Was a pretty good day. Picked up mom from rehab for the afternoon. Dad same (lethargic), so Mom saw she needs to stay in and get better from her hip surgery. Dad's scheduled for new pacemaker on Jan. 18th.

this is my last dog. Up at 4 to go outside. Get up, promptly step in the thoughtfully placed Yule log. Clean that up. Go downstairs, clean up the piss all over the rug. Shut dog in kennel as I'm through with dog for the night. 15 minutes later, dog starts barking and wakes up baby. Hate dog

Do you think you dad is lethargic due to needing a new pacemaker? Glad your mom is making progress!!! how are you holding up?

How old is dog? I understand your frustration... Retrain dog to sleep in kennel at night... you will love dog again after dog is retrained!

Hopefully. But he has Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), so no guarantees that the new dual lead pacemaker will work.

And exhausted. May not be able to go out NYE, depends on if Mom comes home this week or next, and how Dad is doing. Sis can only come Tu-Th, since she has to get ready for her annual NYE party.

Better yet, put him outside at night. Oh wait, you live in Nebraska. Kennel it is.

Sis and her family have used the kennel at night for the last two dogs, and it really helps.

Blah. At lunch with my gf today in Tucson and I get a call from the credit card company as I pay. Apparently they found some fraud on my account. A suspicious charge yesterday plus my being in Tucson tripped their fraud detection. Upside: no suspicious charges actually made it through (yet). Downside: need to wait a week or so for a new card. at least they caught it!

Good thing they caught it!

Apparently the anonymous group is going to be busy hacking this week. Some large company just got it and the anonymous peeps are making several donations with other people's cards.

Glad they caught it! Chances are that they'll have your new card for you in the next day or two. I think ddeuddeg got his replacement overnight! They want you to be able to use it! But you are in Tucson . . . will it be delivered to your home? If so, therein lies the problem. . . Good luck!

Cheesecake question - what if I want to make several small cheesecakes? I have some small springform pans, maybe 4-5 inches? Would they bake at the same temp, and/or the same time?

On facebook if you open the picture, you should be able to change the settings from friends only to public. You'll have to make sure the pic opens on the page, not layer over pic that shows over the page.

OK, so let's give this another try.

EDIT: I will send some pics to sanity and she will post them with the recipes on the website. Links can be found in ddeuddeg and PB's signatures. But give her a few days to post. I'm sure that she will let us know when they are up.

Aww man, I am sorry. I have a 3 yr old GSD that roams my house at night. He will only bark if there is something wrong and needs to be dealt with right away. He walks in and checks on my child and wonders back to his room. I good dog is one of the best things in life. A true companion that only ask for love in return.

I hope you can get yours back on the right track.

I often do mini-cheesecakes. I decrease the temp by 25 degrees and start off at 30 minutes cooking time and adjust accordingly after that.

Did you ever make fudge, and how did it come out?

Yes and no. This is the time to buy those wines for their special birthdays. 21st, 25th, & 30th. Because you will regret not doing so. And get enough in case you want to open one when they get engaged/married. I regret not doing so, and it's expensive to get one now.

I never did make fudge, forgot all about it! Maybe this weekend. I've been on a baking kick lately. Baking every weekend + weight watchers = interesting nutritional maneuvering.

I've never tried baking smaller cheesecakes, but sanity's advice sounds solid, and she's used that technique with success, so I'd go with that. Give them a gentle shake after the 30 minutes she suggests, and see how they're doing. You want the center to be a bit jiggly and still shiny. I'd add time, if necessary, in 5 minute increments.
Good luck.

I'll be home shortly after the mail arrives on Thursday - maybe it'll be there by then. That's one of the nice things about staying at the gf's parent's house...few expenses, all of which can be dealt with in cash. I think because of all the holidays things are a bit delayed. No matter.

Here's a sign that I may have to much time on my hands today. This is my nomination for our "Circle of Excellence" Award, which I lovingly refer to as the Circle Jerk of Excellence Award.

Circle of Excellence Award

Name: This Font

Submitted by: Bowtie

Please write a brief description why person should be nominated:

I would like to nominate this font for the Circle of Excellence. It makes my eyes happy, and my brain fill with rapture. I cannot remember the last time I read something that made me so giddy. It’s almost, but not quite, as good as Christmas morning when I was a kid. I remember once, on Christmas day, I was so excited about a book I received on the legend of King Arthur that I couldn’t wait to read it. It was agonizing, opening those stupid video games and toys, when all I wanted to do was read about King Arthur and Excalibur. When the capitalist beast was finally sated (I also got a book on Marx when I was a kid), and the last present opened, I dashed to my room and cracked open that book, only to find a font like this*, which left me bitter and wanting. I couldn’t even finish the book I was so distraught. The memory of that sad, sad day has stuck with me, lo these many years and left me the broken, pathetic shell of a person you know today. If only that book had been written in this font, I wonder what my life would have turned out like. We’ll never know, and that, that is the true tragedy. So thank you Microsoft Uighur in 23 pt glory for giving my life meaning again. I have stared into the abyss and you stared back. I am forever smitten.

*Copperplate32bc 10pt, for those following along at home

We'll see if the powers that be have any sense of humour. I tend to doubt it.
