Unfamiliar with this principal wine offering tonight.....but one of the bonus wine offers on the wine.woot page (as newly designed)might be of interest.....larger format St. Supery reds. I've purchased St. Supery reds more than once and liked them. You might want to do some research on the wines (and prices) to see if those winewoot deals are for you.

I was looking for a little more info about the wine, and as I used to live in Santa Cruz I thought I'd look on the map to see exactly where the winery is. It's actually a block from the 101 freeway on Industrial Road in San Carlos! Just not what I was expecting. I guess the grapes are from the Santa Cruz mountains? I'm sure most wine is in fact made in industrial settings rather than picturesque vine-covered wineries. It just wasn't what I was expecting when I did the search. Here's a satellite photo of their location.

Would love to hear from the winery or anyone who has direct experience with this wine, as I'm in the market for some Pinot Noir.

Our friend is a manager at this winery and when we visited a couple of years ago we tasted a few of their wines. From what I recall they produce "big" Italian-style wines, ripe, rich, strong alcohol but not too hot. Of course, these are Pinots and a Chardonnay (which we did not taste) so they may not be similar at all.

The CT Pinot link takes you to both barrel and bottle reviews by Richard Jennings, who I trust on Pinot.
He has them in the very good everyday drinker range, so worth the price for the offer.

Know the family had, or is still big importers on east coast.
Read CT notes, hoping to hear from winemaker.

I browsed their website and it appears they source from all over the state. Pinot from Santa Crux, Cab Franc from Lodi, Italian varieties from Amador, and so on. Generally I look for producers who are focused on a couple of varietal wines that may be broadly sourced or who source/farm fruit for a diverse mix of varietal wines in one region. There are no absolutes, but producers with a tight focus are often more easily able to optimize vintage to vintage. Broad sourcing requires a lot of trust and reliance upon distant growers.

Usually my qualm is with the price for these types of producers, but here it's quite nice @ $20 per bottle assuming these have good varietal character.

Cabernet Franc: it's not just for blending! It's also for blogging.

Doesn't really matter were the winery is. I make wines from Lake County to Amador County all at one winery in St. Helena.
I have judged these wines in various wine competitions. They tend to do well winning medals. My cellar needs more Pinot, so I'm in.

I live in Santa Cruz and I am somewhat familiar with the local wineries, and I have never heard of this one.

I did find it listed as a Santa Cruz winery here:

I honestly can't remember whether I tasted these wines at the winery last year or not. My overall impression, though, was that the wines were way overpriced - making the woot price about fair - and that many/most were high alcohol and quite hot.

2013: 33 bottles. Last wine.woot: Diamond Ridge Cab Franc. Last split: Scott Harvey Barbera
2012: 91 bottles, 2011: 92 bottles, 2010: 74 bottles, 2009: 30 bottles, 2008: 3 bottles My CT

Ty Caton's winery is technically in an industrial storage space in Sonoma. Right next to a small plane airport.

Hi, Marni Rubin, Sales Manager at Domenico Wines here. The grapes for the SCM Chard and Pinot come from the Santa Cruz Mountains - Domenico is also part of the Santa Cruz Mountains Growers Association. All wines are made at our 24,000 sq. ft winery and tasting room in San Carlos, CA.
Dominick Chirichillo (Domenico owner and winemaker) is at the vineyards he owns in Amador County right now, but he hopes to get on the boards soon!

Our specialty at Domenico is Italian varietals grown in California, like Barbera, Primitivo, Nebbiolo, and others, but we also produce award-winning Pinots, Chards, Cabernets, Meritages, etc. from Santa Cruz Mountains, Napa Valley, and many other regions.

They are definitely worth the price on this offer: retail for a lot higher, and grapes being from Santa Cruz Mountains, they have fresh acidity and are really varietally correct and tasty - great for every day drinking, but also for your next dinner party with friends.

Thanks, Scott. Our grapes come from all over, from SCM to Amador, but in the hands of our winemaker Dominick, the wines turn out great. Domenico Wines have one over 300 awards in national competitions. Hope you enjoy the wines!

Great comments - thanks! Dominick, our winemaker, sources a lot of his fruit from Amador County, where he also owns his own Primitivo and Syrah vineyards. He has long-standing relationships with growers in Santa Cruz Mountains too, including Devrey Vineyards on Mount Madonna and others. He takes only the best fruit and doesn't buy every year if the fruit isn't up to par.

Hi Dominick here winemaker from Domenico winery, the 2007 Pinot is a great wine with food, slightly tart with flavors of cranberry, cherry, some barrel spice. Buy some and enjoy.

I went in on the last Domenico offering (Zins and Barberas?) and I was pleasantly suprised by the QPR. After my barbera had time to open up it was very wonderful.

I would be in for this, but I dislike Chard and am a PN snob and only like my PN from OR.

CT Updating, please wait....
