I didn't watch the race but I can't believe a 20 year old won! How did he get a sponsor at that age??? I bet he's excited!

I just had to explain to my mother that she will have to call the courthouse where she has jury duty to find out where to park. That I can't miraculously tell her, as I have only been to the town where the courthouse is twice in my life, as a child...

*sigh*

"Can't you look it up on a map?" I tried, the maps aren't that clear.

Didn't she ask you to call?

I've been reading about that. I thought the best driver in the fastest car won. When did car racing become a team sport?

LOL - no, thank goodness. She has to call anyway. Their jury duty isn't like mine - they have a 3 month period that they could be called on, and have to call each week to see if they need to report.

She did call me after though to ask why she couldn't get her caps lock off. She said she hit the caps lock button but it won't cut off.

I gave the ever faithful "Restart your computer"

Saw a new site to lurk in. Thought I'd stop by and add my race thoughts...

It's Daytona's new track that they have to do a Noah's ark drafting. Very scary to watch. 60 or so lead changes in one race. New record there. They had to slow them down with smaller restricter plates. All that equals a big mess and "gee whiz" bigger viewing audience.

The youngster that won had only run in one other Nationwide race..He got lucky as hell and may have a great future in NASCAR.

Once college B-ball is done, we have 5 months until football. Damn.............

It has been a team sport for some time.An owner may have 2 or more cars in a race and they would help the better car reach the front. The difference now is because of safer cars and tracks as well as better engineered cooling systems they can run like that where as before they could not run bumper to bumper for very long, as matter of fact they were forbidden to do so for safety reasons.
There is also the downside as Maggie points out that because of the improvements they have lessened the disaster factor which has lowered the reason that many watch the sport in the first place. This new way of racing increases the potential for big wrecks but I believe can only be used effectively on newer sufaced smoothed out tracks.

In the end only kindness matters

So wouldn't it be a better and safer race if they were once again forbidded to do so?

It's like everything else, it's all about the money and the more "danger factor" the more fans will watch hoping something bad will happen. Someone will be killed and they'll have to think of something else.

So if a stable has two horses in a horserace, one should run in front of the other?

Weird, can't remember taking that bag away from the dog, but I'm watching the Saturday night live special and I remember the punch lines of the skits done in 1977.

Without going into a breakdown of the whole business structure of pro racing the short version is:
There can only be one winner. Usually one car/driver combination is working better on a given day than another. The owners make their money based on sposorship and sponsors make their money on advertising value being associated with a winner and the camera time given to the winning vehicles during a race. The more camera time the higher a premium can be demanded for advertisement with the owner's car/driver. Multiple car/drivers are hedging the bet with more potential money making winning franchises.

No..the trainer puts them in different races.

In NASCAR, teams own more than one car. Different drivers, sponsors, lots of egos...

Guess it boils down to money, with ego coming in second.

It's amazing the apps available now.

I just downloaded a police scanner app.

We definitely have a missing or possibly a runaway child in our area who the police are searching for....

No, it is gone. I didn't delete it. Son used my computer, maybe it was deleted by mistake?
But I wasn't on that page.

It came up not available? It never did that before either.
That was always a problem, you never knew if the person got the PM.

Last PM I deleted was begging Gman to open a yammer. He was ignoring me. I think.

I saw that app. Didn't download it though. I don't need to know which parties are getting busted.

I'd love to know your favorite apps though.

I have the scanner app, metal detector, bubble level are some of my favorite novelty apps.
I use the covert anything to anything (temps measurements etc.) most though. I got tired of doing them mentally.

Have a level app, looking for a level surface to calibrate it on. found several metal detectors, found a lot of conversion utilities, which one is it that you like?

Hell, if nobody else post here, I will.

Dog park was a muddy mess.
The most wet part was right where you go in and out. No way to avoid it.

School is out this week, no no walking in the woods. It seems people got caught walking in the woods. Don't know if the dogs were off leash or not. $250 fine. Hummmm, that isn't worth it. I though it was closer to fifty bucks.

Went straight from the dog park to the self dog wash place.
I am now the owner of a clean dog.
At least until his night walk, when he rolls in the dirt.

Oh, maybe not, he is by the back door, he will roll in the dirt right now!

Nail trim on Saturday. He jumped on me and put a hole in my shirt and scratched my belly.
Too bad they can't trim them way back, but there is the vein, that you can't see, in there.

I'm going to drawer some draws over here.

while pulling up my draws.

Trying to pack up the damn monkeys and get them ready to mail.
I should look through my box of crap and see if there is anything I could send from that.
Most of the stuff in there is electronic and I'm sending this box back into the past.
No internet on that atoll.
I had a nice rubber ball, like you play hand ball with, but Rusty must have stolen it.
