2009 Municipal winemakers Counoise
7/13/2012: Bottle 336 of 425, color is a clear darker red. Nose is off black berries and plum with a hint of strawberries in the swirl. The nose is strong and has almost a perfume quality to it. The palate gets the same fruit as the nose minus the strawberries. It is medium/light bodied and has a mouth coating round feel to it that was not expected by the color but a slightly sour very acidic finish. Seems similar to Grenache but also has some qualities that I wish most grenaches had. Awesome wine and I wish MW had made more than they did.

Had a 2008 Rosenblum Zinfandel on Saturday (Eagle Point Vineyard I think).

Just popped the cork on the 02 Nicolaysen LH Pinot Blanc.

Wow that stuff is heaven in a bottle, minus the tartrate crystals on the cork and the inside of the rim of the bottle. Raisin and honey through and through. A little to end the evening was wonderful.

2009, 90+ Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Collectors Series (Lot 48)

Delicious and smooth for a young Cab. Nice cherry and vanilla notes. Fantastic QPR at ~$22 (declared to be $75 if purchased from the "source"). I would love to know whose Cab this is...but I don't have a secret decoder ring.

Must buy more!!!

07' Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir Grower Vintner Russian River Valley

Dark garnet and clear, nice fruit and little smoke but little else. Great food wine but came across as slightly sour by itself

Oban, single malt.
Think I'll have enough grapes next week.

R2 Rhapsody red Rhone blend bought on woot last year. Red fruit and pepper, simple but tasty.

2009 François Chidaine Vouvray Le Bouchet. Mead-like nose and honey-lemon flavor on the palate. Simple and delicious! Way too easy to drink... Thank you InShadows!!! This was a fabulous find.

2010 Wellington Chardonnay.
Delicious.

2011 Trader Joe's Cabernet Sauvignon Viñas Chilenas

It's $3 in CA, and at $3, a pretty damn decent bottle of wine.

Alfaro Family Vineyards 2009 Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah. Delightfully cool climate character - black pepper dominates the nose, and it harmonizes with cherry and plum on the tongue. We should have more Santa Cruz Mountain woots. Ridge, anybody? Also Woodside Vineyards?

Madison Cellars 2004 Syrah. A great conglomeration of age and freshness. Delicious!

Opened some wines purchased on the RPM tour tonight in Carmel-by-the-sea.

First up over dinner at Basil: Robert Craig Mt Veeder 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon.

This is a delicious wine IMHO. I know the Vets tour wasn't thrilled with Robert Craig for some reason, but I'm going to blame it on palate fatigue since it was their last stop of the day.

Kind of out of expected order, we are now drinking the Gundlach Bundschu Tempranillo based Rose in the room with a crackling fire going. This is a dry rose, but it has the smallest hint of sweetness to it. It leans a bit heavier/bigger body than the Roses that I tend to prefer. If I had this again, I'd partner it up with a burger outside on a hot day.

After playing the varietal guessing games on the RPM tour which I proved fairly poor at, I can't imagine having to guess the varietal that Roses are made from. It would be much more difficult.

There has been some talk about Santa Cruz Mountain wine around here lately...Can't wait to try this one!

Dark for a Pinot.
Mostly cherries and strawberries, medium bodied and ultra smooth. A little bit of funk and sourness on the finish. Great at the bevmo 5 cent sale price. Would purchase again.

F-Bomb.... not too bad.....

Friday night with brisket (Jewish style):
-left over Kunde 2008 Reserve Zin from WD's/rpm party. Yum!!!
-left over Wellington 2010 Alexander Valley surprise from the WD/rpm party. It's a baby still.
-Twisted Oak 2005 Tempranillo. It's really hitting its stride, even the bottle that was sitting a little too close to the stove for over a year.
-2007 Royal Tokai, 5 puttunyos. Also a baby, but delicious.


Last night at a farewell party:
-2007 Canoe Ridge Cabernet. Not as good as I remember it. Probably just in an awkward phase right now.
-2009 Cinnabar Winery Mercury Rising blend. Jammy fruit bomb.
-2009 Trader Joe's Reserve Chilean blend of 40% Petit Verdot and 60% Cab Franc. I quite liked this. Austere and more complex than I expected for $10, definitely not a fruit bomb

And the star of the night: 2006 Inzinerator, in a Jeroboam!

Sam Adams BL. They make so many styles but its eaSy to forget about the one that started it all.

2008 Lammershoek Chenin Blanc. Nice wine from South Africa hitting far above its $10 price point. I'd be interested in trying some newer vintages if they become readily available.

On tap for tonight with Boursin- and prosciutto- stuffed chicken breast:

2011 VINTJS Sauvignon Blanc (relabeled St. Supery) from Trader Joe's ($5.99)

Seeing if I want to re-up for the summer. Thanks tytyger (you enabling flower garden).

Tomorrow is some White Sangria with either F-Bomb or Triacipadis or both for the wine base.

Meh. And for a $6, that's ok. It's not my style of SB (it emulates the NZ wines), but at $6, I think it easily competes with the $10-$14 NZ wines. I'm not going to re-buy, but I'm not unhappy I have 2 more bottles.

Just cracked open a Domaine du Grand Montmirail Vacqueyras Rhone blend.

Very nice wine for the $$.
