate, ripe, dark berries with a subtle layer of spice and a little pepper as well. Sensing a little meatiness. Again, I want to give this some time in the decanter and see how it opens up, but dare I say it.... Quality Juice.
