CAUTION: Dont enter if squemish/ or apt to get upset.

I kinda brought up politics in another thread and thought , well bring it here for those who dont/cant handle the discussion. I for one enjoy ALL discussions as this group seems well rounded. Although I do not agree with some views, It is still our right and responsibility to discuss and vote as a nation. What someone may say about Obama, I may never have realized. Although again I may not agree, I still am interested in hearing from all over the US others thoughts. Lets keep it civil. Any players?

Keeping a political discussion civil is as lofty a goal as uniting the two parties, noble, yet fruitless. I am also interested in reading what you all have to say about various candidates. Personally, I feel Obama is too young in his political career, give him 4 more years and I'd probably vote for him with no second thoughts. I don't know enough about McCain to form an opinion and Hilary is...well she's a politician and she's got a serious mean streak. I don't know that the Republicans have much chance this year after the bangup 8 years GW had, but then we elected him twice so who knows. Of the two Democrats I think Obama is a better long term candidate, but Clinton has the force of will to do some things that Obama probably couldn't get done. She just knows the game better.

Getting back to politicks............
I'm going to vote for Obama. I am certainly not well versed on what the issues are or what the candidate's stances are on them. I mean, I know Obama said he will pull out of Iraq, which I think is a good thing. But my main reason for voting for him is that he seems genuine. He has charisma. He has energy. He seems intelligent enough to do the job or at least able to surround himself with the right people. I'd vote for McCain before I would vote for Hillary. There's just something very....... Wicked Witch of the West about her. And talk about not being qualified! She was the President's wife, so she can probably do that job too????
McCain is creepy and probably just 4 more years of what George W. has been doing except without the stupid grin, (JWhite, I need a picture right here).
So, as TMR would say, that's my 2c.

I think we all agree, we want out of Iraq. But When? If we leave now will it cause a vacume for undesirables? I think of it like a problem child. We caused it and now we are responsible. I know hindsight but we cant change what we did. Obama just scares me. Give him a few more years and maybe. Just to inexperienced, like a 2 year old flying a plane; maybe he can but if he cant its a disaster.
Colin Powell?

Ok, so I have nothing to base my opinions on.

I liked McCain 8 yrs ago.

As someone from the state of Illinois I feel kind of gypped by Obama. So he gets elected to the Senate from this state, then immediately runs for President. I'm thinking he isn't really paying that much attention to his first job. Mebbe that's me.

I had a Hilary phase for about 5 minutes then I kind of realized that wasn't gonna happen.

So I am at the point where every 4 years I think... We have all these amazingly smart qualified people in this country. Why does it come down to 2 who are not in that category. Yeah, I say Corrado for pres....We blame him for everything anyway

Little Vineyards Trio began the slow start to the slippery slope. it was alllllllllll downhill from there!

I kept hoping W would have had him (Colin) as VP when Cheney had his heart prob.

What scares me about Obama is him defending his minister. You'd think someone in government (and politics) would know better. From what I've heard, it's not just the one time.

What scares me most about Hilary is having Bill C. back in the WH. brrrrr.

And I'm not as happy with McCain, but ehhh.

I just got out of a speech by him at our college - I got to shake his hand! It was pretty sweet, he's a fantastic orator. Regardless, I'm still going to vote for Obama.

If I had the choice though, I think I'd vote for Mr. Clinton again.

So now Obama says he would have left his Church if his Pastor didn't retire or concede he had offended people with his sermons. Yet wasn't the Pastor on his campaign? Wouldn't he have not had him be officially part of his campaign if he had these thoughts from the beginning? Silly politicians and their ability to use the wrong orifice to speak. He's not the only one, they all do.

Since the President has not had to go at it alone in over sixty years, I am more concerned with who can work well together and who can't. What Hillary has going for her is also what is going to bring her down: Her years in politics. She has made many friends but she has made many more enemies and that is not going to get it done in Washington. Barack is an excellent speaker but his lack of experience and lack of a very large political base is going to be his downfall (Colin Powell should have run when he had the chance). Unfortunately, McCain is going to run away with this election and we get four more years of "same ol, same ol" (and this will also put a crimp in the future plans of any woman or black man who attempts to run). Every fifty or so years, we finally get it right and elect a candidate that gets things done and brings this country together. We're getting there, just not yet.

See, I don't think the Republicans have much of a chance after Bush's 8 years of suck. To be fair, he got handed a raw deal, but he erred on some pretty major things, that's his advisors fault yes, but who picked his advisors. I'm okay with either of the Democrat candidates, haven't heard enough from McCain since he won early to have much opinion other than he's got the Pat Riley head.

And I'm in agreement with both of you, so there ya go.

If she gets the nomination I will vote for Hillary in November ONLY if it is clearly the case that Ohio is still "in play". (Which I imagine it will be, even given the (IMHO) positive trends of the last two years.)

I find it funny (funny sad, not funny ha-ha) that for all the talk of Obama and Rev. Wright, this "man of the cloth" continues to get precious little ink.

"While Hagee is busy trying to salvage his reputation and McCain has tried to distance himself from the pastor, it doesn’t mean that McCain isn’t willing to tout Hagee’s endorsement when he thinks it’ll be to his benefit politically, as he did in a recent interview with The Jewish Journal."

Not that much truth. She claimed the woman died due to lack of insurance. Nothing further from the truth. And the Post contradicted itself in the article. She was refused treatment for failure to pay a previous bill. They wanted $100 towards that previous unpaid bill. She's the one who postponed treatment.

The Post is still slanting the story towards Clinton, when she used unverified facts to support her claims. The whole point was that she was pushing health care insurance for everyone, when it obviously doesn't work (See England, Canada, etc.). That's why Canadians keep coming to the US for treatment. They can't get it in Canada.

Maybe we should get the Canadians' pill plan and they should get our health insurance.

Do you guys REALLY want to hear my side of this issue? If not stop reading. Under federal law all medicare accepting hospitals have to evaluate for emergency conditions. If an emergency is present then it must be cared for. If no emergency exist(both lay term and medical) the patient may be refered to an outside clinic for care for treatment.
Currently we see at our facility 25% self pay/no pay. I did an unofficial poll of them and 87% of the self pay owned a cell phone, 89% had either cable or dish tv, 79% smoked or drank alcohol. But yet unable to pay for insurance or their bill. This is why emergency dept. are closing at an alarming rate.
