scottmcj wrote:Do note, however, that the Soiree is made of thin glass requiring careful handling and its own cabinet -- or own house -- for storage.

My family is 0 for the 3 I purchased in the last woot. My father broke his before he even got it to the first bottle. My sister broke hers but is not fessing up to how. I treated mine with kid gloves and it lasted over a year, but then I tapped it accidentally with a bottle of wine preserver (irony!) and it shattered. Must have had just the wrong angle, because the canister is light as a feather.

That being said, if you have a special cabinet or somewhere away from everything else to keep it -- it is a great product. Beautiful to watch in action and personally I liked the resulting wine better the aeration provided by the acrylic competitor; it seemed less disruptive to the wine.

Scott,

Sorry to hear you went 0/3 on the Soiree. You know what they say about the rules of 3. But as mentioned above, it is Borosilicate glass, so it is stronger than most, and I find that I have broken far more wine glasses in my days, than I have Soiree, and believe me I touch a Soiree daily.

Never the less, in regards to your dad's, you should contact us and we'll get you a replacement. As for your sister's, won't ask & yours we'll see...

And you are correct, and I agree (although biased of course)that injection-style wine aeration is too much for most wines. I recently met with the owner of O'brien Estate in Napa Valley who had a great analogy, where he said he feels injection style aeration, "turns the wine into Confetti." Whilst the Soiree heightens the, "layers and depth of the wine," without disrupting it. O'brien estate has only ever sold one style of aerator - Soiree.

Thanks for commenting! & hope to hear from you soon. info(at)winesoiree

I would and have recommended this to many friends/family. It is very easy to use, especially compared to many others I have seen out there. The aerator cleans very quickly and the stand is perfect for drying storage.

You won't regret if you buy in my opinion.

Cheers & Thanks!

blackIria wrote:Stick with the acrylic. This thing is extremely *dangerous*.

I had this aerator and bought it off Amazon, though not with a special set but just the aerator for red wine (the big one).

The golden glass rim where it lets the wine out, is weaker and/or thinner than that of regular glass Hanukkah-bush ornaments.

Mine broke in such a dangerous and unnoticeable way that I would never, ever tell anyone to try these. Basically what happened was, after installing the aerator in the bottle, and this was probably the 4th or 5th time I was using it- after I poured, I went to set the bottle on my table, and shock of the bottom of the bottle touching down on a hard table, while still careful and not with any exaggerated force-- was strong enough to crack and chip the top opening of the aerator.

This however went unnoticed, because the chip went INSIDE the bottle- it was not until I was pouring the final glass that I saw a gold flake come through the wine and settle at the bottom of the wine glass-- I swooshed it around and found that it was a thin piece of glass from the aerator!!

Having said all this- I noticed the aerator said on it that it was hand crafted- so experiences may vary and it could have been my particular one.

**But I know that I pour wine for a lot of folks I care a great deal about and for me personally it is nowhere worth the risk to change from acrylic to this glass ornament style.**

For those whom already purchased this, my recommendation would be to check the rim of the aerator after EVERY pour, and every time you set the bottle down, no matter how softly.

PS: I instead use this well-reviewed acrylic aerator from Amazon and while I notice a difference between aerated and non-aerated wine, I do not notice a difference between this acrylic aerator and the Soiree I had.

Sorry to hear of that experience, it is scary to hear and glad that you caught it.

Soiree is mouth-blown into a mold and then finished by hand. They should be durable and only deliver excellence.

While acrylic is easy and steady, we just cannot offer a product in a material that is not designed for proper wine enjoyment. I hope we have a chance to win back your business one day soon.

For those who have not used this - it’s a mix of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. The carbon dioxide, being heavier than air, forms a layer over the wine (upright bottle) and stops the oxygen getting to the wine. So simple and work like a charm.
I gave my partially used can to a friend and just bought a new one today. Hope Woot will offer it one of these days.

If I may add in a few notes of correction. Gas preservers work because they have inert gas inside the canister. Inert gases by nature are heavier than oxygen, and therefore when sprayed into a wine bottle (or any item you want to preserve) will create a buffer zone that keeps oxygen from spoiling what is below.

IMHO: the best brand is called Vineryard Fresh, as it is the only 100% Argon gas preserver, argon being the perfect inert gas for food preservation. CO2 should not be in the mix, and there are some brands that dilute their canisters, just a note.

