Since this gathering's purpose is to taste test our tour blend, I suggest the wine theme should be red blends.

Wine trades I'm involved with:

Klez, bring the 2 Patricia Green Beserkers for me, I have 2 Halcons for you. No cash required.

Sparky, bring the 2 Scott Harvey's: Early Burgundy and Cab Sauv.

Cortot: Your mule is bringing the Inspirations, the Zeppelins, and the Wine club purchases (8 bottles total). I'm giving him 3 SH Mountain Zins. I've paid the difference already, so we're even.

You all will be coming up Brooklyn Ave, but I'm a corner house and there's more parking if you turn onto 2nd St (some GPS's call it Los Angeles St).

Wine trading area is in the breakfast nook. Put your well-marked boxes there.

On our way fashionably late. Oh yeah.

And those who would have bet on a late arrival for me would have lost. 3:35 pm, about 1.5 hours to next arrivals!

Everybody who's coming is here now. Going through the rat bottles and decanting the woot blend. Samples indicate it needs time to air out.

I won the blind tasting with a 2004 Rioja.

Most everybody is playing Cards Against Humanity now.

Except SWMBO, who is kicking ass at ping pong. She needs to drink more.

Wines tasted last night (at least those we can talk about):

2010 Miner La Diligence Napa Valley Syrah - up now
2013 Hawley Viognier (up last week)
2013 Iron Horse UnOaked Chardonnay Green Valley RRV (MdS)
2011 Bray Barbera Shenandoah Valley (MdS's nephew)
2006 Peter Lehman Barossa Shiraz (time2testit)
2010 Iron Horse Classic Brut Sparkling RRV (CJ via MdS's locker)

Plus 2 more whites, and 2 more reds.

2007 Ty Caton PS Port (zTimBz)
2005 Used Automobile Parts Dessert Wine (MdS)
2006 Scott Harvey Forte (MdS)

Blind Tasting (paper out in car on middle bottles - will update tomorrow):

5th: 2005 Meeker Kiss Ridge Cab (MdS)
4th: 2012 Scott Harvey Barbera (java?)
3rd: 2011 Bennesse Black Glass Estate Vineyard Zinfandel (lost?)
2nd: 2010 Cabot Humboldt County Syrah (klezman)
1st: 2004 Muriel Reserva Rioja (merbill)

Plus as merbill spilled, the tour blend was tasted all evening, from decanters, and one from the bottle (opened at same time as others, but left open in the bottle). Nom, nom, nom!

Spilled? It was the woot blend premier party. Did ya think we were just going to admire the label?

In other news, the Barbera was pretty good, the IH brut disappeared in a flash, the Forte was relatively old - '05 or '06, I think (all the dessert wines were terrific. The Forte might have been finished and not "walked off"), the rat bottles were mostly better than decent, and the woot blend, given enough time, is something we can all be proud of. Something we could revel in, so to speak.

Wooters are wonderful people and we all had a great time. Cards Against Humanity is fun - first time I played it. Ping pong was played, football was watched (USC!), and maybe a little wine was consumed. Looking forward to the next time.

We killed the Forte at the gathering, but I like the shape of the bottles (except for wine fridge purposes -- then we hate those suckers) so I'm the guilty one in possession of the sadly empty vessel... didn't realize it would cause such a stir!

And it was an '06.

Sparky, please let nephew know the 2011 Bray Barbera was just as excellent yesterday as at the GTG! He has good taste in wine!

Think he's interested in a bi-coastal relationship?

Merbill --sincere thanks to you and SWMBO for your hospitality! What a wonderful evening!

Thank you, SoCal'ers, for including a wee, NoVA girl in your Revelry! I will be in town a bunch over the next year or two. Hopefully my schedule will coincide with future events. I promise I'll even get a FasTrak thingie.

Special thank-yous to MdS for allowing me access to the Holy of Holys! Awesome!

It was wonderful to see old friends from last year's tour and meet new ones (losthighways +1 and MdS Nephew). While I may not make Nov, I'll be in town in March ... April ... June ... July...

His wife would protest, methinks.

And since I was the one who steered them to Bray, you're welcome. I might even share one of the 3 ports they make!
