I wonder what # we are on brother in laws list this year?
The Honda was wonderful. Very little noise. Next door neighbor didn't know we had it and it was only 25 feet from his house.

Somewhere we do have a kerosene heater for the house. We bought it when we got the house. I have no clue where to get kerosene.

Son is back in Buffalo. One off the radar!

I saw kerosene @ Home depot and
Lowes when I was there on the weekend.

jqubed wrote:Congratulations? What's FIRST VISTA?

I can't believe it's been 4 years! How old are the bigger ones now?!

FIRST is the non-profit I am assigned to (even though I work with 4-H locally - on paper my job is confusing). We do the fun robotics stuff and LEGO!

VISTA is a branch of AmeriCorp which is sorta like the domestic Peace Corp. VISTA stands for Volunteer In Service To America and we are the foot soldiers in the war on poverty. Each VISTA gives one year of service to help a program that seeks to alleviate or eliminate poverty in some way. My program with FIRST works to get young people involved in STEM, staying in school, getting better grades, feeling better about themselves, and going to college (all of which has been shown in independent studies). Other VISTAs work with getting people signed up for health insurance, running social programs, or urban garden/local food projects. There are a large variety of roles.

While at our assignment, we don't do direct service, but rather build the capacity of our organization to more effectively help and reach their target group. We train volunteers, build awareness, analyze needs, and seek out funding.

That's sorta the generic rundown.

Ver1 just turned 9 in Dec. Ver2 is 6.5 years old.

Good morning everybody! It was 19 at the beach and 0 in the mountains last night. People at the beach are freaking out over the temps. lol Glad to be at the beach.

Sun is shinning and we have the passive solar thing going on. The living area is much warmer than the bedrooms. We had a house in the mountains that had such good passive solar that the temp inside would go up 10* as soon as the sun came up. Had an overhang so no problem in the summer with the temps rising. It was great. Sold the house.

Stay warm friends. Going to fix breakfast burritos.

There is a strong wind and cold temps here. Somehow it isn't that bad out. It could very well be the strong sun.

Of course, I haven't taken Rusty for a walk, I might find it colder if I do. Not that bad going to and from the car.

I drove for the first time today and made three stops. Couldn't wait to get home and get ice on my wrist. It had been feeling a lot better. I think it was getting the seat belt fastened that hurt the most.

I sent son up to Buffalo with a sleeping bag, fleece pants, a little food and a strong garden shovel in his trunk.

He scoffed at me.

He just admitted, he needed the shovel!

He was thinking about a folding shovel.
Yeah, that would work on heavy snow.

When it gets nice out, I might go get the shovel I found near a little pond near here. It was old and rusty, but it was an old garden shovel. I don't think there is any way to kill one of those.

Daughter is almost done with outpatient.

Her fiancee just showed up (we knew he was coming) to test the water. See if they are ok together.

If they are, I don't have to spend weeks in DC without the dog!

Their cat was happy to see him, but hissed at him after just a few minutes.

Dilemma (not serious) I need to do some LEGO builds for work. In the past I've loaded up Hulu and caught up on Once Upon a Time, Castle and the like, but you all say Castle will make me cry and the other shows aren't online yet.
1) Should I just load Castle and build anyway.
2) Load the blu-rays of Sherlock Orcrist got me even though they may be too distracting (need to pay more attention).
3) Load something I've seen before.

Good morning everybody!

D'name, hope things work out!

The access door to the crawl space under kitchen at the mountain house was open so the hot water side froze. Daughter crawled under there and thawed it out with a hair dryer. I was very proud of her! She made sure the door was shut! I think the outside cats play under there. It has been 20 years since the temps have been that low.

Warmer by the weekend!
