I won't go there.

Page springs were the best wines in the verde valley during my trip there last year, but A.S. not so much. Nearly had to spit most of it back out. That bad, that green, just plain awful. Go across the street to Pillsbury instead.

I know Woot featured a Stronghold wine before, but is this the first time they've sold Arizona-grown wine?

The red blend these guys made for this year's Arizona Centennial was fantastic.

Dagnabit! I just finished balancing the checkbook, and low and behold I have a few extra pennies! I've been craving some seriously good Rose...and here this comes up.

My hubby and I have this strange game of "six degrees of separation". He likes rock music, but not wine, and I like wines that rock! Needless to say, we are both big fans of Maynard's (and Tool) (even had a cat named after him). Can't pass this up, even with the "D"IWBM.

I'd buy it just because I'm a big fan of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer, but the following from the winery's website concerns me a bit:

"To maintain the highest quality of our wines, Arizona Stronghold has suspended all wine shipments from our online store for the duration of the summer months. We will resume shipping when cooler weather prevails. To find a retail location contact your local distributor"

Is Woot now offering summer shipping? Seems like too much of a gamble to ship to South Florida with regular ground shipping right now.

Also, off topic, but as an Amazon Prime customer, I'm wondering if Woot ever plans on offering Amazon Prime members free 2 day shipping like regular Amazon purchases?

Same here. The Stronghold Mandala was surprisingly good, which puts me firmly on the fence, as I only know about the winemakers, not the grapes (the mandala was California grapes). Hmm...

Also, here's Maynard talking wine on Tim and Eric:

There's a documentary centered around this winery called "Blood into Wine" available on NetFlix. I think I watched it 'streraming' back when, but it looks like it might only be available there on DVD now.

Probably not this vintage, but I do recall trying some pink juice resembling rosè.

Main page lists Maryland shipping, but the order page is telling me that they can't ship this offer to MD. Anyone else have this problem?

I sent an email to service@woot.com, but thought I'd post here as well in case there were some woot folks lurking around that could help.

Yes, we are in Summer shipping mode. Wine Country Connect has summer shipping down to an art at this point. However, if you ever receive a bottle with a problem, email service@woot.com.

Don't know where to post this because I can't find anything anymore ;)

Although I haven't wooted too often, I used to check in all the time. However, with that obnoxious popup asking me if new to register or existing customer to sign in, well, I hardly even bother to see what's going on anymore. Just sayin'.

Haven't had this particular wine -- in fact, have only had one Arizona Stronghold wine, the Nachise. I'm not sure what vintage, probably the 2008 or 2009. Either way, it was the happy hour pour at one of the best restaurants in Detroit two summers ago, and it was outstanding to the point that I looked into where to get some locally to keep at home. (Cooler heads then prevailed when I inventoried my w.w stock.)

All of that is to say, I see Arizona Stronghold and I do think hard about it.

Also, the blend looks awesome. Hope someone drops by to talk about using big bad varietals in a rose.

I saw this documentary a while back and it was quite entertaining, though winery that it focused on was Eric and Maynard's Caduceus Cellars. I've been hoping woot would grace us with some wines from Caduceus one day.

I, too, have been waiting for that day. I'm pretty close to just leading an exodus to the Caduceus tasting room in Jerome, AZ, to buy their wines there.

I agree and have posted this comment before. I look at all of these Stronghold and Arizona Stronghold offerings as being just another bottle for Maynard to get his name on. While I don't doubt the skill and experience of Eric Glomski; after watching the documentary I really only care to taste the fruits (pun intended) of Maynard's true labor on his own vineyard and winery, with the winemaking skill and passion of Eric included.

WD, please work on getting some Caduceus Cellars. Until then I will pass. I do hope that Eric stops on here to talk and answer questions through. His knowledge and passion for wine is unmistakable.

Is there any particular reason why the offers vary which states they can ship to? I ordered a wine.woot about a month ago and it shipped to SC but this one will not.

Every winery needs a separate license from each state which is why your state isn't listed.

SWMBO has put a limit on my 'wine allowance', but I am very interested in trying this. Anyone in and around Southern NH (Nashua) want to split an order?

I was patiently waiting for rosé since two woot-offs ago, but finally just yesterday broke down and bought a mixed case of rosé from Astor Wines, my local wine shop here in Manhattan. So I think I will be passing on this.

That said, does anyone share my very slight snobbery about American rosé, vs. European? It seems to me that historically rosé was looked down upon in the US as the cheap dregs of the wine industry, and there is a lingering aftertaste of wino to much rosé in the US. In Europe it's just a normal part of the wine experience, and what one is most likely to drink with lunch in the summer.

In researching this hunch, I came across the wonderful site Bum Wine, complete with high-res pictures, history, and reviews of Thunderbird, Night Train, and Wild Irish Rose.

Yo Kman, AZ Stronghold is actually set up for distribution in Maryland, so you can check your local wine store for our wines! No need to order

...enjoyed a nice, cold bottle of this a week ago on a warm Sonoma afternoon... It's got spunk- zesty and bright with a touch of frizzante. ...Strawberries and spice...

It's rosé season kids. Have a glass with some summer picnic fare, wait 45 minutes and then jump in. The water's fine...

I must admit that the words "Arizona" and "wine" are not ones I would normally think of together.

But being open to new things is one of the best things about drinking wine. The more I taste, the more I learn. And I am extremely fond of dry rosé. So count me in.

I couldn't tell you. None were worth taking notes. I was excited to go to verde valley and go wine tasting. It ended up being a large waste of time and money (other than the awesome road and views to/from Jerome). The QPR for Arizona is just not there yet. I respect that it will take a while for things to get better, so I will check back in a decade or so.

Perhaps you could let me know when the time comes that you're willing to get back to our area and give us another try. I would be glad to taste you through a whole plethora of things that I think sets Arizona apart, and speaks of our unique and quality efforts that equal any wine region in our country. Open invitation.... you can contact me at tim@azstronghold.com. Take care.
