My wife pronounces "Garage" as "Garurrrrrrge", which she insists is correct.

She's amazing in every other way, though.

I had agreed to help a lady with the brakes on her car and she kept talking about needing a new 'caliber'. I was trying to be subtle in correcting it as 'caliper' and she just didn't get it.

I have a friend that always did things "a while back ago".

He has since stopped after years of correction.

Only read through the first page, so sorry if this was already brought up. Yet 'atm machine' has always driven me crazy.

Also, I agree with the incorrect use of 'literally' as well as the lazy use of 'axed' instead of 'asked'. 'Axed' seems to be a plague in WA.

One thing I've always struggled with though is the difference between 'affect' and 'effect' >.<

I had a boss who regularly used the phrase combination "here's the thing is" to bring a conversation around to his point. I didn't have the heart to tell him to pick one expression or the other.

Kroger. Not Krogers. As in, I shop at Kroger. You wouldn't say, I shop at IGAs or Safeways or Walmarts.

I hear Walmarts all the time.

The only one I can think of right now that hasn't been mentioned is coupon as coupe-in.

I heard Percy Sledge say Ladies and Gentlemens twice tonight. It was during a concert on TV. I have heard others add "s" to gentlemen as well.

Ron White?

I can't tell you how many face-palm moments I have whenever I hear 'The OC'. It's not The Orange County. It's just Orange County. It wouldn't be so bad if that damnable show didn't popularize it.

Also, how do you feel about 'sneaked' vs 'snuck'? I'm an ol'e fashioned sneaked girl myself. To my ears, 'snuck' is about as nails on the chalkboard as 'ain't'.

Yep! That's him.

Wouldn't you say 'I snuck into the movie' rather than 'I sneaked into the movie'?

Thought so XD I love that he referenced Tater Tot even in his later shows.

I guess it depends on the generation you were raised with. For a long spell of time, 'sneaked' was the more accepted form. With time though, 'snuck' became more popular, and it just stuck. I guess it's because I was raised in a househole that used 'sneaked' all the time that I grew so used to it.
