“In the entire world there are only a few sounds that bring joy to all but the most jaded. One is the murmur of a kitten purring. Another is the thwack of a well-pitched baseball hitting a perfectly swung bat. And the third is the pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle of wine.” —George Taber

Great price for a 3-pack of cab for me... hoping for some decent reviews.

EDIT: On second thought, this reviewer seems to have found it for $12.95, meaning a tasting from your local wine store may be a better bargain.

That review was done in 2010, the current price is probably higher by now. She also had 'NOW' as the time to drink it. Would it still have some time left in it's drinking window?

Don't get too hung up on "drinking windows". A cab like this is not suddenly going to drop dead after a couple of years. That said, the reviews for other vintages seem kind of meh, making this a pass @ $13 a bottle.

Short list...only 18 states plus DC. I'm out.

Wow, no shipping to NY, that's rare.

Not a problem for me, was going to pass anyway.

Wonder why WD would choose to put an offer up with so few states. I would think they would have a minimum list size which would be larger than this.

I have noticed that most of the Saturday international offerings have a very short ship to list. I would imagine that this was the primary reason why these wines were not offered in the past and the reason they may not be offered in the future. Looking back through the Saturday offers over the last few months the woots sold are generally pretty low.

This is a nice experiment and many around here enjoy the variety but it may not be sustainable in its current form. There are two major issues at play here; the first and most obvious being that the international offerings are often limited to just a third of the country, the other issue is simply educational. I suspect that many wooters are unfamiliar with some of the types of wines offered on Saturdays (as am I) by type and region.

Thoughts?

Forgetting your second point , which I also consider to be somewhat valid, the fact you are limiting so little of the country to the offering I am not sure the reason behind these Saturday offerings or the soundness of the business model. And as much as I love wine.woot and the community which resides here it is a business after all.

Perhaps someone from Woot will chime in. and yes you can tell I am not on the shipping list (Illinois).

in short - shipping laws for import wines are an entirely different ballgame per state than the shipping rules and regulations for US wineries. complicated.

As for this offering, I have not tried this particular bottle, but in general Argentine Cabernet is a fantastic bang-for-your-buck and often overlooked due to the wild success of the beloved Malbec grape.

I suspect Saturday's are probably the slowest sales day of the week for wine.woot. Being a slow day, they may purchase small lots of international wines to fill to void of slow Saturdays, and having a small ship to list fits with the low volume approach.

I could be completely wrong, but I'm sure WD has a reason. Right?

(I am going to repeat everyone else...LOL)

I am surprised that IL isn't on the list. This is the first time I have seen it not on the list.

On that note, I don't really want it anyway :p
