That was one of my earlier stoppers as well. The recent ones up here I tested have superior performance characteristics.

I've gone to just opening a bottle, immediately pouring into a split, cork the split with the new cork (helps with identifying the bottle) and then tossing it into the fridge. This seems to work well as it minimizes the total oxygen exposure of the split. Additionally it limits me to 375 ml in a sitting.

That's not a bad idea. Now I have to get a split of... something, just to get the bottle. One could also use a vacu vin or similar device to further minimize the oxygen exposure.

Woot Cellars Adequate Gift (2008)

Starting to really show its age well!

Finished a bottle of "Starling Castle Riesling" that we still had (got as a gift) that was open for almost a year (in the fridge) - call it "spring cleaning". Now, it tasted pretty much the same as to when we opened it. Sugar water

I noticed some apple flavors (like very sweet apple juice) mixed with some citrus tart.

The bottle itself IS very pretty, but having been in the Mosel region myself, there are really good wines expressive of their terroir there - Starling Castle is not one of those.
It is a sweet-tooth pleaser.

2009 Mario Lucchetti Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. Smells like Black Muscat and the finish is like Black Muscat, but without any sugar and a different flavour profile. I'm digging it. This one is from Garagiste.

2008 Tenuta Monteti Caburnio one of the best $15 bottles ever..IMHO

Today when I go home for lunch I'm pouring a bottle of the 2009 Mirage "Not Bad Fizzy Cab" into the decanter to have with dinner.

I've been very pleased with the case of fizzy cab I got. A few hours in a decanter and it is a very tasty, and unique tasting, cab. Can't beat the price either!

Just opened - first sip, smoke is the prominent thing I get. Will see if it changes over time.
Worked out well since I was snacking smoked, roasted almonds.

Edit: day 2
Had roast lamb with German style red cabbage which I pimped up with cheap Cab.
smokiness went down significantly, was still there, and gave way to some spice, and more savory flavors. not very fruity.
I guess you can say 'it integrated'

on it's own it wasn't that great, but complemented the food very nicely. recommend for a heavy, hearty (but tasty) meal, such as mentioned lamb roast, with red cabbage (and dumplings btw)

Edit:
2/3 of a glass left on day 4. Smokiness has subsided, left with some undertones of savory Serrano ham or something along that line. Fruit notes coming out cautiously.

2004 WineSmith Napa Valley Faux Chablis, Student Vineyard, Napa Valley College.

Opened it last night. First taste wasn't good, but as it warmed up it opened up and was enjoyable. Not a lot of fruit left, but not bad. Will see how it changed tonight.

2005 McClean Estate Private Reserve Syrah, Paso Robles

Needed some stuffs from Costco and went browsing.
Found a 2008 St. Clement Cabernet Sauvignon Oroppas in the bin with a bunch of '10's for $34. Not bad, but doesn't seem like a $34 bottle; guess I'm spoiled. Stylistically just a bit too fruit forward for me. I'll enjoy this one, but likely not get another.

On to some Peter Wellington 2002 Syrah; more my style.
Followed by what's left of some 2005 UAP old vine dessert and Candy Basket Truffles.
