Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Glasses ABSOLUTELY make a difference.

We have a nice selection of Riedel glasses, mostly from various tastings we have attended. However, I think many of the places where I eat have only one set of glasses for wine, used universally for reds or whites. That glass that is on the table before you sit and removed if you don't order wine.

While I'm normally not so inclined to care about fancy, I do prefer to drink wine out of wine glasses and nothing else. It just feels weird trying to drink wine from a normal tall glass (or mason jar). I think it definitely has an effect on the palette if you drink from anything but glass.
Plastic cups = no way.
Straight from barrel = if I ever get the chance.

Generally we try to use appropriate stemware (we have a separate set for whites and reds, and then a few varietal-specific glasses as well).

Although there is a local Greek restaurant that serves its wines (generally chilled whites) in small table glasses, and this works well enough for what they're serving, and even seems appropriate on a hot day.

Even with inexpensive wines, the kind of glass you use absolutely makes a difference.

Indeed, the Mason jars with a handle are particularly well suited for the Jelly Jar Zin.

A prude? What if I'm drinking naked?

Did this a few nights ago. I was drinking a glass of wine and the wife said she wanted to go on a walk. Can't bring alcohol on a walk down the street, so I poured it into Toby Keith's Red Solo Cup.

Yeah.... I couldn't do this unless there was no other possible way. Solo cups are on par with straight from the bottle for me. I have a nice set of bordeaux and burgundy stemware that I thoroughly enjoy. I may not always be varietally correct but having a thin walled large bowl glass makes everything else seem muted. At restaurants I so often see them pour small glasses full and I miss getting to swirl the wine. Wine is more than just a flavor. It is a color and a smell and the glasses bring that out. I'll accept being a snob but I enjoy my wine to the fullest.

Sadly, most of those glasses at restaurants are rolled rim glasses.

If it were a nice red it would a different story, this was an inexpensive fru fru Bug Juice Moscato that probably deserved a red solo cup

I can deal with rolled rims but I have a strong dislike for glasses without thin walls/rims.
