I only ask because the appeal of these types of sites to me is not having to go through 20 items to find one I might be interested in. These new changse just make this "yet another discount retail site" where I'm inundated with too much crap. Groupon, LivingSocial, and Amazon already do enough of that.

Alas, this is the end for me here. But I do love buying wine. I've just been a wine.woot loyalist for so long, I don't know any other great places to try.

Way too much stuff!! I have been a wooter for quite a while and bought lots of wine based on the easy direct focused discussion re: the single offering. I also have received quite a wine education through the conversation process. This new page dilutes and distracts rather than enhancing the wine buying process.
This new site diffuses and confuses the offering by making lots & lots of offers ala oh so many other sites (Amazon for one).
My wine buying from woot has already slowed down resulting from the changes being made after the sale of woot and I think I will drop into "observer" mode through the summer to see what happens with the "new" look/business model.
Overall I think this new page means that the old woot is officially dead and it is now just another business.
For doing the business of wine, I can go to Costco/Trader Joe's or the local wine shop.
Woot was a unique - now it isn't.

This Winter's Hill offering would have been very attractive, but it'd have to be a much deeper discount to outweigh what still feels to me like serious risk, given my ongoing experience of wine sitting in Reno or wherever while the temps soar.

hang in there. we've gotten really good at shipping wine at all times of the year, including summer. if it somehow comes in all whacky (leaking) - we'll be sure to send a replacement.

Really the new site is not that hard to figure out.. and I don't give a bucket of chum what the new site looks like as long as the great deals keep coming!

Yeah, so about these Oregon PN's...anybody have information? I've been wanting to expand my PN experience to Oregon, but so far have only had a few sips here and there plus 2 bottles of Roessler Laurelwood. Would these be a good way to get a solid handle on a typical Oregon PN? Where on the new-old world scale are these? Where in the general quality scale are these? I'm hopeful in that the winemaker and owners spent a lot of time in France, but need more info before pulling the trigger.

2013: 35 bottles. Last wine.woot: Diamond Ridge Cab Franc. Last split: R. Merlo Pinot Noir
2012: 91 bottles, 2011: 92 bottles, 2010: 74 bottles, 2009: 30 bottles, 2008: 3 bottles My CT

Dude! How many times does WD have to tell you? Summer shipping is in effect and your wine will be fine. And if it isn't, the problem will be resolved; I can personally attest to this fact, as I know many others here can.

I don't get all the complaints at all. I'm adverse to change, particularly when it involves my computer, iPad, iPhone, etc. Other than a few slight differences I had to figure out (and if I can figure them out - c'mon folks) I think the changes are for the better. Ignore the complaints. Some people are, shockingly, more adverse to change than I am.

And, thanks to the reminders about summer shipping, I am in for 1. Have to give this a try.

I look at my favorite sites every morning on my phone, and usually buy on my phone. This is looking waaaaay too busy for the small screen.

I've never been disappointed in a Willamette Valley PN. Go ahead and pull the trigger, and if you don't like the first bottle you open, bring the other 2 to Sonoma in July, and I'll take them off your hands. How's that for confidence?

After seeing this on here today, I just drove out to the Winter's Hill tasting room for the first time today. The scenery was nice, but it was closed, on Memorial Day weekend, when the others around there were making a special effort to show their wines.

That was disappointing.

However, their neighbors make some truly fantastic wine, which we bought, and we met the fantastic winemaker of a 96 point (as rated by Wine Advocate) 2011 Pinot Noir.

In for one as a crapshoot because if this winery is even half-way competent, the wine will be ok for the price, but really both this thread and the closed tasting room have been of minimal help on making a decision today.

MarkDaSpark wrote:His Ports are excellent. You won't be disappointed in them. I've never been, and the price is right. I haven't had his Cab Franc, but I would think it would be good.

I ordered 2 sets of the Port, and then one of the Aprons off the Shirt.Woot special. The Apron got free shipping.

Sadly, my $5 Woot! coupon didn't seem to work. Hopefully it will once the shipping goes back to normal.

Edit: Plus, the bottles are 500ml and not the smaller 375ml, so you get more.

Thanks for the reply i noticed last night you had been the first to buy the Ports so i was hoping to get some thoughts from you lol.

Now to decide if i want the Franc or Port. Hm.

Yeah, agreed, it's waaay too busy.
However no way you're gonna get winery and group chatter at Costco or TJ's, just not gonna happen.

Despite the changes, and we can hope they work out, this is still a very unique venue.

Well, "Dude" - I'm happy for you that this is satisfying to you. At the moment, it isn't to me.

And unless you have something to add to the discussion besides the snark ... well ...

Order with abandon. I'm tickled pink for you, really I am.

But I have $126 worth of wine unaccounted for since it was first shipped on the 24th, which had been its expected delivery date. Since that time, it's been sitting in Reno. It hit 90 degrees here again today.

Please note: that's $126 of my money, not yours - dude. So bite me.

Each winery has different states that are approved as they need to follow different laws for each state.

liverman wrote:Sorry to drag the conversation back to wine...specifically this wine...

Does anyone else have some experience with this winery and these wines? Or any general comments regarding pinots from Washington/Oregon vs. Calfornia.

Trying to figure if I want to plunk $23+/bottle for this juice.

Thanks!!

In my opinion, in the $10-100 class it's basically Oregon > Washington > California. In the under $10 class and the over $100 class it is really a crapshoot, they're all pretty close in quality.

It also depends what you look for in your wine. I find CA Pinot Noir to be a bit too tangy or earthy (depending on the vineyard). OR and WA pinots tend to be, for me, more balanced and flavorful (my guess would be because of the volume of rain)...

(also fair warning, I live in Oregon so I might have a little bias, but this is also based on being focused on pinots for the past year)

I am not familiar with Winter's Hill, but the Dundee region has produced some of my favorite Pinots. Sokol Blosser, for example, which has been on here, is excellent.

Agreed. It may be my imagination, but it seems to me I could get far more information about an offering on the first or second "page" than I can now.

I'm not being snarky; I'm giving you information. If your order arrives cooked, email service and they'll fix it -- like I said.

Outside of that, posting over and over again about how you're concerned about the summer shipping is annoying. WD has told you multiple times, and said again in this thread, that he's got it covered. Posting constantly isn't going to change the answer. And if WD doesn't have it covered, see above. Order or don't but enough about how you don't want to risk the shipping, in spite of WD's and other's reassurances.

Oregon Pinot Noir is the best. Period. Paragraph. Second best is the Russian River Valley in No Cal. Washington isn't even on the radar for Pinot Noir.

Not that it's any of your business, but those "assurances" haven't answered any of my questions.

And your post offered me NO information whatsoever, because you simply have none to offer.
