What an awesome wine. He's one of my favorite wine makers from woot.

I absolutely hated his second-label Chard and I disliked his Zin (can't remember which vineyeard, but it was offered on woot).

I haven't tried the Chard, and like his zin.

He's also the wine maker for black kite wines, and I'd like to try their Pinot noir.

Golden in color, nose is all vanilla and Carmel. Little to no fruit maybe some peaches. Interesting but not to my liking. Definitely would prefer it to have been younger.

I grew up in rural MN, so driving by a farm and smelling barnyard was common. So, to me, getting a little barnyard on the nose is desirable, just like earthen goodness.

Trader joes petit reserve Viognier by Castoro cellars. With jambalaya.

Excellent for the $7 price tag, need to buy more while they still have it.

2005 Manzanita Creek Alfonso Old Vine Zinfandel
2011 Covington Cellars Blanc Klipsun Vineyard (Red Mountain)

Blanc is nice. No grass, nice honey and tropical fruit. Good acidity for homemade cashew chicken.

Zin fruit has faded and is currently a bit disjointed. A bit of a letdown so far.

Not sure yet. Really oily (as expected from a Viogner). Short finish. Tropical fruits. I wish there was more acid, but for a $7 wine, this isn't too shabby. I'm drinking it with street-style chicken tacos. I'll post how well it works.

While picking up the Viogner also grabbed a Pontificis 2010 GSM for $6 on recommendation of the wine geek there. First CT review seems pretty accurate, but I'll see how it develops.

I like oaky chards. This was so dominated by oak, I couldn't get anything else. I also seem to remember the acid was off-balace and the alc. spiked (which is rare for me).

I liked it for the price. For $7, I'd be in deep.

rest of an 07 Ramal Chardonnay from Buena Vista opened the previous night. Very oaky, strong, complex heavy Chard, but not oak-butter. A lot better. Needs a good foil, being so huge! melted brie went quite nicely with that.

Then with roast lamb, a Scott Harvey Syrah, his 06 Mountain selection. Not as complex as the Chard, but once it opened up after 30 minutes, it zinged and zipped around nicely. Still a little port-y, but only slightly, and it just mellows and keeps it relatively one-dimensional but very round and comforting. A good, deep fun winter wine.

So it's what 3 hours after the initial pnp and it's still got a good amount of acid. Flavors (I'm not great at this) in the beginning are tart cherry and maybe raspberries? In the middle a spice comes forward it's not pepper which is what I normally get out of a lot of zins, something different but it's a good spice too.

Sorry I wish I was more help. But I did really enjoy my glass and a half. I've been a fan since I tried her 2009 Zin and this 2010 hasn't disappointed.
