Day 3 of turkey leftovers (took a night off last night to eat at the best Mexican restaurant in Buffalo). We love turkey, and we really loved the 2003 InZinerator with it. It has aged beautifully, none of the Port-like character that some people find objectionable in a Zin this old. Sure wish we had more of that. Thanks to Cheron98 for this one.

Had a pre wedding reception get together last night with friends. Lets see if I can remember
2005 chateu margiene ( paso Robles) cab. Very good, would rate 90 but still should lay down for at least another 5 years.
2007 cdp( can't remember name, should have been first, to light against the others)
2003 corrison cab, always good, still think 2001 was far better.
The sleeper/ unknown that we tried was Elul by seahorse from Israel .93 points all the way. Wish I had cases of this. Had the Munch by him prior and was just as please. May need to order more from seahorse.

Started out with the end of last nights 2007 Castello di Bossi Corbaia Toscana IGT, spectular bottle!

With grilled Salmon and roasted rosemary potatoes 2009 Evening Land Bourgogne Pinot Last bottle buy and 2005 Stonier Pinot. IMHO the Evening Land is acidic plonk with no fruit and no tannin, and the Stonier is far better if you like earthy pinot.

Slow-cooking some ribs on the grill right now with a good dry rub. Going to open the 1996 Foppiano PS and give it a go. Actually, I should probably open it soon to let it get air and see whether it needs a decant.

2007 Edmeades Mendocino zin. Came in at 15% or so, but was hoping it wasn't a fruit bomb. It went AWESOME with the beef short ribs, but it was a meh wine, otherwise. Too much fruit bomb, and I had high hopes for it (fyi, Turley is often in this range, and I love their zins, so I was hoping for this).

Opened a 2008 EOS PS to have with curried lamb shanks. A fair amount of fruit, which was a great match. Likely since this is young, the fruit comes through more. We enjoyed this.

And have two more shanks for Monday. I need to do as well for wine pairing then. Pressure!!

'04 Wellington Victory, with leek and potato soup and whole grain bread. A little tight on opening, but it opened up beautifully with about 20 minutes of decanting. Still plenty of aging potential, but I couldn't resist opening one of the bottles we had on hand.

Had a 2005 Domodimonti Picens last night.

Definitely needs some air time as it was really muted on pnp. After some time in the decanter it opened up a bit. Definitely not a lot of fruit here but some interesting peppery, leather flavors. Nice medium finish but the tannins were a little more drying than I normally prefer. Not a bad wine, but definitely nothing remarkable. We will if changed at all overnight.

Celebrating Friday with a 1984 Raymond Cab

This is looking to be a surprise! Bought this via auction for a great price, taking a gamble. Delicious from initial pop and continuing to develop as it gets some air. Have some Reserve from the same year that I'm now really looking forward too!

I'll post further notes, but on the PnP, huge wine. Delicious.

From CT:

  • 2006 Tallulah Syrah Bald Mountain Ranch - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (12/7/2012)
This wine is delicious! Dark in the glass. Dark fruits, beautiful acid/tannin balance. The finish is nice and lasting. A bit alcoholic on the PnP but it fades in the decanter (it's throwing sediment so decant). I would be perfectly content had I paid $30 for this wine. Huge fan of this. (91 pts.)
