Is Ron coming?

Looks like I'm in. It still isn't a sure thing, but I'm hoping my 7am meeting will only last an hour or two -- not turn into an all day affair.

I have dark chocolate buttercreams and mocha creams. I might even be able to find a bottle of wine -- no promises that it will be from Spain. *sigh* Living out of a hotel has its drawbacks.

So does living in a hotel.

Coincidentally, Garagiste currently has a Mencia for <$14 that Jon Rimmerman is thinking could be the Deal of the Year. I'd love to have one of those for tomorrow night.

Isn't that the 16th deal of the year so far?
I might bring a Garagiste wine...we shall see if we're feeling red or white tomorrow.

Yeah, I lost count. 16 might be about right. And it's still early July.

I'll grab my decanter and a couple of stems. Oh and I have the world atlas of wine with a nice section on the various spanish DO's. Maybe we can learn something too!

Sadly, no macaroni salad this time. Lucille's BBQ Spinach Dip and Peanut Coleslaw.

So what's the over/under on my arrival?

Doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy you're going to show up at all.
Leaving momentarily, with a quick stop at TJ's in Whittier on the way.

Thank you lost and your lovely wife for hosting this. It was nice to meet the out of towners and drink a bunch of Spanish wines.

My WOTN was Scotts '01 grand reserva. A close 2nd was kyles corked Prioriat. ;)

Edit: Candace really liked the Campesino Rose and a runner up was the 1+1=3 Cava that I think Mark brought.

Thanks for hosting, you two! Excellent as always!

Kyle's corked wine actually was remarkably inoffensive around 10pm when Ron tried it.

Lost and his lovely wife are wonderful hosts. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this a memorable trip for us. Lots of really nice wines, great food, great conversation, a rather strange card game that was somehow perfect for the occasion.
Try tiger asked for a recipe, and I promised to post it when I got home, so here it is:
For 2 salmon filets, 3 Tbs. dark brown sugar, 1 Tbs. soy sauce, 4 tsp. Chinese hot mustard. Whisk together, and reserve 1 Tbs. of the mixture. Spread glaze over salmon and grill for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on thickness, turn over and grill for 1 minute, turn again and peel off skin, baste with glaze and turn over to finish, another 5 minutes or so. Stir 1 tsp. rice vinegar with the reserved glaze, drizzle over salmon and serve. If you like the crispy salmon skin, leave out the step where you remove it. Bon appétit!

Great job hosting Lost + 1 Great time! It was my pleasure finally meeting D and B and thank you for posting the recipe. Last but not least it was great to finally meet CJ, whose saintly palate understands as I do that Petite Syrah is the work of the devil.

Great to see everyone again but Kyle you're still a pain in the a, Klez you still have the palate of a Yak, Cortot learn how to cook a steak and make your beautiful wife happy!

Plenty of really good wines and thanks to Sparky for bringing that 74/77? LDH Fun wine to try.

I can cook a damn steak buddy!
And I agree on sparkys bottle, that was really interesting bottle to try. Really nice nose and was quite surprised by how it was doing at 40+ years old.

Did anyone put a bottle list together or get a set of pics?

Yup, agree with above; Thanks to Lost & SWMBO for hosting, and Merbill for putting up with me before and after.
LA -> SD traffic is amazing @~05:30, except for a bit of roadwork on the 5 that had three lanes closed off, still made great time and safely home, after a couple hours at work on the way.
