Around 60.
I figured i'll keep enough around that if I opened 1 bottle per week for a year without buying more I could easily clear out my cellar.

Plus my fridge is small and i live in a small warm house in Socal.

About 100 bottles, I guess. I should probably start drinking more wine so as to keep the stock rotating, but that would cut into the time I spend drinking liquor.

Usually a bottle for each, otherwise it's just plain cumbersome.

answer c? A wine emergency? I'd love to see that situation.

About a half dozen each of reds and whites. More would age too quickly in the South Florida weather. Less wouldn't give me much of a selection. This way I buy some once a month, when I can get a bargain. Next home will have a small built-in cellar and I can keep more - a few dozen each.

I guess I should've said "unexpected company" or something similar.

Wow I just assumed everyone had 200 to 400 bottles laying around After updating ct 385 less a couple of cases out there somewhere.

Yeah. I'm surprised by the low numbers. Sparky has I over 1,000, I know. And HAK is stacked, like he posted. Doc O has a lot, I know.

I'm a bit surprised as well and pending the CT update of locations, as I'm moving into an additional offsite locker, I'm thinking I'll end up with about a 50/50 split of ~600 at +/-100 at each the two, onsite/offsite locations. Onsite I've got the large, long term ~450 box in the garage, a ~160 in the house for near term, and a 26 and 12 for the emergency and in progress bottles.

I think I need an intervention/consumption party down here.

We seem to always have something in the 60-90 range now that I've developed a regular WW habit.

If we had a basement and/or real cellar, that number would likely be higher!

i can hold, 2, maybe 3 bottles per hand, so at the most maybe 6 at a time? any more than that it's kinda heavy...

but...

at home i probably have around 100 bottles... still haven't found a good place for easy access/offsite storage in dc... otherwise i'd like to keep maybe 30/40 bottles at home and rest in storage...

still have about 200 bottles sitting in storage back in california, although my stash is nowhere close to a college friend of mine who dropped by dc this week for dinner... i think my folks (who were also in town) wanted to show me that i have a wine hoarding problem asked my buddy about the size of his wine collection, and he casually answered...

'oh, i have about 1000 cases so that'd be around 12000 bottles.'

Interesting to see these answers. Currently, I have about 170 bottles in the basement. Of those, about 20 or so are "birth year" wines for my daughter, so they aren't going anywhere anytime soon (plus I'll probably pick up some '10's for the other daughter). I keep trying to drink my stash down to a reasonable level (60-80 bottles), but it's too darn easy to make a couple of clicks and wind up with another case or two on the way.

Somewhere between 375 and 425. I need to be better with CT, but I just go by how many spots I have open since I am near capacity between the cabinet and 2 fridges.

About 140 currently, way more than I ever expected to have. I'm hoping to make that a few less bottles this weekend. Going to see how well wine pairs with Modern Warfare 3.

We've kept around 5 or 6 cases on hand for the last year or so. At some point in the future that number will increase significantly, but for now, since it is just me and SWMBO and we're in an apartment that has limited space, 60-70 bottles is it.

I am at about 750 bottles, not counting in transit/on order. That is just past capacity in my wine cellar, as I have a couple of cases in the middle of the floor. So I am trying to be very selective on buying to drink more than buy.

This woot place has sure changed my habits. I used to keep three or four bottles on hand, but now I have three-oh-four. Drinking two bottles a week, I can weather the coming storm of higher prices mentioned in another thread.
