Granted, I still have a bottle and a half left, but I've only had it 5 weeks--can't drink it all at once. Yes, half a bottle was opened a few days ago, still has time left.

Also, I've had a few corked wines that were so horrible I had to run to the local wal-mart to get a boxed wine to wash away the taste. (okay, not really; but you get my point) Being corked doesn't qualify a bottle as good. So why should being screwed be bad?

In for a box.

Thanks for the support of my box ;o) I know you'll enjoy and I promise it won't be corked, or "screwed!"

liverman wrote:Hi Katie, Thanks for joining! I really like the philanthropic angle on your enterprise!

I was drinking a '07 Leon Beyer Gewürz (Alsace) tonight - apples, melon, pineapple, honey, juice running down your arm with a gorgeous deep gold hue - so I appreciate a white with some age on it.

I'm always seeking to learn and I am curious about what it was about this wine that lead you to decide to hold it for 3+ years before release (I guess I am taking a leap from your comment that it was recently released in 2012)? Also, did it spend most of that time in the tanks/vats/barrels or whatever you call your stainless steel cans :-) or was some of that time in the bottle? Can you describe the evolution over that time...lit's not often that we run across a SB with some time on it and I am intensely curios how this one has evolved...or maybe since you compared it with a Sancerre, perhaps we should go snobby and talk about the elevage??

Hey - this is what I do when I get up early on a Saturday
Thanks for the info and I enjoy your particiaption on these boards - thanks!

Also, thanks for the commment on our philanthropic angle. Just makes the world go 'round!

Can anyone tell me how exactly how summer ship works to keep below the boiling point LOL? I ordered the TY Red last month and the bottle was 92 degrees. I'm in Florida and it was very hot when it was delivered in afternoon. Got alot of room in my "wine cellar" and would love to stock it.
Thanks!!!

Anyone in DC/NoVA interested in a split? I don't think I need 6 bottles, but I'd love three....

(PM me, maybe)

WineDavid at Wine Country Connect has the summer shipping down to an art form. Official summer shipping started last week. This old blog gives the gist of it except there's no longer the $2 extra shipping charge.

WineDavid is confident that he'll get the wine to you in good shape but should you receive a bottle that you feel has been cooked, please contact service@woot.com.

NOT citrusy at all. As I say in my Vintner Voicemail it drinks more like a Sancerre. Super mineraliatic, ocean dune, clean slate in a good way ;) nice stone fruit but NOT in your face fruit! You'll enjoy if u like dryer SB's!

None really. Mineralistic with light stone fruit notes but more grassy notes than anything. Clean

I know it sounds crazy...but any margarita lovers out there? When we host tastings at our estate we have our Sauv Blanc still, then a side-by-side of a Sauv Blanc Margarita! It's actually super tasty and an inventive way to intrigue our consumers. So though this wine rocks alone, a fun & different way to play with your friends is the SB with lime, lemon, a rad simple syrup & "te-killya"...once again, Toolbox is doing something different!

It is all marketing and no flavor! I bought the toolbox "merlot" that Woot sold. Horrid! After a string of remarkable wines from woot, I got this plonk. Evidently Woot is not about quality wines after all. The Merlot was just ingelnook grade squeeze. I would never buy a toolbox wine again.

Wow...not sure what to say on this one. As Founding Vintner & Winemaker I think everyone has personal opinions & "flavors." Not sure what your expectations are but all I know is after only 4 years in the biz and no nasty crap remarks like yours we've had nothing like good support and success. Sorry you're not part of the fam base but wine is ALL an opinion...but frankly doesn't need to be lashed out when one person has a different view...just my two cents

In for one... And GO TEXAS!!!

When there are many posts about how good the merlot was (price considered, of course!) and then a single person who didnt like it posts a negative review (which you, of course, are entitled to your own palate), I'm skeptical. When the negative reviewer, instead of saying, "Not for me," goes on to attack all of wine.woot and the overall quality of all offers based on a single occurrence, after praising the previous woot offers (!!!) he/she bought no less, I disregard the opinion completely.

Agreed...wine is a passion for many with an opinion by all. People have thier own tastes and preferences, which is great. What would the world be if everyone liked the same thing in everything? Boring. I've learned over the years when running across those I meet which our tastes are different (and referring to not just my wine but friends as well) it's unfortunate when they try pushihg thier thoughts/palate on you...like its the right one. Botton line, if it's not for you, its not for you. I love my wine and seems a majority of the people do as well. I praise WOOT for all you're doing and represent. Quite excited and honored to be partnering with such a great team that DOES know quality wines!

Time is a-ticking! Thanks to all you Wooters that purchased for your support - great wine for a great cause. If any of you are ever visiting Napa in the near future, please feel free to give me a holler (email) via my website www.toolboxwineco.com - We have a killer estate property with a view where we host our tastings. Literally overlooks Artesa for those of you familiar with the area...Can't beat it. Would love to have any of you up!

Thanks for hanging out Toolbox. I didn't buy, but I always appreciate winery participation, even if it's from a Giants fan.

I thought I could resist this one, but I'm low on white wines, my wife loves Sancerre, and she said "just buy it!" when I consulted her.

Hope it's good!

toolboxshaffer wrote:Well said, well said! There was a great amount of acidity in this wine, in a good way. And frankly we could have released it earlier but I prefer letting some of that "fuzz" mellow out a bit.

In regards to the fruit/nuanices itself: We did pick it a bit earlier, but the natural "habitat" was very cool and damp,so the fruit took on to its location. The vineyards were quite granite/rock based and with the wet mornings they soaked it in...just like those big reds that have eucyliptis (sp?) trees growing around them tend to soak in those characteristics.
I think we just felt that the wine had such good balance and was holding up so great that we'd let it mellow out a bit and it did. More well rounded now. The acidity held up like we thought. The wine was purley stainless steel fermented and aged for 8 months - no oak. Then bottled and held....we released it late last year. I think it could hold up for another year quite honestly. I am just a huge fan of steely, ocean-dune, mineralistic, "dirty" in a good way SB's - not in your face fruit forward Sauv Blancs. Don't get me wrong, there is great fruit there, but it's not over powering like some vintners get...hope that helps!

Thanks, Katie, for taking the time with such a detailed explanation!

I find that more knowledge helps me appreciate wines better.

Thanks!

Regards,

Greg

With the W for Texas I dunno.. ;-)

I promise the next time in in Cali, I will be sure to send you a message. I truly enjoy your comment on the board and I hope you wine is half as good as I can fear.

Cheers and I hope to taste it in a few months...
