Wine corks spend most of their lives learning how to go into bottles, so they never really learn how to go out. When one of them stumbles on the opening, they crawl right inside of the cage. Once they are inside, though, they can't seem to find the way out. The exception is younger corks who are small enough to leave the opening easily, because you want to let them grow into an adult cork before capturing them.

If you look at the blown up picture, there is a small handle at the bottom, which is probably there to open some sort of door or something at the bottle of the "bottle". That is what it has to be for, as I see no other use for it.

Also not much of a deal because it probably costs someone in some 3rd world country $.10 to make this kitschy crap.

I have a friend who collects wine corks - the only person I know who does. His collection is much larger then this will hold- it's occupying the bed of an antique pickup truck.

I think this comes at a good time. My boyfriend and I went on a trip and he saved our first cork. He said his parents and grandparents have a tradition of saving off their corks after writting down the event and date on the cork. They then ship it off and to have all the corks lined up in one big frame. I thought that was so cool. So now we begin that tradition.

Have all these corks been found guilty of a crime, or is this a case of administrative detention?

Who gets to keep them when you break up? Do you write all that stuff on the cork? Or develop some kind of spreadsheet to keep track of your cork collection. I'm just wonderin' out loud here...

Just think, it'll help you prepare for your next big project!
From "Natural Home & Garden" magazine
"Wine Cork Floor

...A less expensive way to go for cork is to cover your floor in wine corks. Hold a few wine-tasting parties and enlist an army of oenophiles to help you collect corks. ...Treat them like tiles and lay them lengthwise in an undulating wave like Phoenix Commotion .... You’ll need around 72 corks per square foot, which shouldn’t cost you a dime.

And I thought I was a little crazy for keeping wine corks in a little container on top of the fridge until I figured out a use for them...

What the heck, I think I'll like this thing. The colored "plastic" corks mixed in adds a nice variety to the wood corks.

queenangelfish wrote:I am wondering the same thing. How do you get them out?

As North316 mentioned, there is a door that slides up at the bottom. It's hard to make out in the woot! photo, but the door is up and corks are "spilling" out.

Next time your kid wants to make a paper mache volcano, toss them this and have them use it as a frame. Way less time and mess and no baking soda explosion. Just be busy on parent-teacher conference day.

Delivered today via Amazon prime. This thing is really large. Put the corks I have saved so far (around 30 of them), only covered two inches from bottom. Looks like it will take a lifetime to fill this up.

Still a GO!

Technically, it was Fulfillment by Amazon. We have our vendors deliver the items to various warehouses from which the items are shipped. One of the improvements to speed up shipping.

Glad you got it so quickly!
