Keeping a political discussion civil is as lofty a goal as uniting the two parties, noble, yet fruitless. I am also interested in reading what you all have to say about various candidates. Personally, I feel Obama is too young in his political career, give him 4 more years and I'd probably vote for him with no second thoughts. I don't know enough about McCain to form an opinion and Hilary is...well she's a politician and she's got a serious mean streak. I don't know that the Republicans have much chance this year after the bangup 8 years GW had, but then we elected him twice so who knows. Of the two Democrats I think Obama is a better long term candidate, but Clinton has the force of will to do some things that Obama probably couldn't get done. She just knows the game better.

Getting back to politicks............
I'm going to vote for Obama. I am certainly not well versed on what the issues are or what the candidate's stances are on them. I mean, I know Obama said he will pull out of Iraq, which I think is a good thing. But my main reason for voting for him is that he seems genuine. He has charisma. He has energy. He seems intelligent enough to do the job or at least able to surround himself with the right people. I'd vote for McCain before I would vote for Hillary. There's just something very....... Wicked Witch of the West about her. And talk about not being qualified! She was the President's wife, so she can probably do that job too????
McCain is creepy and probably just 4 more years of what George W. has been doing except without the stupid grin, (JWhite, I need a picture right here).
So, as TMR would say, that's my 2c.

Ok, so I have nothing to base my opinions on.
I liked McCain 8 yrs ago.
As someone from the state of Illinois I feel kind of gypped by Obama. So he gets elected to the Senate from this state, then immediately runs for President. I'm thinking he isn't really paying that much attention to his first job. Mebbe that's me.
I had a Hilary phase for about 5 minutes then I kind of realized that wasn't gonna happen.
So I am at the point where every 4 years I think... We have all these amazingly smart qualified people in this country. Why does it come down to 2 who are not in that category. Yeah, I say Corrado for pres....We blame him for everything anyway

What scares me about Obama is him defending his minister. You'd think someone in government (and politics) would know better. From what I've heard, it's not just the one time.
What scares me most about Hilary is having Bill C. back in the WH. brrrrr.
And I'm not as happy with McCain, but ehhh.
Whats wrong with Slick Willie? I liked him fine. Bad taste in women, but whatever

I agree 100% with smlauren, which I find simultaneously comforting and alarming. Does this put me closer to the elusive 8% of teachers whom you like, sm?

I think it was 8% of doctors. The percentage for teachers might be a little lower.

So now Obama says he would have left his Church if his Pastor didn't retire or concede he had offended people with his sermons. Yet wasn't the Pastor on his campaign? Wouldn't he have not had him be officially part of his campaign if he had these thoughts from the beginning? Silly politicians and their ability to use the wrong orifice to speak. He's not the only one, they all do.

What Hillary has going for her is also what is going to bring her down: Her years in politics. She has made many friends but she has made many more enemies and that is not going to get it done in Washington. Barack is an excellent speaker but his lack of experience and lack of a very large political base is going to be his downfall (Colin Powell should have run when he had the chance). Unfortunately, McCain is going to run away with this election and we get four more years of "same ol, same ol" (and this will also put a crimp in the future plans of any woman or black man who attempts to run). Every fifty or so years, we finally get it right and elect a candidate that gets things done and brings this country together. We're getting there, just not yet.

See, I don't think the Republicans have much of a chance after Bush's 8 years of suck. To be fair, he got handed a raw deal, but he erred on some pretty major things, that's his advisors fault yes, but who picked his advisors. I'm okay with either of the Democrat candidates, haven't heard enough from McCain since he won early to have much opinion other than he's got the Pat Riley head.

Just adding some fire to the wood ....
Yeah ... except the story is apparently more true than not.

And I'm in agreement with both of you, so there ya go.
If she gets the nomination I will vote for Hillary in November ONLY if it is clearly the case that Ohio is still "in play". (Which I imagine it will be, even given the (IMHO) positive trends of the last two years.)

I find it funny (funny sad, not funny ha-ha) that for all the talk of Obama and Rev. Wright, this "man of the cloth" continues to get precious little ink.
"While Hagee is busy trying to salvage his reputation and McCain has tried to distance himself from the pastor, it doesn’t mean that McCain isn’t willing to tout Hagee’s endorsement when he thinks it’ll be to his benefit politically, as he did in a recent interview with The Jewish Journal."
