As I recently commented to someone else on this very forum (^), this makes an excellent popcorn wine. But not much more.

Does this need gourmet popcorn or is the old fashioned Orvil Redinbocker hot air popcorn adequate?
;)

i bought these on a past woot! offering.
didn't really know what to expect since so many people were saying it was a dry gewurzt, but don't be scared it's not that dry.
i actually think they are pretty sweet, as sweet as i would expect a nice gewurzt to be. my bf's mom, who usually drinks white zin (gasp) surprising liked this wine.

i think it's delicious, crisp, a bit sweet, and smooth : )

Liked the Meeker rose I got for serving at Christmas, drink Geuwertz like a fish, in for one!

I love this with some Rosemary and Romano buttered popcorn!

the comments from people having consumed the wine have me worried (in the community forum from the previous offering). i have been happy with the meeker wines i have bought (reds and rose)...

Picked this up the last time around, and am so happy that it's here again! It's really a "drink now" wine (or so a little birdie told me), and seeing that I'm short on white wine...this fits the bill for the ensuing summer months ahead here in Northern Cali.

I found this to be dry and refreshing...in for 2!

Honestly, I don't ever recall having a Gewürztraminer (I'm not a particularly huge white wine drinker) but the wikipedia page said something about a bouquet of lychees! Including shipping each bottle is only $7.50, which is as much as buying wine from the gas station next to my boyfriend's apartment. I might just have to buy this.

Twist off... isn't that a bad sign?

Ok, I fibbed...couldn't help myself...in for 3! Now my wine fridge will be happy for the next few months!

In the last offering the winery said it should last a few years but he didn't have anything to compare it to in order to be sure. To be safe, I'd only buy if are going to 'drink now.'

Not at all. They are better for the environment, have cost savings and are good for cellarring wines. Their only downfall is they lack the romance of a cork.

In yesterdays offering, someone posted a link to a great article about twist vs. cork. I'll try to find it and post it here for you.

No, it is not a bad sign at all.

I also bought these last time and found it to be enjoyable especially with fish and other seafood. And I concur that this is a ready-to-drink wine, perfect timing for the upcoming summer months.

Sorry, it was two days ago... (well now 3 since it's now Wednesday.)

Here's the post:

They store well, they age well, they're sustainable (if you care), and no corkscrew needed!

Have to agree. I hopped on the last offer thinking a chance to try out a local Gewurtz from a cooler part of NorCal would be worth a try. Not really what I had hoped. Pretty much a straight-up drink it now, don't really need to save it, unless popcorn wine is your idea of a special occasion (hey, it depends on the popcorn, right?).

A less expensive offering, but since I'm currently jobless, all I have to say is...THANK GOD NH ISN'T ON THE LIST.

OTOH, I think I really would have liked this one. Gewürztraminers' tend to be a little too sweet for me, but a dryer one like this....

I tend to find that Gewürztraminer is always a crowd pleaser with my non-wino friends. Always a hit to break out at the neighborhood block party when the last embers on the grill are dying away. I'm in for one at this price.

Dangit. I'd be in for at least two - I always buy Meeker. How does this offering not ship to Kansas? Their last Cab offering did.

I really didn't like this wine. It tasted more like grapefruit juice than a gewurztraminer to me. The citrus notes were overwhelming. Of the 5 people who tried it, none of us liked it.

We enjoyed this wine when we got it last time - it's straight-forward and a nice drink for the price. In for 2.

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

Great, great easy sipper for the price. Bought 1 last time and finished it within the week. Won't make the same mistake this time.

With two toddlers in the house, any night we get them to bed early enough so that we can actually make and enjoy popcorn is a special occasion.

I had this wine at the Meeker tasting room with some fellow wooters and we all enjoyed it. I ended up taking a bottle home with me! This wine is completely dry but has a perception of sweetness due to the floral aroma. It also has great complexity for it's pricepoint.

This is a very good Meeker offering as noted in my CT tasting notes under user name "BlackIce". You cannot beat the price for this quality.

Meeker does quality wines. I have some Alsatian gewürz enroute, so it's just one this time. And I HAVE TO enlarge the cellar :-)

Greg

Understood. Not knocking your situation, just pointing out to wooters that this wine doesn't have the long-term hold potential that winery expounds, nor does it go beyond a pleasant accompaniment to popcorn or potato chips. It won't hold up to much more than that; it's a drinker not a keeper, imo.

Bought a case of this and have both gifted a couple of bottles, and consumed a couple of bottles. Overall, especially for the price, it's very tasty. Good Mendocino/Italian style Gewurtz!

Ok, I posted this a few weeks ago after my group's weekly wine tasting. We had this during our Gewurztraminer tasting and it was badly faulted. Not only did this one smell quite like diesel fuel (not in a good Mosel way) but it was oxidized. I'd have given it a pass as a bad bottle but the one I had first was very much the same way. And, another I had was leaking and the screw cap and capsule just spins without coming off.

I really wanted to like this one due to other comments. I even contacted Woot support on April 18th asking them to look into it and have heard no reply.

Again, I'm not the complete expert. But, I have a tasting group with a bunch of winemakers, winemaking students and sommeliers and we all felt the same. Out of 8 bottles I purchased, the 3 I opened have been bad.

It sounds like there were some bad cases.

I gifted a couple of bottles, and consumed a couple of bottles with friends. So far, everyone that tried it, enjoyed it.

That's unfortunate, Josh. Ouch.

I think my bottles arrived in very good condition and I just went to check the remaining ones and none had any leaks.

I just had a bottle tonight with my neighbor, who is a Le Cordon Bleu (the French one, not the associated ones) trained chef. She made some cod dish and invited me over, and I took it (since it's the only white I had chilled). I was worried at first, knowing her, but she thought it was immensely drinkable for food. Not a big or fancy wine, she noted, but highly enjoyable.

Neither of us smelled diesel. More like pears. I think something must have happened during shipping...so sorry to hear.

I will say, we were quite bummed. We had hopes for this being a good, easy drinking entry for some who had never had (much) Gewurztraminer. I still hold out hope for the other bottles.
