Not rated in CT, but average price ~$26. That would make this a screaming deal if the juice is good. Nice blend, but pH 3.83 wouldn't seem to suggest it'll cellar for an extended time. Can't find it on the Sextant site either.
Any rattage expected?

Any rattage? All of them - no doubt. Last time I jumped quickly and brought (even selected "I want 2") but turn out to be really bad. Don't know how to respond except blame myself.

They're ten min down the road from me, my hope is to pop into their tasting room at lunch and see if I can try some and hope it doesn't sell out before then if I want to buy!

If I do get to try I will post any notes here if we don't get any labrats.

What are the words on the streets? $11/btl seems pretty cheap. Does that come out in the final product?

For a Sextant Cab?

Seems like there are a lot more 6-packs and cases these days on wine.woot than there used to be. It's disappointing because I would be willing to try a lot more different offers (and would prefer the variety to the bulk quantities) if I didn't have to commit to 6 or more bottles at a time.

EDIT: From what I can tell, this is the first ever Cab Sauv wine produced by Sextant. Definitely needs some rattage, despite the attractive price point.

That's the other thing that gets me - offers like this where you are forced to buy 6 bottles but are limited to 2. How about a 4 bottle offer with a limit of 3?

Well, with a relatively low price per bottle, flat $5 shipping, and some split between WW and the producer, 4 bottles may just not make sense economically.

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

I am looking forward to trying out this cab -- have tried several of the Sexant wine offerings over the past few months via Woot, and have been very pleasantly surprised with wonderful flavors especially for the price. Hope this one lives up to the others, but definitely worth a try!

I picked up 6 bottles of the Zin when they came up. 3 went to coworkers and 3 came home with me. No one - myself included - has been disappointed. I didn't bother with a TN, but my recollection is of a straight-forward, fruit-forward Zin.

I imagine the Cab (with actually less age on it) will be similar... If I weren't swimming in bottles, I'd be in for 1.

Well, they do have this 2007 Kamal on their site listed under the cab banner but reading the notes you'll find it's an unspecified Bordeaux blend.

I bought their zin 6 pack and enjoyed it. Was definitely a jammy very fruity zin that did well with aeration and a just a bit of chilling. Still have one left. Would like to see a rat report on this cab though - if the zin is representative of their wines I would expect this to be more of a "chewy" cab... but that may be a stretch to make that assumption. At that price it's hard not to hit the big button now. And personally: I like the 6 packs and mixed cases - usually turns out to be cheaper and when you are on a budget that's vury vury nice

Wouldn't they save money on shipping 4 bottles instead of 6 for $5?

Cheaper than what? 6 bottles are not cheaper than 4. If you're suggesting that the price per bottle is less, how would anyone know that? It's just speculation since there's no 4 bottle offer to compare it to.

I suppose 6-packs of inexpensive wines are great if you drink a bottle a night like my sister does but I'd like to think that most of us aren't here looking for the wine equivalent of a 12-pack of PBR.

me = broke college student working on my second degree = no money, but still was brought up drinking good wine - wine that is now miles outside of my price range. (also live in Colorado = good beer only for me -yay!).

My statement was based purely on the observation that when wine woot sells by 4 and 3 packs they are, generally speaking, pricier per bottle than when they sell 6 packs (mixed cases tend to vary fairly widely, I have noticed). However, I am but a novice wooter therefore my experience is limited - guess I should have included that, my apologies. And you make a very valid point - with not having these wines also sold in smaller amounts we have nothing to compare the price to except for winery posted prices and store prices. So observation only on my end

The problem with that statement is that they really can't ship any of our packages for just $5 so some of that cost must come from the bottle revenue. There is simply more revenue in 6 bottles than 4. Also, the difference in cost to ship 6 bottles vs 4 is not very much.

End result: enough money for wine maker, enough for wine woot, and cheaper per bottle to us for the 6 packs vs the 4s

That's true, the smaller offerings are usually pricier wines to begin with, therefore more $ per bottle despite a similar discount percentage.

I would actually prefer to pay an extra $1-$2 per bottle and have the option to buy 3 instead of 6 at the lower price. Maybe that's something that Woot could consider for the future.

I do realize that wine.woot doesn't revolve around me and that it means different things to different people from different demographics.

For me, it's an opportunity to try a wide variety of wines at discounted prices while continuing to learn more about wine and getting a chance to interact with the winemakers and my fellow wooters. I guess the variety aspect is key for me and committing to 6-12 bottles of a single wine at a pop doesn't leave me nearly as much opportunity to experience that variety.

I can only drink so much and only have so much money to spread around but I realize that for others it may be all about bargain quantities instead of variety.

Can't argue with that logic. Good points!

EDIT: Although I will also point out that what seems to make good business sense for woot may not make good consumer sense for me and others. I probably would have pulled the trigger on this offer if it was 3-4 bottles instead of 6. Lost sales are hard to figure into net shipping costs.

I think this is an accurate assessment of the 4 vs 6 bottle QPR.

Could I have your sister's number? Sounds like my kinda girl.....

OH...By the way......
What the heck is wrong with PBR?

Jest saying.....geez

It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking wine: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.

The key is to give your Fedex guy a bottle of wine about twice a year. In fact, this Sextant would be perfect for just that occasion. At the same time, you tell him that its OK with you if he just signs your name and leaves the wine on the porch. I've found Fedex much more willing to do this than UPS.

LOL I would if I ever saw they guy! That's the problem. I finally have to send to my local FedEx/Kinkos office, but they can't seem to find my wine again even though they called to say it was there. They were unsure where it was sent. It has become a joke. The people I have dealt with seem to be rejects from DMV. I never had a problem with FedEx in Queens but upstate now and its useless.

Wow, do you ever think wrong. Ahem. Although really, I'd say I'm looking for the wine equivalent of Tecate, although I'm happy to occasionally spring for the Oskar Blues, especially if I only have to pay what I usually do for Fat Tire.

I like the 6-packs, myself. I particularly like the mixed cases and sixes because they serve as a good introduction to wineries I might not know. (And sometimes they lead me to join wine clubs.)

I wooted the Sextant Zin last time and it was quite good for an inexpensive wine. My scant notes suggest that I was thinking about buying their better Zin (Wheelhouse, I think?) from the winery to try out (which I never did for some reason).

Finally, my FedEx guy is a darling, and yesterday when he brought me my Blue Nomad he asked if we were drinking at the same rate he was delivering. (The rate of deliverage slightly exceeds the rate of drinkage. A cellar is slowly accumulating.)

There, I think I've covered all the current topics! I am waiting to see if we get our informal lunch rat, but I'm probably going to buy.

My FedEx guy is due any minute with my Blue Nomad and Jemrose purchases. I do wonder what he thinks sometimes. I'm up to 104 bottles from Woot in 2011. That means I'm ordering at a rate of 10 bottles per month but I only drink around 3-4 per month so my collection is growing rapidly.

Seems that I'm the only one who doesn't like the 6 bottle minimum deals so I guess we will continue to see more of them and I will just have to be.... that was the fedEx guy, right on time.... more discerning about my future purchases.

EDIT: Thanks for the extra labels, Blue Nomad!
