Thank you for the response and for your dependable visits to the Woot forums. Your descriptions are so vivid, I can't wait to try this wine! It is always difficult for me to "hold" wines.

Separate topic - I couldn't find any discussion on the woot plus deals in the world of wine area - is it just too early in the morning and i can't find it? With it being twisted oak and iron house - sounds like my first opportunity to do some damage with the all day $5 shipping!

We've started some threads for you all.

They're a bit barebones - sorry! It doesn't appear to be automated at the moment so we did what we could over here.

I'm just hanging out, really.

Sorry about my lateness, I needed to crash hard after my bachelor party this past weekend.

I've had this wine on a number of occasions. It is an out-and-out steal. So much more structure than most PaSo petites, great dark fruit flavors without any plum or prune flavors, and the oak monster is not around.

The only thing better than this wine is the guy who makes it.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just run and buy this wine. It is just a glass of pure awesomeness.

(No, I do not get paid for doing this, though Stillman has made a few tongue-in-cheek offers to do so).

What I offered to do was supply the entertainment for your bachelor party, which you wisely declined. It's always so embarrassing to introduce your three or four children of the same age as half-brothers and sisters.

Stillman,

THANK YOU! Been waiting for this one for a while. Got the blue label last time it was offered on Woot, but was hoping for the red label when you told me it was most like your 2005 BZ. Absolutely my favorite. Haven't tried the Colossus yet as I need to have other appreciative wine drinkers with me when I do.

In for 2!

LMAO!

Next time I'm near Paso, if I can only visit one tasting room, it has to be Stillmans!

I just realized I've met Stillman Brown. He was at a small wine tasting in Bakersfield, CA filled with boring older women sitting on couches. He obviously did not look like the other people pouring wines, so my friends and I (mid to upper 20s) went over and made conversation with him. He was hilarious, and you could tell quite the partier. He was also equally as bored with the tasting as we were.

We ended up drinking only the wine he was pouring until it eventually ran out. A lot of the bottles didn't have labels yet because he artist hadn't finished them, so I don't remember what they were.

I also went to the Cal Poly Wine Festival and saw him there, taking pictures with 4-5 Cal Poly hotties at a time. Apparently he's quite the local celebrity. He was out of wine 45 minutes after the festival started. My friends and I pointed and said "Look, it's Plankton!"

Funny I'm just now finding out it's him. I'll go in for one just for this and hopefully it's a good wine.

First week in October is the week to come. Tasting room in Morro Bay, and the wildest winery party in the world, "SPEED LIMIT" on the 5th and 6th. Nothing against 'jazz in the vineyard' but . . . everybody does that.

I need to run over to Paso to check on my client's wines, I'm bottling them tomorrow. Same vineyard as the Colossus . . . who knows they may show up on Woot sometime. Come around the first week in October and I'll give you a pre-harvest tour.

In the redzeppelinwinery.com faq it says:

Why don't you use "natural" corks in your wines?

First of all, because mold is smelly. More properly, TCA (2,4,6 trichloroanisole) and its friends are, and they have no business around wine. For over twenty years we've heard excuses from the cork industry, and we got tired of them. While some artificial or hybrid corks have proved trouble-free, the best modern screwcaps (such as the Alvis) are the best insurance that our wine will be properly preserved and aged in the bottle.

But in the pictures of these bottles it looks like a cork floating in the glass? So which is it - a screwcap or a cork? Just wondering.

It's a DIAM cork, flushed with supercritical CO2. Expensive but foolproof.

While y'all were not asking me questions, I was tinkering with the one ton/acre Viognier I'm bottling tomorrow, and figuring out the set list for my Buzzcocks cover band with my 70% lesbian bass player. Another reason to bring earplugs to wine country!!!

It's not mine, it's my client's, and since there were only two barrels I don't know that it'll be available outside their tasting room. I will encourage them to Woot but I'm really just the viti/eno consultant, not the marketing cog . . .

i got my shipment of Abolone and Rose a couple weeks back. Strange thing is, there was a giant leaf on top of the styrafoam. i took it for a sign, but am not sure what the sign is? I figure yu were trying to smuggle tree leafs back to the midwest, and decided to do it one leaf at a time in Abolone shipments. Anyway, the Abolone was the hit of my Memorial day barbecue, and I must say we drank 10 or more different bottles of wine that night, so that was quite an honor to be the best - may have to pick up another case if any left.

I am in for 6 more bottles of the Black Zeppelin too. Seems my earlier shipment acquired holes in the bottom of the bottles, and the wine all drained out. I gotta get more to make it through the summer.

I would be acquiring a good collection of Stillman, if I didn't drink it so fast.

Stillman,

I still have 4 bottles of the 09 BZ Monterey PS in the cellar, haven't had one since last summer, when I thought it was really starting to shine. How is this wine doing nowadays? Should I hold for another year or two?

The new square is very psychedelic. It's like it's trying to hypnotize me into buying this.
