I've had their PS and really enjoyed it, especially at the WTSO price. I'm probably in for one.

I would've definitely been in for a sampler pack of their wares or a PS set, but I've still got some Noceto and plenty of Italians around, so this looks like a pass for me, despite the good reviews.

What an interesting twist on this wine... Enkidu was the main figure in the tale of Gilgamesh set in Sumeria where wine was supposedly first made.

Anyone know how these compare to the Noceto offering? Their 2008 riserva (I think it was) has been my favorite Woot offering thus far.

EDIT: Sorry, looks like it was a 2007 by Noceto http://wine.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=3939882

Here's Noceto's best offering. Noceto Scores

Looks like today's W.W. gets on average a few points higher. I'm in for one, hope to get a future Rat for Friday's offering perhaps?

There's only one CT review for the Enkidu, though.

Out of the Noceto pack, I still have the Riserva and regular bottles on my rack, but I thought the Reward Ranch was fantastic and the Hillside was so-so.

My favorite was the straight up 2007 Sangiovese... the Red Foil. Let that baby decant for about an hour and wow, what a great tasting juice! My Uncle, who's tasted wine much longer than I have even said it tasted like the Sangiovese from Italy.

"Enkidu is a central figure in the Ancient Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh. In the story he is a wild-man raised by animals and ignorant of human society until he is bedded by Shamhat. Thereafter a series of interactions with humans and human ways bring him closer to civilization, culminating in a wrestling match with Gilgamesh, king of Uruk. Enkidu embodies the wild or natural world, and though equal to Gilgamesh in strength and bearing, acts in some ways as an antithesis to the cultured, urban-bred warrior-king. Enkidu then becomes the king's constant companion and deeply beloved friend, accompanying him on adventures until he is stricken ill. The deep, tragic loss of Enkidu profoundly inspires in Gilgamesh a quest to escape death by obtaining godly immortality."

this was actually told (in a simplified version) in one of my favorite episodes of "star trek TNG" by captain picard. geeky, i know...but it was an excellent episode.

methinks i'll be in for one here in AZ, despite the heat...supposed to cool down later this week...

The Reward Ranch was otterific! In fact all Vino Noceto's I've had have been great.

On the voicemail, Phil said he'd blended some Petite Sirah into this to fill out the mid-palate and cut the acidity a bit. How much PS did you (Phil) add?

From the website: "For further mid-palate richness we blended in 7% Syrah and 7% Petite Sirah."

a pH of 3.66 seems about right, too high and you might sacrifice some structure. With a Brix of 25.5 - 27.0° is the alcohol going to be somewhere between 15-16% ?

I knew Woot descriptions were always lousy with typos - but I didn't know they could even make a typo while copying and pasting!

Those notes seems to be describing a Pinot Noir given the clonal info.

Cabernet Franc: it's not just for blending! It's also for blogging.

According to their Facebook page, the winery is also selling this wine for $105 a case. No idea about the shipping costs:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenwood-CA/Enkidu-Wines/129361794354

Probably ends up being in line with this deal when you take shipping into account, plus you don't have to risk buying a whole case.

On one hand, this sounds like it'll be a very new world super-ripe cherry jam type of Sangio. But for $14 per bottle delivered, this probably is more interesting than whatever spoofy Chianti the big producers have cooked up for the American market. I wouldn't expect a super-fresh and earthy sort of Sangio, though.

The winery is in Kenwood (Sonoma) and the appellation is Napa; so I'm guessing no.

Grrr... The Facebook offer is a much better deal. Shipping would have to be $50 for the w.w deal to be better. Will I regret pushing that stupidly large button??

Doesn't look to be a wootworthy deal. The 60% case discount makes me think smoke taint is very likely.

This is an a ge-old practice in CA. When the rpm tourists dug a bottle out from Scott Harvey 's cellar we learned from WineSmith and Scott that The 1967 Martini Sangiovese was 49% PS, very commonly done to add body etc.

What did you lilke about the Noceto folks? I still find it tight and dark. with little fruit, high acid and light body. No structure or flavours to write home about. Not like the eady-drinking Italian ones I vaguely remember from Europe. What am I missing? And I used Vinturi and decanting.
