How's about one of them clues to go along with our 4 pounds of olives?

Will they refuse to deliver my olives if I am drunk when they arrive?

Why is that? I guess I don't think wine and olives together much, but then I've never been a huge fan of straight up olives either.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you right away. Olives have a lot of oil/fat and wine a lot of acid. One counter balances the other. When we do tastings the olives, cheese & bread disappear almost as fast as the wine.

I just went to a local tasting, and they had Olives (w/ Anchovies, IIRC) to taste with some Basque wines Getariako Txakolina. Which helped the wine.

St. Francis something? (Sorry, did not memorize the chapter in the official bio about your former home towns. Didn't know it would be on the final!)

Any idea on when these will start to ship and how long it will take to arrive at the destination? (I'm in Northern California)

I'm leaving for a week, I doubt they will arrive by Friday and hoping they won't arrive until after the 16th.

Any way I can get my shipment delayed?

I've contacted our vendor about this. I know they can't delay shipping your olives, but we can see if the package can be held at the nearest FedEx hub. I'll update with his response tomorrow.

FWIW, I'm in AZ and I just got an email from Woot today. Fedex site says it has received shipping info, though it has an expected ship date of the 4th and expected delivery date of today. Not likely if they don't actually have the package yet. My guess is it will arrive sometime next week 9th-13th August. Hmmm,,, next Friday is a 13th - cool!

Hmmm, showing shipping info rec'd on the 4th, with an expected arrival date of the 11th...

Ah Well, I was going to save them for Labor Day w/e anyways...as long as they're here by then

Finally some actual info... looks like Fedex just picked mine up this afternoon in Windsor CA. No expected delivery date listed yet, but with a little luck I'll have olives by the weekend!

Says mine was picked up today too, but mine shows an estimated delivery date of tomorrow so I don't think that is gonna happen. Oh well, it'll still probably get here by the end of the week since it isn't being shipped "smart"post.

OK I really need an update on what's going on with shipping for these. The shipping info was supposedly registered on 8/4 and the only update is today which says the item was picked up. Delivery date has now been changed to 8/13 and 9 days in shipping with no temperature control is not my idea of fun with food stuffs. Woot staff what is going on here? Update us please?

I think a big part of people's issues with shipping are FedEx's fault, not Woot's. FedEx apparently calculated estimated delivery dates as if the package was picked up as soon as they got the shipping information, even if the shipper is holding the package for some period of time.

Moral of the story: DON'T TAKE FEDEX's ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATES AS GOSPEL!

Sorry for yelling, but it bears repeating. Don't take FedEx's estimated delivery dates as gospel. Once the package is picked up and moving, it may be more accurate (but it may not!), and the only way you'll really know for sure when the package is coming is when it's "out for delivery" (though given some of the FedEx stories I've seen here, even that isn't always completely accurate).

My guess is that they held the olives over the weekend. Mine are currently in Kansas City, catching a Royals game I suppose, and should be here by Thursday. Which means by Friday morning my body will be approximately 14% olive brine.

@k1avg

You confuse my interest in getting actual shipping info with me caring what fedex says about the delivery date. I shouldn't get a ship notification on 8/4 if the items don't actually ship until 8/9 or 8/10.

Well, my comment was directed more towards the community at large than you personally, so I apologize if it seemed I was chastising you.

Still, while I understand your point, I don't really mind getting an email when shipping info is created even if the box hasn't left the warehouse yet and won't for a little while, as long as I understand that's a possibility. I think it is more than a little confusing for some that Woot's emails say "your order has shipped!" even when it hasn't.

I just received mine! I'm very happy, I really like the herbs/seasonings in the brine. I can see these will become very addicting.

I'm unfortunately unable to shed any light on the strainer issue. I didn't see one... but I could have missed it. I didn't dig too deep into the olives as I was rushing to leave for work.

Edit: Found the strainer. It was buried pretty deep in the olives.

Just got mine, too (So Cal) - with strainer on top. I poured off about a cup of the (delicious) brine so that I could see the olives. The strainer did as expected.

Off to make a salad...

Hey Wooters, just a heads up: If your olive mix container went through a rough ride during shipping, you might notice some minor leakage on the barrel. This is normal due to the type of lids we use. Enjoy!

schrody

quality posts: 6 Private Messages schrody

Mine arrived today. One barrel of each... yumyumyum.

The brine/oil looked cloudy, no doubt that is normal due to the seasonings added. I wonder if I'm supposed to mix/shake first or what? I have a nice wire scoop that will allow me to extract olives without the strainer, but I saw it and looks like it would be very handy if one wanted to pour off the juice and leave the olives in the container.

One of mine was dry; the other had just a hint of oil near the top, but that seemed to be because of an ill-fitting rubber seal (actually larger than the "cup" it fit on!) but the delicious contents were still fully submerged and none the worse for it.

Mine also arrived. One barrel had no leak whatsoever, one with just a tiny bit of oil. They are crazy good. And the brine/olive oil is amazing in and of itself. Strainer intact, though I did not need it today.

Also, it was extremely hot here in southeast Virginia today. And, while the olives arrived VERY warm, they were clearly no worse for the wear.

About the strainer: keep it in the barrel it helps to keep the olives submerge in the brine and they will last longer... Bon Appetit!!

Got my 3.6 kg today, also, (er, yesterday, now, I guess) and must say the only regret I have is that I didn't order THREE!...

Also, if I may suggest: use a non-metallic utensil to retrieve the olives so as to avoid any reaction with the brine... I use a wooden pasta fork which is slotted and also has a shallow depression which yields about one-third cup of drained Delicious with every scoop...

It looks as if maniimports.com doesn't sell these directly and that the Greek mix is normally sold in a 27 lb size. Oh, well.

You are right - they do not seem to sell direct. I wrote a woot whine/wine to the masterful olive wranglers and am hoping they can turn me on to a distributor in my area.

I'm disappointed.

The oil/brine/herbs is lovely, but the olives themselves (with pits) are mushy. I thought manii said these were pretty much fresh off the olive tree, so I expected them to have some texture (al dente, if this were pasta).

Additionally, the rubber gasket (band) over the inner lid was stretched out so the oil was leaking.

The strainer was a flat, perforated plastic circle with a tab. You need to dig into the brine to fish it out (licking my fingers afterward was luscious, though) and then, if I understand its usage, you have to wrangle the olives up and over it. A spoon did the service well enough.

I'll eat them cuz they're here, but the second one I intended to give as a gift will stay in the domicile.

Frustrating; I LOVE olives and feel guilty I didn't just keep buying various types from one of my favorite Brooklyn shops, Sahadi (sahadis.com) I don't think they sell their perishables by mail, though.