Would you be so kind as to share the name of the product and maybe where it can be bought and what a good price for it is?

The think I like about the vacutainer, is the fact that I will often have a single glass on wine at a time and my SO doesn't drink, so sadly I'm often drinking alone (No, I don't need AA, unless I can skip to step 13 ;)) So being able to pour one glass and re-vacuum is great. But I can definitely see times when a longer term solution would be very useful.

We wooters have a good eye for these things ;)

I am going to jump on this offer, assuming it's not already sold out. Not so much because I think this is a great deal or desperately need an aerator, but because I'm interested in doing my own taste testing and really appreciate @winesoiree 's participation and that's what sold me

I would argue the inert gas Helium is not heavier than Oxygen...

And a bottle fully backfilled with Nitrogen seems highly effective, in my experience, and is less costly than Argon.

Hi all,

The winery dropped me an email yesterday indicating there was a slight delay on these but they are expected to ship by the end of the week. I know that seems like an eternity when you're waiting for liquid yumminess but most of you know us and how we provide the good stuff. Anyway, just wanted to let you know we are aware of it and that we apologize for this taking a bit longer than normal to get to you. As always, we very much appreciate your patience!

3.5 weeks and it still hasn't shipped. That must be a new record. Once it does ship, it still has to go on the snails back via smart post, which adds another 1-1.5 weeks to the order.

I don't need mine as decanting a wine works perfectly well, I just think this is nuts to have a non wine item take so long to ship out.

Even the international wines offered on Woot have been shipped quicker than this.

sellout.com has a wine aerator available as part of much cheaper package deal. If it's not made of plastic I'm going to cancel my order for this item and hope the sellout.com supplier isn't so slow.

I tried to cancel about a week ago after ordering this. They said no.

Guess I'm going to get to test for myself if acrylic vs. glass makes a difference.

Really. Well a lot of good that "cancel" button does. It has been nearly a month since this item went on sale.

I am in it for the long haul, but the chance of ordering from wine soirée is slim.

The process is complicated. The shipping information is sent early on to the vendor. This can either be done electronically or as labels depending the vendor. To cancel an order once it's processed often means hand searching through labels to find it. That's just not a feasible tasks when you're looking at hundreds or thousands of orders.

Thanks for your understanding. We'll keep working to get things done better and faster.

After searching several web sites I found the product on sellout was/is plastic. I decided to cancel my order for the Soiree product anyway. Poor service and then telling us they'd ship by end of last week. Everyone remember the name Soiree and not to buy again from them.

And still waiting. I e-mailed woot service about the order. I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting on this. Kinda pisses me off that I bought the Houdini set as a gift and already received it and my aerator I bought almost a month ago still hasn't even shipped...

More than 4 weeks now. ZERO communication.

People wonder why I tour guide about Amazon so much. At least when you order from amazon.com you get good email communication. Cancel buttons work. They have live chat support.

Woot, the red headed bastard step daughter, can't even put tracking #'s in emails anymore.

Why do I have to come back here to see that, well, garbage has been spoon fed. A simple email, say once a week, stating the reason for the delay, or even that there is a delay, is the minimum we should expect.

FedEx shows it as scheduled for delivery on Sat. I'll believe it if I see it..

Ridiculous. Not the customer service I expect from Woot. Ordered on the 21st (of June) to be delivered for a relative's birthday on the 7th. Contacted woot on the 29th and was told:
"Wine.Woot orders typically take 2-3 weeks to be delivered, but often sooner. You will be provided tracking once a shipping label is created. Tracking will pick up once it ships out."

On the 12th contacted again. Response:
"Your order has recently shipped. It can take 24-72 hours for FedEx to post a tracking scan."

Never received another email to clarify exactly when "recently" was or a tracking number so I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company.

I suggest you all do the same.

Last time I ever do business with Woot.

After e-mailing support on the 18th, I got an e-mail from them on the 19th with a Fedex tracking number that shows activity. Here's hoping I finally get my order. This definitely took longer than it should have and is not indicative of previous woot experiences. I hope it's the last time I have a bad experience.

I will forward this to our contacts at woot. But I can promise you that we have done everything we can to meet the order QTY that they provided us.

Hummm... let me see. "The winery dropped me an email..." and "... liquid yumminess ...".

We're not talking about a wine shipment here. This seems to be one of those barely relevant form letters that I'd expect to receive from a company like Dell.
