Lot 385 Cameron Hughes Napa Cabernet 2011.

Cameron says this is actually Stag's Leap juice that was sold as Napa. It's from a new winery on the Silverado Trail that decided to wait until 2012 to debut due to the uneven 2011 vintage.

Regardless, this is one of the best CH Cabs I've tasted. Definitely can see Stag's Leap since it reminds me of Chimney Rock & Pine Ridge.

Pretty good value at $28, but if you can get it under $25 it's an excellent value. He runs many coupons, so should be possible.

I didn't like his chard or this bottle. IIRC, you had one of these and didn't like it, either.

I've liked his wines, including the zin from tonight. But yes, that etre/chard, not so much.

I bought two WW offers: 1) 08 Zin from 01/03/2012 and 2) 07 Syrah 3-pack from 01/20/2012. Found them all to be solid wines. Perhaps it's time for a return appearance, though the last time I checked on his wines the pricing had gone up. Also found some of these at my local Whole Foods back in the summer and they were signed by Jeff. Seems he made a trip through Chicago promoting his wines.

I liked it as it wasn't a fruit bomb zin. I like his wines, partly because he was one of the first wines I bought off wine.woot a long time ago, and I remember his participation. His wine was also the first lab rat bottle back when that program had first started.

2003 Sempre Vive Cabernet. Drinking very well right now. Delicious black currant, some dark red fruit, smooth tannins. At $20 a bottle from TSO, this drinks well above its price. If you got in on the recent offers, you will be glad that you did.

From CT: Disappointing wine for me. Chocolate and berries on the nose and palate. Nice mouthfeel, but no finish, a little hot, and it kind of falls apart after three hours. I think the wine making skills are there, but the fruit just ins't for this vintage.

I also remember the oak being really heavy-handed. It was a weird wine, for me.

Wow, that is a mighty fine wine! It is my benchmark wine for Rioja, I have tried many and haven't yet found one as good as this, it drinks well above its price IMO. This wine reminds me of a nice Bordeaux with a little more oak than you find in a Bordeaux and that nice flavor you find in a well aged wine, all dark and complex and a little leather. When you want something special at a great price this is the one.

My dogs like me, that is important.

In the past week;
2007 Renwood Viognier
2006 WineSmith Cabernet Sauvignon (Lodi)
2008 Trump Winery Blanc de Blancs
2007 WineSmith Pinot Noir PennyFarthing
2010 Pacific Rim Winemaker's Riesling

...along with dozens of Virginia wines tasted at 14 different wineries over 4 days. Great Viogniers, very good Chards and Cab Francs, quality sparklers at Trump, good Rosés and Meritage blends, and one kick-ass 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from a boutique winery that will unfortunately be ripping out its Cab Sauv vines because they only get a vintage like that every 6-7 years. I also got to try a Petit Manseng for the first time.
