I would not bother. Find somewhere local with something similar for the same price. You live in the trendiest city on earth and local food is trendy. your'e good to go.

Ah from trendy to morally bankrupt. Still, I bet there are very good local choices

Naturally that was from the contractor I really liked. If he wants to throw in a nice gunnite pool it might be reasonable...
does the deck have a stripper pole and are the strippers included for that price? That's outrageous. Is he coating the planks in gold?
Are you using sequoia planks and nails forged with the steam from Condor tears?

You could get a roof deck, built by union labor, in Manhattan for $120/sqft...
Seriously though, what kind of material? And is it a ground level deck or upper story?

So it's never going to be inexpensive, but FU that's WAY too much. You really don't want $10/hr day labor building this stuff, but I don't single-handedly need to buy the guy a new truck!
I've got a quote from another contractor for $60/sqft. As obscene as that seems, it's what I expected and budgeted. Unfortunately this guy argued with me about basic no-brainer stuff like using stainless screws in the Ipe (not to mention in a marine environment), and only wanted to work up a quote from drawings. It would be a huge mistake to hire a contractor you already don't trust...
I've called moar contractors to get moar quotes, hopefully one won't set off my BS meter but will come in only overcharging me by an amount that I can stomach.
Nice, contractors can be stupid. My mom hired a company and the rebel scum quoted them a sunroom at way under everyone else. they took the bid, then he was like, um, we forgot to build HEIGHT into the contract so we have to redo it. I told they guy, no, you sent a quote, they accepted it, you signed the contract, now build the Nooooooooer. Then he Nooooooooed the subs, stole 300k from the company and split for Seattle. Happily the owners settled with the subs and it wasn't my Mom's problem.
