Okay, I bit the bullet and am in for one. Like the other poster above, I just made my most expensive per-bottle wine purchase. :P At least it was a very worthy purchase on which to use my woot! BD code (and thanks so much for that, woot!).

Maybe by the time I drink these, my palate will be able to appreciate them. I'm still at the point where I can tell if a wine isn't a good wine, but can't really tell much difference between a good wine and an excellent wine, nor explain why a good wine is good other than using words like "juicy," "smooth," and "yum." I hold off on purchasing more expensive wines because I feel the extra money is wasted on my palate! (And as I don't have an unlimited budget, I wonder how smart it is to cultivate a palate that IS able to appreciate more expensive wines!)

I think you'll be able to tell when you drink this, can't imagine you'll be disappointed at all. The only people with regrets will be the ones who don't order.

Big jump but worth it since I can't seem to find it anywhere around here. Just bought a case of Monday's deal and a case of Greg Norman when Cellar 360 called last week with the great deal that they had on. With all the previous wines in my collection, you think I lived in a liquor store or that is what my friends say when they visit. But can't turn this one down!!!! Time to start drinking a little more each evening.
Ty - what would you say is the biggest difference between the 2004 and 2006. Hey, why weren't we offered the 2005???

In checking the old deal calculator sheets, it looks like the 2004 relative price via woot was $23.83 (with shipping, compared to a single order from the winery). Of course, at the time, Ty Caton was selling the 2004 TyTanium for $49.

Speaking of, any chance we're going to see Field Blend back on Woot sometime soonish? I love them both but FB crushes TYT in terms of QPR. And I just gave a precious FB bottle to my handyman for being awesome, because that's what awesome deserves.

Automatic in for 3. Got a bunch from the 50% off deal and it's very very good

I'd say I'd open a bottle tonight for those on the fence, but no one should be on the fence about it

the 2003 cab is the best bottle we've ever gotten from woot, and resulted in us joining their club. I wish we had been able to go when we were at the 8th St area

Here's my request for the winemaker - when are we getting an 8th St Wineries club? I love most everything I've had from them and wish I could join all the clubs individually, but it's just too expensive.

Even I can't pass up an offer like this. The last I bought was in May with the Ty Caton offer then. I bought 3, so for those of you unemployed once you get employed and you are looking for a bottle I can sell you one or more for the woot price. There is but one caveat - I won't ship it so somehow you have to meet me in person.

I have called them and there is no way to set the factory setting to a different temperature. I think I paid around $900 and ordered on-line.

I just recently purchased an Avanti 155 bottle model. I purchased it because my 36 bottle one was way too small and this one had the features I wanted, looked good with my kitchen and was in my price range. Delivery is free and it came in about two weeks. It has one compressor and uses a fan to regulate the temperature in the two zones, but actually works pretty well at keeping it consistent.

It's technically a free-standing unit but the compressor has airflow to the front so it's suitable for a recessed installation also. Right now it's just kind of sitting in the kitchen but we're getting new cabinets in January so we can give it a built-in look at that time. The door is stainless & glass tinted with a UV-protective coating and the wood shelves pull out. There are three kinds of shelves to accommodate all sizes of bottles, but if you have more than, say, ten magnums, you might be in trouble. The 5-year extended warranty the site gives is a nice bonus, too.

The fruit notes after the attack are now unripe, green, pithy, zesty. There's almost something medicinal and there are a lot more green notes overall, almost like some Cab Franc snuck in.

Mouthfeel and structure are substantial, and this wine is drinking pretty well now - it doesn't feel too young but would drink well for a few more years I'd bet. Finish is shockingly short and very drily woody, with maybe a bit of earth or clay in there.

Now, now, let's not blame Cab Franc for everything!

Critic Steve Heimoff says essentially the same thing on '04: "This Bordeaux-Rhône blend is rustic and dry, with significant tannins. It has earthy, herb, berry and spice flavors that finish with a touch of bitterness."

Sounds like a ripe, highly extracted (I sometimes associate herb-y flavors with high extraction in otherwise very ripe wines) wine with a large percentage of new oak. But with some interesting or potentially off-putting angular edges to it.

Cabernet Franc: it's not just for blending! It's also for blogging.

I have two of the Avanti 166 bottle fridges, it definitely doesn't hold 166 but it's probably the best value out there for wine fridges (I think I can fit about 150 in each one due to the bottle sizes). It does drive me nuts that the thermostat resets on a power outage but so does the thermostat on my little Vinotemp 36 bottle fridge. It'd be nice if they'd stick a little battery in there to preserve the temperature setting.

Yeah, I'm not a CF fan. :P At all. I think I'd even rather drink Chardonnay.

I hadn't thought to compare it to Bordeaux-Rhone style blends but I sort of see it - this has a lot more heft to it, typically Cali in that way - and that I like about it.

The nose is really perfect, as is the colour and depth of hue - just gorgeous. Attack is lovely. But the palate and finish just don't do it for me and that's most of the time it's in my mouth, alas. The nose promises so much fruit and then it's all gone so quickly.

I also have chronic drymouth, so I dislike wines that are really drying without some juiciness to compensate. I want some juiciness in a red, and I don't get any here. Further decanting didn't help either - even more of the fruit has faded, and it's bitter green sawdust (and rosemary?!).

I am not knowledgeable or experienced enough at this point to pinpoint whether the herbaceous qualities are due to overextracted fruit. Tasting this wine was a very interesting experience, but it's not a wine that I'll want to drink again, or drink in quantity. I think the rest of my bottle is destined for the stewpot.

My mid-week orders seem to be shipping the following week, midway and arriving late in the week. My Michael David order (10/29) shipped 11/3 and arrived on 11/6 (SoCal).

So chances are that it will ship early next week, and arrive before Thanksgiving.

My wife and I are Ty Caton wine club members because of Ty's 2004 TyTanium that I purchased on Woot. We just visited the tasting room with another couple two weeks ago on a visit to Sonoma. Ty was there to do the tasting with us and we kept him so long he was even late leaving on his vacation. (Thanks again Ty!) All the wines we tasted were outstanding, but the 2006 Tytanium was exceptional, even among the other superb wines. Needless to say, our friends are now club members too.

This is an unbelievable deal, do not miss this one! I'm in for one and I already have a regular shipment from the club due this week.
