More of this. Fruit is more subdued and the wine has smoothed out considerably.
It was rebottled into a 375ml for two days in the fridge and then decanted for 2 hours.

Simple but very tasty on day two. Day one bitter and astringent, SCM wines need time or air.

OK, now I see what all the TO hoopla is about....this wine is amazingly terrifically stupendously good!

Moon Mountain 2001 Syrah

I don't have much experience with Syrahs that are 10+ years old, but this one isn't impressing me. The fruit is muted, very acidic, not much to the nose except maybe some cedar and mushroom.

This is an inoffensive wine, but it isn't much to be enjoyed on its own without food.

Hope the later Syrah MMs show better.

Well if people on Ct are right and it is past its prime, I would pay 10x what I did to get it in its prime...this is one of the best reds I've opened in a long, long time.

Drinking more TO Carignane tonight, and it's equally as good as last night. You should open yours, it's darn tasty

Don't have a 2001, but you prompted me to pull a cork on a 2004. Fruit didn't knock me out, but I didn't expect or want it to. For $10 I wasn't expecting anything great, but this was quite nice, good mouth feel, balanced, a bit of wood and a medium finish, and throwing off a bit of sediment. Acid well in control. This went well with a generic pizza and salad with feta, and solo after supper. I did like the 2003 better however, but only have two of those, and now three of these left that will wait a bit longer.

2005 Moon Mountain Syrah

Sam Adams cherry wheat.
Not all that great but it is better than bud light.

2005 Arcadian Fiddlesticks Pinot

2003 Henry's Drive Reserve Shiraz.

This is a HUGE wine. Almost black in color. Cedar on the nose, dark fruits with a hint of pepper. My SO has a very "New World" palate and loves it. It has some time left, but drinking well now.

Foppiano Rose (from the RPM tour hash) - extremely dry, quite tart, lots of strawberry notes.

Wellington 2007 Estate Grenache bought on the 2010 Tour. Not as bowl-me-over excellent as I recall, but expectations can be distorting. Nice wine overall, classic Wellington style.

Last night was Angry Orchard Crisp Apple cider.

Yeah, I hadn't heard of it either. Google-fu reveals it is a side project of Boston Beer. Originally limited region release, it's going nation-wide.

It was OK for me. Not too sweet, with a crisp tang. Not Scrumpys, but I've given up finding that anywhere in the colonies.

2005 moon mountain petite Verdot

Just about the best of the moon mountains thus far. Dense and rich. Tannins are fairly low. Good acidity.

Picket Fence 2010 Pinot Noir

Y'all will likely chuckle at my naive palate when it comes to wine, but this is the first Pinot Noir that made me say "Wow, this is a pretty good wine!" Most Pinots I've tried reminded me of Kool-Aid. I'm mostly a Cabs and Zin guy. I'll now definitely try more Pinots!

2010 Giornata Aglianico - absolutely love these true Italian wines. Super long dry finish.

Had another Italian wine last night that my wife picked up in Europe, but I cant even begin to remember it. I saved the bottle. Maybe I will go check it out and write it down, but it is all in Italian.
