2006 Hawley Merlot

Picked it up when I was out in California two weeks ago, what a great wine. Really sad to see he had to rip his estate merlot vines out. I think he has a few more vintages aging, but this is a well made wine.

What a great experience going out to his vineyard and meeting him and his family.

Nectar d'or is lovely, as is cellar 13, an almost colourless Glenmorangie.

According to him and his son phylloxera. Apparently the yield has been falling more and more each year. They may have a few left, but probably aren't going to see estate merlot after 2010/2011. He is thinking of planting a red Rhone varietal, but hasn't decided what yet.

So sad to see them go after drinking this wine. Finishing up the last glass tonight, just great wine.

Finishing the Root 1 Chardonnay with orange chicken and jasmine rice in about 2 hours. I'm at work, but I'd much rather be enjoying my dinner and a large glass of wine.

Not sure yet, going to a wine tasting at a local restaurant. Will have to wait and see what they pull from their wine list.

2009 M. Chapoutier Côtes du Rhône Belleruche

with pork butt, potatoes, carrots, and onions in the crockpot and a baguette in about 4 hours. But I'm hungry now.

Happy hour at BJ's and had their IPA, surprisingly not as great as I would have thought. Pizza is always solid though.

Followed up by one of many classes for how to care for our son to be. How did anyone ever have kids before all these classes existed.

2007 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve decanted two hours..

Young, but so good it's scary...need to find a deal for some more!

Had a 2010 Sicilian Frappato IGT. Powerful grapeyness in the glass, but nicely balanced to drink. Went reasonably well with slow-cooked ribs on the grill.

Very nice wine, went back and read the thread from when I bought it. Thread was 100% accurate, a great Syrah all around.

I really love the Verge 2007 Syrah. Ended up buying a case from them after enjoying my purchase from Woot. Your post reminded me to grab another bottle from storage and put it in the "to drink" queue.

Drinking:

Conspire 2010 Sauvignon Blanc. Very elegant SB, not a grapefruit bomb NZ type.

Also finishing the Ty's Red 2009 I opened two days ago. This is actually tasting better now with some air. It felt mildly disjointed the first night. I think I'll hang on to the other two bottles another year or so before trying again.

La Cuvee Mithique Corbieres 1994. I've been trying to drink up some of the older singles in the cellar, and with a forecast of 69 with little humidity, it's time for deck + ribeye + red.

Went out to Calistoga and rented a bike for a ride up some hills a few weeks back. The guy at the bike shop told me to ride up to Scramsberg's tasting room. Yep 1 mile long driveway, straight uphill, nice ride, little tough, but nice.

I love the Belleruche! It's hard to find around here, so when you see it, you snap it up.

Eeek yes that is a nice little hill. Better to ride up there before wine tasting, as opposed to after.

Now, some more of the Glenmorangie Quinta de Ruban. It really is quite lovely and elegant. I am very excited about the d'Or. It's also quite interesting how well whiskey and wine make a really bad week melt away.

A little bit of heaven is perfectly toasted pecans, with a yummy membrillo, Pt Reyes blue cheese, lemon zest crackers and a 2006 Meeker PS. This wine was left over from Saturday's CyberPub Cellars tasting; I'm tasting several of the wines tonight that were left over from then.
