2010 Woot Cellars Vinito de Finito

Quite nice. Not cloying at all. Berries (like boysenberry pie), a bit of acid to carry it, barely any tannin, however. For the price, very l serviceable.

My wife and I do not share your love for it. The estate syrah on the other hand is simply awesome.

Drank the first of my RPM tour spoils last night with the Gundlach Bundschu Gewurztraminer. Really nice wine, although not as floral as some Gewurztraminers (at least in my stemware).

Wish I had picked up more than one bottle and want to thank Neilfindswine for convincing GB to open it.

Jelly Jar earlier with shrimp risotto and artichokes, working on some Clayhouse Adobe Red just now. Finished off a Lang Sausalito 2008 Zin earlier. Kind of a clean-up Sunday to make room for next weeks bottles.

Generally, just recap in the fridge. We rarely have left-overs, but SWMBO doesn't like dessert wines.

Just decanted a bottle of 2007 Torii Mor Pinot Noir Reserve Deux Verres and poured a glass in time to join a late 8PM conference call (stupid new manager-GRRRRR!).

Gotta love global "integration" . . . sigh.

Finally this pinot is opening up...very nice, second bottle will cellar for a while, but I gotta say it's difficult to beat a good pinot!

09 paradisos del sol riesling. Nothing from paradisos del sol ever disappoints...have an "under 10 buck red" to open soon.

the only trouble with stillmans wines is that he makes such small quantities and does not produce the same wines every year. so you may never see that wine again.

2011 la Cana Rias biaxas

Nice pale/ straw color. Bright on the palate and nose. Mostly green apples and pears. Great buy at Costco for $13.

Been decanting a bottle of 2008 Ketcham Estate Pinot Noir Russian River Valley since 5PM, and just poured the first glass.

Not bad at all so far, pairing it with some Coq au vin

Poached salmon and salad, with 2011 St. Supery Sauv Blanc, from Costco.

Before the tour I didn't even know I liked SB at all. Chalk it up to rpm's educating tour.

Sausages from the Fiarfax farmers market and Guinness (from the widget-bearing can). Yum.

2010 Wellington Vineyards Alicante Bouschet Noir de Noirs, Old vines
Black with dark purple around the rim. It lets no light through, the legs are so thick that they actually hold and stay until they are swirled away The nose is intense and is predominately blackberry, there is also a mild green note and cocoa but the fruit shines here above all else. the palate has almost a jammy quality but the nose is much stronger than the palate. The finish is medium and is tannic.

The wine was difficult to describe but to those who have not had it the best way to describe it is a cross between an inky black PS and a jammy syrah.

Recommended at under $25.


With BBQ chicken and roasted asparagus

Wife opened 2011 Municipal Winemakers Chenin Blanc.
Light yellow and clear, nose is of green apples and pears but is very subdued. The wine has nice mild fruit on the palate and is crisp and tart. The wine is dry and finishes very short almost hollow.

Seems like a workhorse white, lacks the bright fruit of SB, the acidity of Riesling or the rounded feel of chard. Yet it works quite well with lighter foods. Solid white that I would buy again. Recommended at $15 or lower.

Ooooo how is that stuff? I have a couple bottles and wonder if it is better young, old, or ancient.

I personally had half a bottle of one of the McClean syrah reserves from the plus deal. I broke out an 07 and found it to be pretty incredible. Very meaty with olive tones. Very happy with it at woot prices.
