*** Thread Hi-jack ***

Final call for confirmations from the attendees for the Woot Cellars Celebration! If you're a "maybe", keep your heads up, since it looks like we're about to have a bunch of spots open up. Please let me know by tomorrow if you're listed as an attendee and you're planning to come. Come Sunday, I'm pulling people off the list and stuffing everyone under Maybe, then it'll be first-come-first-served.

Tannins are still quite prominent, but some of a dark fruit, say a blackberry covered with plum puree, shines through. The tannins are still too drying on the palate. I'm going to pour back into the bottle and chill until tonight. No smoke notes, but Ty already said that. I'm interested enough in where this wine will go to abandon my SIWBM and go in for two.

I think you must have waited to long. I will take Ty's advice and decant for a good 15 to 20 minutes

Cheers!

I bought 2 sets after the woot off. It's good to see a lot of newbies on board. For those who haven't dabbled with Petite Sirah, its not your typical red. Its dark and complex, and will usually leave your tongue, teeth and toothbush purple. But IMHO, I think its the closest thing to nectar of the gods. And with Ty at the helm, I dont think you could go wrong.

Each Petite Sirah is different, but most will fall into the big and bold range of reds. Our resident expert on PS, PetiteSirah, could expound more on what to expect from PS, but I would surmise that your biggest Cab Sauv would fall in line flavorwise with the mid-range of PS and your biggest Petite Sirah's would reside in a universe of their own.

How good is this deal?

Well whadda ya know? I didn't do the spreadsheet yesterday because I thought there'd be a different offer up today, but looky here -- Ty is still in the house.

So ... if you're still trying to decide, or didn't do the math for CT prices yourself (it's not like this is a tricky one), click the link above for full discount details, CT prices, and all the usual jazz.

I ordered 1 as soon as I saw it up (which is now automatic for any Ty), But, it just kept nagging at me, so I upped my order to 2. Ty's wines are good enough to pay retail, but I'm so glad to have the discount on Woot so I can afford (allegedly) more.

Doubtful, since he doesn't grow it. His current releases are here.

There's also the Racchus label (field blend red - that 2005 we all love, and a Chardonnay), and I heard a rumour of some other labels. If it's the Ty Caton label, I'd bet on the Malbec or '08 field blend - neither have been on woot. The Merlot was just on sale elsewhere for good, but not-as-good-as-woot prices.

Personally, I'm curious to try his Riesling and PS Port.

Question on decanting....Do I just let it sit in the decanter for 4 hours before drinking? I know temperature of wine is important, so will that make the wine too warm, or what???

Also - is woot the cheapest way to get Ty's wines?

Wow my first quality post! Did anyone have an answer about decanting? Looks like Ty said 20 minutes decanting, where did this 4 hour figure come from?

Where is the '05 Racchus Red available? The Racchus website isn't clear on that, and wine-searcher (not pro) only showed a store or two in NYC, which is 3 time zones away from me.

I got mine at the winery on two separate occasions, the last one being several months ago. It might be gone, though, I don't know.

Thank you for the data: always much appreciated! Now, a different but related Q: This is about $25 a bottle rather than the approx $15 a bottle for the Ursa. Can it be that much better?

HitAnyKey42 wrote:Also he was stating it should LAST for 25 years. Not that you need to wait 25 years to open it. Basically, my assumption would be to drink it anytime between now (needing a couple hours decanting) and 2020. If you still have a bottle past 2020, then hold onto it until 2028 and then drink by 2033.

Man, Ill be in my 70 or 80's by then!! If I can still pull the cork or remember where the basement is, it may be nice to have around. I'll probably be back using a sippy cup and drooling down the side of my mouth!! But I'll think young and use my venturi and decanter after it sits some after arrival. I'm in.

Ty normally would be an auto-buy of in for 3 for me, but I'm trying to stick at least partially to my SIWBM. So at most I should only get 2 bottles, but would prefer the $25.80/ea as opposed to the $27.50/ea. (yup, that $1.50 makes a big difference )

Also, if you really want to open a Ty PS for the Sip-n-Sail weekend I can always trade you one of my 2006's for one of your 2008's.

If you have a Vinturi you're good to go. I think it is a waste of time to not use the tool if you have it. Taste it without the Vinturi then taste it with it. Best way to drink "young" wines

I thought I read that you can't use Paypal for wine anymore. If so, it doesn't make sense that the order was allowed to go through in the first place.

From woot staff:

agingdragqueen wrote:I apologize, the problem is likely revolving around the fact that we are no longer accepting PayPal for Wine.Woot orders, though we will still be accepting Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Because of this, and because we have not yet ironed out all the bugs, if you have PayPal selected as your primary funding source before you click "I Want One" on Wine.Woot, the site will kick you out. At this time, to get around this bug, you will need to go to "My account" at the top of the page, at the "How Will You Pay?" section, select the credit card radio button (you will not have to input a credit card number at this time) and then at the bottom of the page, click on the "update your info" button. After doing that, you will be able to click "I Want One" and purchase the wine with no further issues.

Agreed. It wasn't supposed to work at all now...

mattschuette wrote:The bug from earlier this week has been fixed, and PayPal will no longer be accepted for alcohol purchases. We apologize for any ordering issues, and PayPal is now valid for the current sale.

A more technical explanation is that wine sales will, going forward, be charged to you directly from the winery. Our credit card processor has this ability, but PayPal (or our current implementation thereof) does not.

Hmmmm. I wonder why mine was singled out? I thought maybe they had changed their minds about taking paypal for wine because it worked for me all thru the woot-off.

I sure liked the convenience of paying with paypal and it will surely put a damper on my wine.woot buying.

And now, Kansas isn't on the ship to list even after we were told it was. Maybe thats why mine was refunded - no shipping. I sure wish we were told why these things happen.
