Found a bottle of wine from my Wedding at the in laws house. Knowing they don't have a clue about wine storage and also knowing it was a short term drinker to begin with made me hesitant. It was awful. Took a couple of sips from the glass I poured with dinner and left it.

Thankfully my FIL gave the rest of the bottle to take home.

Over the weekend, had:

2009 Rasa Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Plus One Kiona Vineyard

2007 Wellington Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Karren Vineyard

2009 Barrel 27 Wine Company High On The Hog

Tonight, we'll finish up the Barrell 27 and the Wellington Cab, both of which were excellent. The Rasa was also very good, but expected a little more. Thinking I hyped it up a little too much in my head after having their more affordable second label offerings from PB Wines. I'll probably still buy this cab in the upcoming futures release in May, but probably not as many as previously thought.

Mentioned it in a previous post, but the 2011 Apsara Las Madres Syrah I had on Friday was outstanding. Will be ordering more of these and am looking forward to their next release to buy up some more! Mouth watering, juicy black and blue fruits. Has that definitive Las Madres olive note along with a long, rounded finish. Fruits were front and center but in no way over the top, no big over extracted flavors, just perfect. Thought this would need a good amount of air to get going but I was wrong. Great from PnP, though everything really smoothed out and was ready to go a little less than an hour in. This stuff is drinking great, still thinking about it today.

It will be a nice daily drinker, delivered more than I expected. Wish I had picked up more during the Cindy sale. I'm going to have to walk in, hat in hand, and see if I can maybe eek a half case out of them at about the same price. Wife loved it, so even if they won't, will need to pick up a few at regular price, which is also a steal (~$14?)

Oriel Dylan Chardonnay. $10 from LastBottle.

Decent for the $10 price. Fresh with medium acid. Just slight butteriness, but not overdone. 88?

Last night, had a 2010 Hardin Cab. Super QPR at ~$20 from WL. Lots of red fruit, smooth entry and very nice length on the finish. No formal notes taken. Very easy week day drinker, will stock up on some more. My wife loved it, so it gets an extra gold star.

Last glass of 2008 Saxon brown zin

This bottle finally showed me what Saxon brown was all about. Really a very good quality zin that I would have no issue paying $20-$15 for

Last half of Page cellars preface 2008 cab

Notes:

Color: red purple tending to purple, deeply hued, no visible sediment

Nose: medium to light. Mint, marzipan, sweet Rainier Cherry, Oak/vanilla (both)

Pallet: good concentration. Dark red to black fruits, significant chocolate oak, balancing acidity in a modern style. Light chalky tannins and a decent length finish.

Overall: good New World cab, drink within five years if you want any tannin. This may lose punch after that. $25ish

Last purchase: 5/3/14

2013 - 75 btl. 2012 - 98 btl. 2011 - 112 btl. 2010 - 30 btl.

Ty told me he'd get back to me on that one and sell me a few bottles. Never did. Loved it at the Tour party.

Tonight is 07 Meeker PS. Tasty, and certainly has the structure to go a long time. I just can't afford to let everything age!

My palate may be kind of tonight as my food wasn't great either, but it was lean and mean for me. Nice, but tight. SWMBO really liked it, though.

2009 BV Tapestry Reserve

Good wine but only marginal at its $35 pricepoint. I'd much rather have the Sequoia grove cab I drank 2 weeks ago (same year, comparable price).

Odd to say: good concentration and body, needs more flavor. Lots of dry/chalky tannins too. A wine to drink but not ponder.

Sorry. Just saw this. It's really hard to say given the reported bottle variation. Based on my bottle, I'd say a couple years won't hurt, but I'm not sure they'll help.

Saw Stillman today at a wine tasting and tried his Viognier, Deep Purple Petite Sirah, and a preview of a CA coastal Pinot Noir he's about to bottle. Star of the night, in my opinion, was the bottle of 2008 Hug Cellars Booker Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon- man that was good stuff.
