Had a Poly in August while at the shore with friends. Still an easy drinker which everyone enjoyed. Had an EHP then as well, seemed good as ever.

I still got both of mine. I just don't have enough opportunities/reasons to open up a Mag. Maybe I should open one up, pour half of it into a Woot 750 to recork and put into the wine fridge for later, while I drink the other half.
Mag's last longer than 750s, so that's at least a plus.

I am pretty clueless about wine, but I know I have always loved the woot wines I have gotten, and they would be a fun, good quality/good price option for my informal reception.

I think you got a response on how to store it, but May 2010 should still be good, I would think, no matter how you store it (except if you completely cook it, of course). This may not be a wine to set down for years and years, but I cannot believe that it won't be good at least through the end of 2010 (probably even better then), and into 2011.

But I'm no expert, so take that advice as worth nothing more than the paper it is printed on. (you didn't print this out, did you?)

What better way to kick off the wine buying season after a long summer snooze than a Woot Cellars offering? The weather here in California's Central Valley is turning. Temps of 105+ give way to moderate days and cool nights. The wine is safe to ship again without fear of finding corks push half way out from heat expansion and the lovely taste of cooked wine.

This could probably not come at a more opportune time, as a look in the cellar over the weekend showed an alarming shortage of "Pizza" wine, as RPM so affectionately refers to. In for two. Let the wine season begin.

Woot Cellars = automatic in for me. Usually for a case, but since I have no more room anywhere to keep more wine, it's in for a 6 pack this time.

Now, for the fun - I'll have to have a wine-tasting party and put these up (blind) against some Turleys and see how they do. Mwahahaha.

Where are all the happy $10 per bottle people? They can buy like 18 of these (36 with some gifting). That way they can blissfully ignore the next $40+ per bottle offer.

I like this 3 offers per week idea. Sometimes I feel like I may 'miss out', but now the next deal is always a day or two away. More selection, yet easier to pass on an offer! In theory . . . .

That said, I opened one of my last two 2006 PoiZin's on Friday, and it has really mellowed out a LOT. Very smooth, still fruity, no heat anymore. I wish I had saved more of them until now; I enjoyed the ones I drank before, but not as much as the one I had this weekend.

Last year Poizin was offered as a side deal. I still have 2 of the 2007's left. Was hoping for a side deal again this year. Guess not

OK - let's see, alcohol and pH are high, but it's Dry Creek Valley Zin.... Wonder whose it is? Doubt it's Pedroncelli's, since their fruit's usually good enough they don't bulk it out anymore, and I'm sure it's not Lytton Springs fruit. But, still, unless it's underripe (think 1977.... the rain that caught those who didn't pick early, the cabbage smells), Dry Creek usually produces pretty solid Zin fruit that can be made into wine a cut above sound commercial wine. Risk up here is overripe wines that are too big and too tannic.

The interesting question here is did Woot Cellars buy fruit from someone who was in a bind, and hire a free-lancing winemaker to make the wine, or did David find a producer who'd made the wine and had to sell it at a price he could turn it into a Woot Cellars offering: i.e. quality solid, great QPR, and (undoubtedly and deservedly) enormously profitable for wine.woot?

Wonder if David will fess up on the origins of this stuff, if not the vineyard or the winery, at least whether he bought fruit or bulk wine....

It's certainly nothing I'm going to cellar, but I could use a box of current pizza sippers/party wine.

No prizes for guessing I bought the max....

I'd love a clue on the sourcing as well. I'd imagine there are some really good deals out there for negociant who keep their lips sealed!

Since there are 6 bottles, we can only order up to 2 sets (or 1 case) at a time. So 12 (regular) plus another 12 (gifting) is 24 bottles.

Unless of course you buy two more sets (36) via your 2nd Woot ID (and gift another two sets for a total of 48 bottles).

I'm guessing Pedroncelli myself. WD has a good relationship with them, and they say PS "planted on our vineyard since the early 1900s and used in our Zinfandel production as an important part of the blend." The high alcohol level suggests them to me as well (not that they're the only one's creating high-alc Zin).

Plus the technical specs are presented in exactly the same format as Pedronceilli does on their web site. Did they cut back production a bit on the friends.red?

It's hard to throw a rock in Dry Creek Valley and not hit some awesome Zin. PS is a common blending choice. Sounds like a fantastic opportunity at QPR, as always with Woot. And this is 2007(!) so I suggest quantity in ordering so as to let it age. While you're drinking some early on

Also, The specs for Pedroncelli seem to match up 100% with our boss monster (I was gonna use the initials for the wine, but on second thought...).

From Pedroncelli's site:
Composition: 89% Zinfandel 11% Petite Sirah Aging: 11 months in a blend of new French oak and seasoned American Oak Alcohol: 14.4% Acidity: .600 mg/100ml pH: 3.65

Could just be a coincidence, I'm a w00t wine n00b.

Also, in for 1!

A very few lucky Wine Wooters who get their order in before 10:00 a.m. Central Time on the first day of an offer will get an extra bottle by overnight delivery with the expectation that they will open it immediately and share their impressions here. It gives us some real-world information about the wine and adds a little excitement to Wooting.

I've found in the past that the Woot Cellars wines do get better with a little age on them. I wasn't thrilled with Humbug when it first came out, but it's getting better with 18 months on it. I'm letting my remaining Toothys and EHPs get some more age, even though I loved both at the outset.
