artjunkie wrote:I'll check back to see if LabRats have anything to share. I'd love to know how this compares to the Kaleidoscope offered recently. I like a little sweetness in a summery white. I'm not a wine connoisseur. If you are, and you think it's too sweet, I'll probably like it.

Not liking a sweet wine doesn't make anyone a connoisseur, in fact, it is the opposite. A true connoisseur appreciates wines in all taste ranges from sweet to acidic, spicy to fruity but knows what situation and food pairing is appropriate for the wine. The skill is to find the wines that are crafted well in any variety or from any terroir.

If you like mid-range Rieslings, meaning not very sweet, not very dry, I think you would enjoy this one. Thanksgiving isn't too far off and this would be a perfect wine for the dinner if you are serving traditional turkey day grub. With the sweetness of cranberries, yams and other rich foods, this would pair well for those not wanting a dry or oaky wine. I plan on serving it as the softer wine option at my table along with a Kosta Browne Pinot Noir for the red crowd.

Don't sell yourself short for liking sweeter wines, Sweet wines ARE real wines. Every style of wine has it's place. Even if you like sweet wine with a steak, it is for your enjoyment, so have at it.

Funbunny is pretty accurate in placing this in a sweetness range of mid-range Rieslings. My wife enjoyed the fruitiness while sitting in the late afternoon sun of the summer and I'm looking forward to renewing our stock of it to carry us into fall. It is a particularly nice wine to bring out when friends arrive and you are not sure how a drier white will sit with them. And you sure can't beat the price.

Very exciting!

I guess the downside is that it will make it a lot harder to hide my extravagant purchases from swmbo.

Ok, so I'm done with the lawn and the Triacipedis II is chilled. Riesling definitely takes the front stage. The nose is floral green apple, with the floral not too perfumed. The palate shows great acidity that keeps the 2% residual sugar from being cloying, with slightly citrus-like strong green apple flavors that pair perfectly with a sunny day on the deck and light salty snacks. I'm in for another 6, and I'm sure I'll kick myself later for not taking a case.

Yay! I've been waiting for this since I missed the May offering and missed it in a wootoff too. Thanks Woot, in for 2! It's gonna be summer in FL until Nov.

With my budget, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it comes back here, and I'll count myself lucky if I can afford 2. But if you really need it . . .

I know I'm alone in this, but I was mostly unimpressed with the Cathedral. I bought four, and the first one was really quite good, but the second and third were bitter and poor to the point that it made me question whether or not that first one really was good or if the price tag made me want to think it was good. Not knocking Harvey, I'm usually quite the fan of his wines, but I doubt I'll ever grab the Cathedral again (I am cellaring the fourth in the hopes that maybe the other two were just too young, so another maybe there to change my mind for me as well).

When you hit "reply" there should automatically be two quote tags surrounding the text to be quoted (they would look like this:

[ quote ]This is the text to quote.[ /quote ]

just without the spaces in between the brackets and the text "quote" and "/quote". The result looks like this:

This is the text to quote.

And you can add the "who" part by adding a "user" clarifier. If you're accidentally deleting one of the tags (happens a lot when people only want part of the quote) then it won't display properly. It's called BBcode (or a modified version of it, anyway) and it's a super simplified mark-up language for formatting within bulletin boards and blogs. You can click the "formatting guide" link in the lower right just below the text box (when you're making a post) if you want to learn more.

..and to post about the Triacipedis:

I quite enjoyed it, way way more than the Albino Rhino. I'd order more but I'm just not that much of a white drinker (he says after just checking the cellar and seeing 5 of the 6 still left from the previous order). Also, to be fair, I live in Portland, the weather rarely lends itself to whites.

And that pun is funnier when you realize it's more ironic than racist.

My friends and I enjoyed the Kaleidescope as a nice summer sipper, enough to get a second six, but it needs to be well-chilled (and is disgusting with macadamia nuts). The Triacipedis is less sweet, more floral and less melon-y and is lovely at a wider range of temperatures. It is a great sipper and food wine (when the bottle lasts until dinner). I think I just talked myself into another six.

You just talked me into 6 as well... thanks for the report!

Edit: Aaaaagh sold out while I was typing this! Clearly I should've bought first, thanked later...

I received my "shipment notification" on Sept 27th. FEDEX says they received shipment notice on Sept 23rd. It's now Sept 29th. Any clue what's going on? Should I just contact paypal to cancel this order???

No need to cancel - this is pretty typical for the Fedex tracking info and I just went through the same thing with the Ramsay Pinot Noir. The tracking info apparently gets sent to Fedex well before the package itself is on its way. So you get an initial delivery date that is roughly a week too early and the puzzlement of seeing you are at/past delivery and the package hasn't gone anywhere yet. Keep waiting for it and probably early to middle of next week it will suddenly show some actual tracking info as it crosses the country, and a more accurate delivery date!

These were sent summer shipping- meaning they're on their way, but they're on a refrigerated Woot truck rather than a FedEx truck. I usually notice that FedEx actually has my wine when the guy shows up on my doorstep.

These and my Albino Rhino just updated today...FedEx should have them here on October 5th.

Is there a good FAQ or something regarding when to expect Summer shipping and what that means to orders?

I would have ordered regardless, but it would have been nice to know that when I got that first FedEx update it was a false alarm.

Boom. Delivery today of the Triacipedis and the InZINerator. They hang out there on the fedex site like abandoned orphans...nobody knows where they are...then boom. On my doorstep. Or actually my desk at work. Never fails. Patience is a virtue. Life goes on.

Ok, now I'm really pissed too. My Sextant zin finally showed up in FedEx's system. On a truck in Reno.

So, I pay for summer shipping, which we really don't need at this point in the year in Michigan but whatever, then they hold the shipment for 19 days (presumably because of a heat wave- there's no other good reason for both of these to take that long)? I already paid to have it shipped in a refrigerated truck!

And since this was purchased after the Sextant, no doubt it will be the same situation.

I am not a happy wooter.

quality posts: 8 Private Messages Woody1

Got mine today, and I am not thankful woot because it wasn't shipped until the 5th of October. It wasn't shipped in a refrigerated truck and the temp here today was 80 degrees. You have sold 29 items between the purchase of this woot and todays sellout of your 12oz bottles of 5 year anniversary wine.woot

Show some love for those that built woot and at the very least acknowledge the 4 emails and constant whining I had to do just to get what I paid for a month ago to be delivered.

Try giving me a B-Day present once a year!
