Any idea on where this falls on the cab franc spectrum? Is it all cigarettes and barnyard floor mixed with bell peppers?

I'm of course very interested . . . . but am in NM now and it will be 90 degrees plus until October.

Any way to delay shipping on orders? Heck, I'll pay extra for Peter to hold my shipment until fall.

I'm in on the Port, since it was I who asked Peter for it. Thanks to both of you for making it happen.

Where in NM are you? I am in Albuquerque, let me know if you want to split future offers.

And Peter, what is the drinking window on both the 2003 and the 2006 Ports? Do you see either of these getting any better with age?

I am liking these side deals and the $5 all you can ship so far. Both the port and the cab franc are on its way.
Thanks Woot and Peter.

"Better" is such a loaded word. They will evolve. If you like softer, with more aged character and secondary aromas, yes. If you like bold and fruity, no. These won't spoil, they'll just change. For those who like aged vintage Port, hang on to them as long as tou like. Our 1992 is still beautiful, and a long way from resembling a tawny Port.

Aromatically, this is true to type for my Cabernet Franc reference point, which is Chinon: blackberry and blackcurrant fruit with notes of anise (licorice like), sage and violets. There aren't any of the green aromas that sometimes show up in California CF. It is full bodied and chewy with the rustic tannins typical of CF. (CS tannins tend to be smoother and more refined than CF).

Was in the tasting room on Saturday and tasted this Cab Franc, it's delicious, though of course that's not much of a surprise. I did get a tiny bit of the green pepper notes, despite what Peter says, though it's certainly not an over-green bell-pepper-bomb.

I thought it was really nice, complex and well balanced for a Cab Franc which can be sort of one-dimensional, I bought a bottle at the winery, might go in for a couple more at this discount.

Can someone enlighten me about proper storage of port once opened? And shelf-life, once opened?

It's been a long time since I had port at home, and in the interim I have become more serious about wine in general. Putting a cork in the bottle and leaving it on the shelf for months might have been adequate for me in the past, but what's the correct thing to do?

I'm intrigued by the Wellington ports, but know it will take me a while to get through a bottle.

Nice to hear from you. It's been a while. Sorry you won't be sharing this kind of wisdom on the tour this time. Enjoy the beer festival.

Hmm.. I feel like adding CT links somewhere. Would it make sense to start a new thread for each woot plus deal. Like this week make one for Wellington and one for Stewart and have all the various offers with links inside. Will the plus deals ever have their own forum thread in the future?

If you are feeling that industrious, I'd say make a forum topic for each w+ winery and then when they get around to adding a w+ tab they can move them there.

With refrigerated shipping, I'm sure the Woot leg of the trip is all good. But I can't use a business address and that means probably a day on a local truck in the heat. With FedEx I can re-route to a local store, but UPS holds the package hostage until (a) a delivery attempt or (b) you pony up for premium service.

Or, you could just add them in to this thread when they show up on the front page so that the related discussion happens after your CT links.

A month - no. Young ports will last a week or two open and still be quite enjoyable. It's 500ml (2/3 of a "regular" bottle) - about four glasses, or six small ones. It'll stay fresher in the fridge, but you should let it warm up before drinking.

I have one toe still on the fence, but I'm about to tip over and buy all four of the Wellington offerings - they all look great.

Peter, can you share the drinking window for the Zinfandels? And I guess for the whites as well, while you're at it?

The Estate Zin is the most ageworthy - probably another five years if you must. I would drink the other two within the next couple of years. The whites are also best within the next year or two.
I know you didn't ask, but the Cab Franc could last another 5 to 10 years and the ports will last virtually forever (they will, of course, change a lot).

Toby just returned my call as well and concurs wrt the CF, but added if you're going to pop one in the near future, air it out a couple of hours.

Yes, busted my "new woot" boycott already with two woots each CF and ports after Peter hopped on and Toby's call.

Not well. The "Wellington" link takes you to Stewart as well. Probably because you copied but forgot to change it.

Hmm. Woot Plus deals are multi day offerings. If they do add in a discussion thread for each deal, could we then bring back the lab rat program for these?

More generally, I miss the days when we had the time to discuss the offer, debate with the winemaker, have labrats chime in, and generally create a community. With a deal a day, it simply doesn't happen.

It may be due to my lack of participation, but how many winemakers recently has the wine woot community formed a bond with? All the winemakers I can think of come from "earlier" times: Peter Wellington, Roessler, Scott Harvey, Cathy Corison, Twisted Oak, Joy from Iron Horse, Pedroncelli...

Anybody new?

Oh hey.
I actually keep track of these things. Over the years we have had hundreds of winery representatives and company representatives (by which I mean various candy makers, etc.) participating in our forums. Some you see more often than others, of course, and I imagine there are a lot of factors in play.

I always learn so much when our winery reps come by and am glad the community makes them feel welcome to hang out even when it isn't "their winery" up for offer.

I'm just hanging out, really.

I'm really hoping to get some of the 2003's in the 2003 *%#&@! Red Rhone Blends.
