Can someone please help me find a website that sells 2005 Sequoia Grove Cab? Need to buy as a gift. Can't find it anywhere.
I live paycheck to paycheck thanks to woot.

Hey all, apologies for dropping the ball on the Vintner's Voicemail today. I've been pretty frazzled lately and the last few days have been pretty hectic.
I'll open a bottle of each of these when I get to the winery, and I'll give you updated tasting notes along with the original notes.
And as always, go ahead and fire away with the questions. As soon as I'm at my desk I'll provide you with unnecessarily verbose answers, as per usual. So go ahead and start pipin tacking up questions if you got 'em, and I'll get back to you all right away!

MarkDaSpark wrote:About how long can these cellar for?
What's the PH on them?
These are going to cellar for at least 10 years from bottle vintage, maybe 15+.
I don't have pHs this hot second, I'll get a couple bottles open when I finish my bagel and let you know. But I'm going to go on record guessing that they're both 3.4-3.5.

richardhod wrote:Yes. I wonder how these compare to the Meeker cabs!
Stylistically the Kelly's Cab and the Kiss Ridge are very comparable wines... we typically approach all of our Cab, regardless of where it's from, with a similar theory.
My general feelings regarding how these two wines compare is really straight forward: The Kelly's Cabs have a little more old-world lean to them than the Kiss Ridge. The KR probably has the more elegant tannin structure while the Kelly's is probably a touch more tannic and bigger.
Plus, the Kelly's Cab is named after my sister, and she's pretty cool (I guess).

dianefreda wrote:This sounds like a nice wine at a nice price (that is if I'm getting 2 bottles of each-when I ordered it shows 1 of each which I hope is a mistake)-I'm thinking it is and I will happily have 4 bottles .
It is indeed 2x bottles of each wine, totaling 4 bottles.

BTW according to CT, these were on WTSO fairly recently (I don't recall seeing it though). I wonder if the person that entered them really meant Woot, as it shows two bottles of each year....I don't think Lucas would do the identical deal at both venues
No, these wines were never on a daily deal site other than Woot, who is the only site we work with on offers like this.

Lucas - Are both of these 100% cab or is there some of that great cab franc blended in?
I don't have access to the blending notes, my dad needs to find them for me and he isn't at the office yet. But I'm 100% sure there is some Cab Franc and Merlot in these, probably a shade of Petit Verdot too. There's always a chance that there's some Syrah too.
I'm glad you liked Julia so much, we've really enjoyed having her and the Tribe has reacted really positively. She's awesome. Make sure you respond to the pizza party RSVP quickly if you haven't already, I'm expecting it to be full quickly.
Thanks for your support!

This vineyard is in Southern Mendo on some rolling, east slope bench land southwest of Hopland. Killer vineyard. We actually used it as the backbone for the two vintages of Four Kings that we made from Mendo. Really good stuff. The Syrah from this vineyard was killer too, as well as the Petit Verdot (which we bottled as a varietal from the 02 and 04 vintage).

Dude, that wine is so tannic. I haven't tasted it in a while, actually. Remind me at the pizza party and we'll open a bottle together and check it out.

2004 Kelly's Cab blend by percentage:
- 80% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 8.8% Merlot
- 4.4% Cab Franc
- 3.4% Malbec
- 3.4% Petit Verdot
2006 Kelly's Cab blend by percentage:
- 85% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 10% Merlot
- 5% Cabernet Franc
And yes, it is named after my sister, and I'm pretty sure that's a good thing (I keed, I keed).

TASTING NOTES!!!
I just got to re-tasting these wines out of the cellar, and I have lots to report.
2004 Kelly's Cab
This wine has aged really well, and the tannins have softened and integrated very well. It's probably going to start peaking within the next 18-24 months. I got great, classic Cab character from this wine with good, mellow cherry fruit on the nose with hints of menthol and possibly eucalyptus. The palate is broad, tannic, but round and peaks in the mid palate with good structure and a long finish. Current pH is 3.6. The wine probably has a bother 4-5 years in it. This wine has the distinctly more old-world feel between the two. I preferred this wine to the 06, but that's a style thing.
2006 Kelly's Cab
This vintage was really good, and the wines from 06 are characterized by big, rich fruit and good structure. This Chalk Hill Cab is no different. As opposed to the sort of "classic" Cab nose, this wine rings with a little bit spicier, plum nose that is full and round. The palate still shows oak much more prominently than the 04 with Medium Toast character and a touch of vanilla. Tannins are very well integrated, and in general the palate is much rounder in structure and as my dad put it "easier drinking". While it is the rounder of the two, I'd also say that it's the more tannic because of the still-prominent oak and it's also more acidic, at 3.4 pH. This wine will age for at least another 4-5 years. Not sure when it will peak, but it's tasting darn nice right now.
Let me know if you have any more questions. As always, we're more than happy to give you answers!

worst.week.ever. My budget is well and fairly blown... yet I can't resist based on my fondness for the Kiss Ridge and Lucas's comparison. In for 1
