Maaaan, I just bought that 5 pack of 99's that was on the Woot-off. Now that I see this, I'm starting to question whether I should have just waited. A brotha can't win.

Drinking window 2014 - 2016. Why must we wait so long? It's already going on 6 with 2 in the bottle.

Scott...is this the one we tasted at your place back in February? Or was that the 2009? If it's not the same one, how does this compare?
Thanks!

On the winery website it doesn't show the 06, but they have the 05 and 07 for $60 bucks a bottle. If thats the real deal thats a screaming great deal for 3!!!
Besides that has anyone tried the other vintages?

It was the '09 Arcturus back in Feb. I have a photo from it.

Scott - Is the bottling date correct? Over 3 years in oak?

Alas, no shipping to Maryland, although we've had direct shipping for going on three years.

Pity.

Actually, it's not even one year yet.

It's still up to wineries to decide to license each state.

39 bones a piece at the old Wine Mine, so still a pretty legit bargain.

i wonder how this compares to the jana cathedral offered last year. there is no cab franc in this wine, so i may have to think about it. i love scott's zins, so i may have to take the plunge and trust that it will be great.

usually six years from vintage is a good time to drink most cabs, but this isn't 100% cab. some blends, like bordeaux, take longer to age...but i'm sure there's a more meaningful explanation.

14 isn't that far away and some of us prefer our cabs with a fair amount of dust on the bottle, but with a pH of 3.76, & 14.5% alcohol I'm inclined to think that window might be a bit of optimism wrt longevity. Hopefully we'll hear from the winery or Scott as to why that's not the case.

Napa Cab from Atlas Peak, slightly aged and made by the hand of Scott Harvey, all for only $20. This sounds like a serious no brainer to me unless I am missing something here.

I still have some of the '03 I picked up directly from the winery; last time I drank one was about a year ago, and it still had plenty of aging potential. If the '06 is half as good, it will be well worth the wait. Atlas Peak fruit + Scott Harvey's expertise = autobuy for me.

I live in CT near the NY state border and have been dying to try some of Scott Harvey's wines.

I have been toying with having the wine delivered to a Fed Ex location just over the line in New York.

This has been discussed in the past. Can someone explain how I go about doing this?

Thanks!

Is it broke or just fractured?

Check your private mail here at woot. and "enjoy" some S.Harvey wine.
They don't ship into NH anymore so I am SOL. sigh. Not sure why as many other wineries still do. Ah well.

I went in for 2 - and look fwd to laying these down for a couple of years.

Just went back to the thread on the '99 version from the woot-off and saw the extra discussion. Do I have it right that Scott was not involved with the '99 as the description seemed to say? That was pretty much the reason I bought it, so not sure how I feel about that.

Anyway, I feel great about this one!

This should clarify that for you:

ScottHarveyWines wrote:Great to be back on Woot. Even though this wine got a great score from Wine Spectator and I'd like to take credit for making it, it was produced before I started making wine for Astrale e Terra. Laube gave this wine a 12 year drinking window, so it is at its prime and ready to drink now showing great bottle bouquet.
[That's the '99]

I jumped on that as soon as I saw it, and I'm sure I'll be happy with it, since I know how my taste correlates with his, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing what Scott has to say about this one, once he wakes up.

I skipped the screaming monkeys at the end of the woot-off so I could wait for something more appropriate to get my black square. Scott Harvey is that something.

100 woots without a job? Just think how many you would have bought with a job. My guess is that you also need to invite alot of people over to help you drink some of that wine!

From Wine Enthusiast: 85 points, $50 retail

"Pretty good for a cabernet, with rich blackberry and cherry flavors and a rich overlay of smoky oak. Loses steam with some overripe raisins and an overly soft texture. Drink now."

For what it is worth the '04, which I think is generally considered a better vintage in Napa, rated an 82.

I think the operative advice is drink now.

1. Is the cathedral cab sourced from atlas peak?
2. Was 2006 a good year for napa wines?
3. What are the characteristics of atlas peak cabs? I love howell mountain cabs for their sweet fruit characterisitics. How does this ava compare?

Thanks! I usually drink sonoma wines and napa sauv blancs and some zins but not too familiar with cabs

If those were 100 wine woots, you probably need to start building a very large cellar.

Scott, can you share some of the production details on this wine? I noticed that its a 2006 and wasn't bottled until June 2010, thats a lot of barrel aging. What was the 'oakage' on this, for a lack of a better term?

Any RS in this?

A rating is just a number from one person, and is based solely on that person's palate. I put zero faith in them, but to each his own. I, on the other hand, put a lot of faith in Scott Harvey and he would not put his name on something that was subpar.

Great to be back again. This time I'm not on the side of the road with a tablet, but at home. This is the wine we drank in my cellar. I started consulting for Astrale e Terra in early 2007. I did not ferment this wine but did everything else. This wine is drinkable now, but will hold till 2018. I think it's best drinking window will be between 2014 and 2018. But, I like wines with bottle bouquet. Unlike the 1999 Arcturus, this wine is not showing hardly any bouquet yet.

Looks like '06 was a down year for Napa Cabs.

Yes the bottling date is correct. High elevation wines, Atlas Peak growing region is 1,800 ft, all have big iron like tannins and they need an extra year in barrel to soften down.

The difference between this and the Cathedral is the difference between valley floor and mountain fruit. The valley fruit is more lush with softer tannins while the mountain fruit is leaner with harder tannins. I enjoy both styles. The mountain fruit allows the Cabernet varietal character to be more obvious. The mountain flavors are brighter and lend themselves well to a nice juicy steak or tri tip.
