My palate is a bit....incapacitated. Either my allergies have gone bonkers or I've acquired a very bad cold. I'm not typically a huge Merlot fan. However, I can tell that this wine is lovely. It has a very nice mouth feel. I can pick up some dark fruit (probably cherry or blackberry) and something earthy/woodsy (possibly cedar). I like it and bet it would be fabulous if I could really taste it. I forgot I had these... I'll retry it tomorrow and see if my palate is feeling any better.

The MomoKawa Diamond was ~adequate~, but not anything special. Given the selection of fish we had, a higher end sake really was called for. For the price we paid, a fair deal, and I would most certainly get more, but choose my meal with additional care, as it just lacked the delicacy needed this evening.

Sure.
Fruit forward with the now famous acidic zip backbone. It didn't seem quite as acidic as the 08 was and was nicely balanced. No noticeable alcohal and mildly tannic. It had no flaws but nothing really stood out either.

I would say its hitting it's stride now and is great as a sipper or a food wine. I often think that Ty actually does blends better than his varietal releases. This was my last of the 09's and I am looking forward to trying the 2010.

Finally got to enjoy a Bremer Family Claret from WTSO (2003) with a grilled ribeye.

Excellent combo and what a beautiful wine. I really felt like I was spoiling myself with this one, but at $25, it's a bit of a steal.

Easily compares to many $50+ Napa Bordeaux blends.

Palouse 2008 Eclipse. Bordeaux blend from Washington. I'm rather impressed, actually. It's still evolving, and has some nice complexity.

Jason Stephens estate Cab. I don't know the vintage, but I'm guessing the latest.

Nice sipping wine.

While I was out getting diagnosed with acute bronchitis, and getting prescriptions filled, LW was making a delicious pot of ratatouille. I thought I should do something useful, so I found a bottle of Dry Creek Vineyards 2004 The Mariner. Bought it on the 2008 rpm tour, and have been waiting for the right moment. It was worth the wait. Yum!

Expression 44 Roserock Pinot Noir. Surprisingly earthy and acidic (although this is one of my first OR Pinots) but lacking the flair I was expecting even after being open more than an hour. Solid wine, and I think with some age it'll improve a whole lot and develop the depth I was expecting.

Piro Piro Piccolo, with a mish-mash of veggies, sausage and curry. It's left-overs night and that actually worked.

I'm drinking Maker's Mark, contemplating whether I want to eat dinner at 10 or sleep hungry.

The second half of a bottle of Talluah Syrah. I really like that stuff at the $15 price point for dense grapey Syrah. It's not terribly meaty or smokey (McClean/Donati meet those flavors) but beautifully dense and berry. I think Wellington does it a half shade better but mot by much.

Side note. I am really liking having a half bottle around. The fist thing I do upon opening a bottle is fill the half. Then a day or 4 later I have another half bottle open that has just a touch more oxygen than the bottle did when opened. It's generally drinkable immediately and has very little if any degradation of flavor. Highly recommended

Toasty, with vanilla-edged black and red-currant aromas. Bottle age has mellowed this smoky red’s ripe tannins and rich plum and black currant flavors. It was real bargain.

Going to make a nice cold martini when I get home, and then probably move on to wine, though at this point I'm not sure which wine.
