Starting this here so as not to interfere with the event in planning in progress over there.

So, Chicagoans, in case y'all aren't on Facebook...

I'm having a SERIOUS Cotes du Rhone craving. To the point of pondering leaving here after picking up my friend from the airport on Saturday and heading to Chi-town for dinner. SERIOUS craving. Anyone wish to join?

tommy's already indicated interest. I'm aiming for a 7pm seating. I intend to bring my 2006 Château Saint-Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The more people that come, the more wine I will bring. Y'all don't need to bring any.

Let me know!

I saw HitAnyKey42 on wine.woot! and clicked "I want one!"

7 sounds alright to me, but again this is all based on whether or not I can get away from the shop.

I'm flexible. I have to pick up a friend from the airport here at 1pm, so assuming his flight is on time, I can probably be leaving here around 2. Figured on 5 hours drive time putting me into Chicago/hotel at 6, so 7, 7:30. 8. Whatever. I'll give you a call when I'm either leaving or approaching Chicago, and you let me know what time is OK for you so I don't have to be eating alone

Well the shop closes at 9. I don't think it is going to be a problem getting out of here early, but I have been wrong many times before.

We'll figure it out. They're open til 11:30, so whatever

BTW, I'll be staying at the Hotel Indigo in Schaumberg. I know it's out of the way of everything, but I don't care. It's free.

Can't beat free.

funny dat. Indigo is owned by IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) a behemoth in the hospitality space. but when IHG first launched Indigo 3+ years ago, how should the good folks at another behemoth react upon hearing the name (which good folks i had the pleasure of working with at the time)? 'they should charge by the hour.' :D

*digs up another bottle of wine*

Yay! I might even bring out a third bottle of something now. I'm not guaranteeing anything but the C-d-P being any good, but they will all be French

(So if you're smart, you'll go into my cellar, and look for the French wines in there, and figure out what I'm bringing)

Just FYI, I think I'm going to push the timing back to 8pm instead to give me a little extra wiggle room to get out there, and to give tommy a little extra chance to be there on time.

So 8pm, Cotes du Rhone. Be there.

well, they are not French, but i would suggest...

2004 Madison Cellars Serendipity (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)
(red rhone blend)
2005 Zardini Valpolicella Superiore (Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore) (cuz i like valpos)

juice for thought...

I will also bring a backup of something French.

Yep, friend's flight is running late by about 40 minutes. So now I probably won't be leaving here until 2:30.

Pushing back dinner til 8:30. Hope this doesn't cause too much of an issue... I haven't made reservations yet since the time was kind of wiggly. Do you guys think I need to make res?

As it turns out, thank you for making the reservation for me anyway Packed house!

and a big thank you to all three of you for coming out to help me indulge in my craving.

shut up tommy.

The company was unbeatable, the laughs plenty...

shut UP tommy.

... and the food and wine were just outstanding Definitely going to have to find more of both the reds I brought out. So tasty! That Beaujolais just went down way too easily.

For any lurkers who'd like to know what we had:

2005 Potel-Aviron Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes (Buy this. Find it and buy it.)
2006 Château Saint-Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Phe.nom.en.al. It's really young and needs air but holy scaffolding so good.)
2001 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise (the white of the evening. deliciously old.)

I had brought out N.V. Crown Bench Estates Winery Ambrosia Chocolate Ice - Flavoured Icewine in case the Muscat had gone foul, but as it turns out, it hadn't. And so I donated it for next week's Chicago gathering since it sort of fits the theme. You're all in for a treat.

Tommy, against my instructions, brought out something... bergerac or something like that. I didn't like it. But that's ok.

Such a fun evening, thank you all again

Definitely good times *cough snails cough* and good fun. And thank you for being crazy and bringing out some excellent wine.
