Easy buy. I bought this last year and it was so good. This is not to be missed!

Is it very bitter? I'm seeing a lot of references to peppery.

BTW - this stuff mixed with the Cavedoni botte piccola makes the best balasmic dressing I have ever tasted.

That's a pretty neat trick, crushing the olives BEFORE they're picked ...

As data points to help you make your decision:
- When I ordered some fancy cheese off of here that everyone raved about, my reaction was "yummy, tastes like cheese! (same as say Kraft)"
- When I ordered the truffle butter recently, my reaction was "butter! with a vague mushroomy flavor that's nothing special"

So, should I get this? Will I say "yummy, tastes like olive oil!", or "yummy, this is special!!!!"

You're almost assuredly wasting your money here.

The kind of flavor a fresh pressed oil is going to impart/contain is quite trivial compared to the things you're talking about above.

This has to be one of the most depressing comments I have read on here. Unless it really wasn't a good cheese, the difference should be very obvious. It's like comparing a fresh tuna steak to chicken of the sea.

Well we just got a new bread maker as a wedding gift... this seems like it might be the perfect complement to some new homemade breads when we fire it up.

Do any of you add herbs/spices to the dish when you pour in the olive oil? If you do, any recommendations for the best blend?

I really like good olive oils, but this seems much too expensive. I can't justify spending more than 15-20 on oil, especially without tasting it first.

I find it amusing that the picture for Wine.woot in the daily email is for cheese and the offering is for olive oil.

I guess we know whats for sale later today.

Beer is cheap, although I grant you that micro brews are sometimes hard to source locally unless you have a giant liquor store nearby. What's missing from this world is a daily deal hard liquor site. Give me some high end micro distillery vodka, potato vodka, various whiskey's and scotchs, rums, exotic mixers, etc and I'll be a happy man.

This is probably one of the smoothest tasting olive oils I've ever had. We ran out last year and squeezed every last drop out of the bottle. I'm going for 2 this year so that doesn't happen again.

Found the same olive oil on this website

http://www.casadecase.com/olivestri-siloro/

they sell the 750 ml for $30 a bottle. Yes shipping is more, but if you get 3 it seems to be the same price as woot.

A thread in the "World of" section has a Woot staffer saying beer weighs too much. Doesn't seem to be a problem for those 12-bottle wine woots, though.

The estimated shipping I got for 3 bottles from that site was 21 bucks. Woot is 5 dollars shipping for 1 2 or 3 bottles, not 5 dollars each.

So for 3 bottles its a little cheaper on woot, but for one bottle its way cheaper on woot (since they want almost 16 bucks jfor one bottle)

BTW - the company behind that site has been the source of the oil and the Cavedoni balsamic the past few years, so you are getting the same stuff regardless. I have ordered from them before as well.

Eh, no. that's not THIS one. This one is in the link Cesare has in the first post. Your link goes to the Olivestri Siloro, which likely comes from the same olives, but given it is already marketed as golden yellow is not the NEW oil. This is the Olio Nuovo, the new "first crush" if you will - which on their site is being sold for $39/bottle.

Not only is the mass the same, as you have pointed out but the alcohol can be the same too. If they had the gumption to sell some of the "bigger" beers like Barleywine or Stone's Vertical series.

Nay, not fact but feeling. Its probably not easily marketed on the same site. Due to perceived lack of crossover.

Then yes, you should skip this. In fact, you can probably save yourself time and money by skipping wine.woot altogether. It does not sound like your tastes lean in the direction where you'd ever get value from the offerings here.

However, rejoice in the fact that you find the greatest pleasure in the cheaper options. I do hope you visit Taco Bell infrequently, though -- that stuff's terrible for ya ;-)

I never knew the difference between Olive Oils until I tasted this last year (bought through Woot around the same time). I gave it to my girlfriend on Christmas as a fun little present since she loves cooking. We opened it and tasted it that day, and my aunt, sister, and mom all immediately went online to find out what it was so they could order some. It is ridiculous stuff. Not sure if it is worth the money or not, but I bought 3 today so I could give them away for presents. It's amazing.

BTW, we only used it sparingly, and used it for 6 months or so. You can still taste the difference, even after all of that time.

I used to have a store-bought mix but it was VERY salty, so now I just make my own. Grate some parmesan or pecorino cheese, add some red pepper flakes and maybe a little fresh garlic or herbs of your choosing (I've tried various things such as basil, rosemary, fennel, but never been crazy about any of them). They serve something similar in some restaurants.

I've ordered quite a bit from wine.woot as well, and enjoy it all, but always disappointed a little.. because from the comments I expect to be blown away and have it be the best tasting cheese/chocolate/toffee/whatever that i've ever had by a huge margin. Yet they always seem to fall in the category of good, not amazing. I wouldn't compare them to kraft though!

Secretcow wrote:Hey, is this a big difference from Costco's Kirkland First Cold Pressed Olive Oil, like taste wise? I really like balsamic vinegar + olive oil and bread. Like reallllyy like it. Would this oil be really dif though, like worth the price (it's like $15 at costco).

Costo's olive oil is like a very nice Toyota. It works well, it's not offensive, and it gets the job done.

Olio nuovo is more like a Tesla. It's handcrafted, using totally different rules. More complex, a little more "rough". This oil is about the basics - the ingredients and how it is assembled, whereas Costco's oil is more about getting a decent product into every home.

It's nice having both - I cook with the Costco Toyota, but I use the Olivestri Tesla for *everything else* where I won't be heating the oil.

Anyone remember the Livermore Olive Oil offered here about one year ago? It was AWESOME and cheaper than this. I can't recall its name (have a bottle at home) but am curious as to how this compares to it.

If you want to pay $120 for a case of beer then by all means...

And believe it or not, beer-shipping-interstate laws are often more convoluted (backwards) than wine. It isn't just a blanket "alcohol" law. Beer, Wine, Liquor all have different lobbyists writing different laws for each product. x50 and you have a stupid nightmare.

I'm thinking more like a 22 ounce bottle of some really cool beer I can't find even at a nice beer store. Woot seems to be able to find stuff from wineries that is difficult to impossible to find. It seems like they could do the same type of thing with a microbrewery. A 22 ounce bottle of a very special beer would be awesome.

Received today, unfortunately one of the two bottles leaked all over the inside of the box in transit... anyone have any advice? Can't seem to find a way to contact anyone at the company directly as suggested by the FAQ (as it is, my Italian skills are beyond rusty), though paying return freight and just getting a refund (stated normal woot return procedure) seems a bit of a bust as well. Guess I could just get by with a less than full bottle, kind of a bummer.

Exactly. A bomber here, a growler there. And the laws for ordering from and shipping to each state only has to be worked out once.
